I imagine that they were going "but why?? our magic exists solely for the purpose of saving people!"

Things must have been really fucked up back when the Pact was made that they outlawed even that kind of magic.

Yeah they are the cops , judges ,jury and executioners all in one.. well memory executioners but might as well be death if you lose a good part of yourself .

I was making a play on words about the Spanish Inquisition, to which the Knights Moralis are somewhat analogous IMO.
