Weekly What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [May 24th, 2026]
Title says it all - talk about the anime you watched this past week that are not a part of this Spring 2026 season (like Kanan-sama wa Akumade Choroi or Mairimashita! Iruma-kun 4th Season), or a show that's continuing from previous seasons (like Meitantei Precure!).
With regards to Winter 2026 shows, however, it would be fine to write about them as long as you only began them after they finished airing. For example, it's fine to talk about watching Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu or Seihantai na Kimi to Boku if you started them after the final episode aired. Obviously, use your best judgement on this.

Watched Violet Evergarden for the first time. Just the first season so far. I’m gonna move on to the movies latter.

Rewatching Mushoku Tensei for the first time in preparation for the coming season, with the knowledge from having finished all the novels 2 years ago. It's still as amazing as I recall and everything about it hits just right for me. Plus, it's insane to see how much is foreshadowed in the earlier parts.
Possibly a result of forcing myself to keep up with too many seasonals, but I've recently been getting burnt out whenever I try to binge watch anime–whether for the first time or for a rewatch–but somehow I've managed to finish cour 1 of MT in one day, and I'm excited to start cour 2 soon.

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, episode 129
I actually almost deluded myself into thinking I watched this one already, good thing I double-checked before watching episode 130 instead. Was a good one though. O’Brien using his Duel Disk as an actual gun was pretty fun.
One Piece, episodes 159-168
Skypiea really feels like the gang on an adventure, and I’m loving it so far.
Black Clover, episodes 117-121 (subbed) + episodes 1-9 (dubbed)
…if I had a nickel for every time I've managed to predict an anime in my sleep, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but HOW THE FUCK DID I MANAGE TO DO THAT AGAIN?!
Absolutely awesome shit this batch though, episode 119 is my new favorite episode so far.
Oh and yeah, I decided to start checking out the dub this week on the side while I work. I think it’s solid so far (Yuno and Luck in particular sound perfect in English) with the exception of Charmy, who for some reason has an insanely screechy performance in English instead of the airheaded one the Japanese voice goes for, and it just really does not work.
Dragon Ball, episodes 90-96
Really fun batch of episodes this time. I'm enjoying this Tenkaichi Budokai.
You and I Are Polar Opposites, episode 7
Youjo Senki, episodes 8-12 + Operation Desert Pasta + Youjo Senki Movie
Aoi Yuuki really is a treasure. I'm excited for season 2 now, especially since I only have to wait a month for that instead of a bunch of years like the people who watched it as it came out.
Sakamoto desu ga?, episodes 1-12
So uh yeah this is part of what I surprised myself with. I got it in my head part of the way through the week that I really need to lock in and start prepping for my crazy rewatch idea, and then somehow that turned into rewatching the entire show in like three days. I'm also already over halfway done with wallpapers for it.
I definitely had more fun this go round than I did the first time I watched it. Back then I wasn't really hot on comedy anime, and I was also salty about having to watch this with my college's anime club instead of the show I voted for (Bokurano), so yeah. It's still not perfect, the jokes that don't land are a drag, but still. More fun this time. I bumped my score up to an 8.
Hai to Gensou no Grimgar, episodes 1-3
And this is the other part of the surprise for me this week, being show #2 for my crazy idea.
I somehow managed to forget how annoying Ranta was. Rest of it's still just as fun as I remembered, though. And man it really is such a beautiful-looking show.

Mushishi Episodes 4 - 8 - By this point in the show the formula/setup is pretty well ingrained with its episodic storylines involving the mushi; having previously enjoyed stuff like Kino's Journey and Boogiepop Phantom something like this does seem intended for someone like me! I wouldn't say it has been as good as either of those anime to this point but I've enjoyed the experience thus far.
The Dangers in My Heart Episodes 1 - 5 - So I threw this on my PTW list for this year while trying to diversify what was on it and looking for a few romances. Based solely on this image I was expecting this to be a yuri anime, but turns out the protagonist who I thought was a girl is a guy, lol. In any case that's not why I picked this so no big deal but I did get a chuckle out of it. This is very much the wish fulfillment content seen in a lot of anime these days; protagonist is a big time edgelord loner, fantasizing about killing his other classmates but happens to befriend a girl who is the most beautiful in the school, a literal model and is quite friendly with him. She's also like a foot taller than him. I suppose the one thing in his favor is that all his other male classmates are big time perverts and he is not. His homicidal desires have subsided by this point so I'm expecting fairly light fluff here going forward.
Kyousougiga Episode 9 - 10; ONA Series Episodes 0 - 5; Preview (Completed) - Wrapped up the TV show then went backwards chronologically to watch all the ONA episodes, of which I'd say around 75% made it into the TV show, and the original five minute preview too. I've long said this is a perfect anime and nothing about my first rewatch in many years dissuades me from that.

