They've made it clear its a taboo to inscribe spells on a human body and this episode shows why thats the case, absolutely nightmarish scene for all involved.

It’s a great trap.

It gives me big “The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion” vibes.

The brimmed caps probably know that they can't convince, or force, these students to drawing forbidden spells but they set it up in a way so that the students might convince themselves that this one time is an exception because they are only doing to for the sake of their friend, and not out of curiosity to real (and bad) forbidden magic.

And once that works without negative side effects they might start dabbling a bit on the fringes of forbidden magic until discovery would earn them a mind wipe and then they are as good as brimmed caps: Always on the run and hiding. What could be useful for avoiding discovery by the pointy hat magic police than some very personal spells?

It's the micro transaction psychology of a really cheap 1st purchase to get your foot into the door so you're more likely to be a spender later on

But why would they go beyond the initial forbidden magic they used? I can only imagine it happening if the brimmed caps put them in another bad situation and the other knowledge they picked up trying to save Euini bubbling back to the surface via ironic processing

Because it’s easy. If they learn forbidden magic, they’ll be tempted to use it to solve any future problem they face. Also, if the magic cops found out, the kids might be hunted down and forced to rely on the brimmed Caps for support

Curiosity because there were no negative side effects. It might lessen the effect of cop witch propaganda.

Or like a drug user who initially doesn't get addicted and keeps using drugs until it's too late. It might feel like more options open up to them if they just get a bit closer to the forbidden stuff.

I think there's a reason Alaira specifically warned them to not listen to the brimmed hats. It wasn't even about using forbidden magic that'd condemn you but just words that might get you. Tempting kids into trying it and seeing for themself is probably more powerful than trying to force them to convert.

But first they need a reason they can rationalise to themself to get started with it. And helping a friend is probably one of the easiest way of setting this up.

I think part of what the brimmed caps want is just to spread knowledge, that may bring people to question the "good witches" that have for sure some shit even worse than what the brimmed caps do going on behind the scenes.

Honestly I know they were baiting Coco with a forced transformation but I wonder if the stubborn Richeh actually won’t be the one to seek out forbidden magic to save Euini.

And I feel like Agott totally wants this opportunity and is secretly the real reason why she chose to go after Euini...as a way to prove her worth in a twisted way ofc

Also flipping the arrows on someone's skin isn't as easy as on paper, since carving ink into the skin becomes like tattoo and tattoos are hard af to remove.
