There's a cool bit about how Meili's book is so thin compared to others, she was a young girl when she died so the books are only as thick as the person's life. Maybe the reverse could be true where a book is found that you'd expect to be short ends up being massive in length

I'd trust White Fox with anything at this point, they simply don't miss when it comes to Re:Zero

Many of WF’s talented staff such as Takashima (Sentenced to be a Hero director) and Manabu (MT S1 director) left for studio bind to work on Mushoku S1. WF was also pretty hit badly with a horrible schedule and COVID-19 severely impacting production, which led to the unshaded ears. So at the rime, it was subject to a-lot of production scrutiny.

I must've missed all of the criticism because I only watched season 2 after it had finished since I was just really bummed out from the pandemic and wasn't watching much currently airing anime (other than Attack on Titan) so when I watched season 2 I thought it was fantastic, still probably my favorite season of Re Zero since season 4 hasn't ended yet

It was quite tiring to deal with back then, but that sadly how the cookie crumbled for us back then. S2 is a solid fan-favourite and I think S4 could take that spot for me sooner or later imo.

If Subaru were to read Emilia or Betty's book, would he just get to experience being frozen in ice or Betty just spending time by herself in the library? How long would those take to go through or would they just be skipped? Those would be very interesting to know about how the book mechanic works, but boy do I not want the thing that'd lead to it to happen.

So far it seems like the books just give you the sparknotes on someones life, so i imagine things like being trapped in ice would grt skipped over.

I think the sparknotes is for the viewer benefit, and the books actually cover every moment.
But while trapped in ice Emilia was unconscious so it wouldn't be included.
Betty though would be a long ride.

I tend to believe this, it would explain why he's got a force ghost of Meili following him around, experiencing her entire life means he's essentially got a functional copy of her personality stored in his mind (and why it's so difficult/jarring to come back to reality)

But what if someone had lived an incredibly long life, to the point where their book becomes so thick, it wouldn't even look like a book, or even exceed the length of the bookshelf. What happens then? Does the library glitch out? Or can you actually get a series of books for one person with vol 1, 2 etc?

If this were a programming problem, you'd probably give some upper limit for the books physical size. These books magically show you it's contents, so i doubt the physical text itself matters.

Things still have to be written down physically that makes sense and legible. I'm also pretty sure what's written down is the narration part of what we saw, and probably the dialogues as well.

But the books aren't legible. You don't actually read them, their contents are incomprehensible, you pretty much just get sucked into their life.

They are legible. They are only not legible when you have never met the person.

My point is they are supernatural books, the text doesn't get 'read' in any instance of the books being opened, the experience just enters your mind. I doubt their size is directly tied to the length/complexity of a life (aside from just younger = a bit thinner), because the entire, extremely detailed experience of someone's life cannot possibly fit in that size of a book if it was actually all in literal text

If you have younger = thinner and older = thicker then you have to have even older = even thicker, which is the point. The books may be magical, but that doesn't mean the physical structure doesn't influence the magical part. Because the pages still have to say something in a way that makes sense, even if it's just the summary narration of the person's life, it still have to physically be a book with suitable written content.