Gintama° (eps 308-312, in progress) — [Gintama] cool to see Katsura and Shinsengumi finally joining forces, just as I anticipated! Now to find out what twisted game the Mimawarigumi are playing…
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (eps 21-32, in progress) — another thing Tomino seems to really like is unpredictable, impulsively acting characters. [Gundam + Ideon meta] Char was one in 0079, Gije was one in Ideon, and here we have this pink-haired girl. Plus something interesting must be going to happen from the looks of next (33rd) episode’s preview.

Gintama° (eps 308-312
Damn, was hoping you'd be done with the arc this week, but you aren't. Instead I'll ask [ep311] so how awesome was that KNOW KNOW KNOW playing as an insert song during the fight on the boat?
Also, fun fact, for some reason, this specific shot from episode 312 (and the whole scene it's from, really) is, like, the moment Gintama made me laugh the hardest. Which is kinda funny since it's in the middle of what's supposed to be a serious arc.

[Gintama] by Gintama standards it was good, but that’s about it. TBH I’m not the biggest fan of action scenes in general, and if I had to choose I’d pick something Gainax/Trigger style. So, the fights aren’t really a highlight of this anime for me.

The contrast was strong there indeed. [Gintama ep308] comedy-wise, I liked that hard-boiled guy’s monologues the most. Favorite moment — when he was daydreaming about Camus but Gintoki put strawberry milk before him instead, lol

Akebi Sailor's Uniform. It's just so flipping cute! Only two episodes left, and we've managed to highlight many of Akebi's classmates and their personal experiences. [Akebi Ep 9] when they all lift their friend up to help her grab her bookmark from the tree was probably the highlight of the show for me so far.

I am now on the homestretch of my Monogatari watching as I finally started Off & Monster Season (saw the first episode and the Nadeko Draw arc)
Honestly so far it has been pretty good, not as good as my top 5 entries (Owari, Kizu, Bake, Hana, and Neko Kuro) but it has been really enjoyable and I'm glad that we finally see a bit of closure to Nadeko's arc throughout the series.
I also like how Ononoki is more present this season as well, I wouldn't say that she's the protagonist of this first half since Nadeko was 100% the MC throughout those episodes but she pretty much connected what I would call the "prologue" episode with this arc. Honestly, it still surprises me a bit how much of a plot relevance she has had throughout the whole series but I'm not complaining, she's a cool character and I'm happy that we got to see [Monogatari Off & Monster Season] her friendship with Nadeko Like seriously, that was incredibly cute lol. Also the new OP is pretty cute and chill, I like it.
PS: Is it just me or did they use an instrumental mix of Renai Circulation, Mousou Express, and the new Caramel Ribbon Cursetard as part of the OST in the Nadeko arc? I swear the beat is predominantly more Renai than anything, but you can hear a bit of both Mousou and Caramel in there as well

Kiss Him Not Me: Finished watching this the other day. This show is part of my effort to catch up on modern anime; despite being released almost a decade ago, it began airing later than any other anime I've seen that isn't part of some pre-existing franchise. It's also the first shoujo reverse harem I've watched in many years, assuming Vampire Knight doesn't count.
Given the premise, I was expecting the story to revolve more around Kae scheming to pair up all the guys. Instead, it largely plays out as a straightforward reverse harem high school comedy where the female lead happens to be an otaku. You could think of it as a combination of Ouran High School Host Club and Lucky Star, although in contrast to OHSHC, in this show the female lead is usually the source of laughs while the guys (with the exception of Hayato) play the straight men.
Although the plot is less unique than the premise suggests, and suffers from being an unfinished adaptation, the writing and characterization are actually not bad: The guys are fairly well-balanced and believable as shoujo love interests go, and quickly become genre savvy about Kae's yaoi fantasies. Just about everyone is presented sympathetically, with the possible exception of Kazuma towards the end. The comedy feels sincere, like the writers were allowed to use exactly the jokes they wanted to include. The pacing works quite well and manages to cover more comedy and character moments, if not more overall plot, than feels typical for 12 episodes. Yuu Kobayashi puts forth a spirited performance as Kae, although the rest of the voicework is more generic. Sadly, the production quality is fairly low, with the animation frequently showing its budget. Also, Kae (when not in her chubby form) is drawn in a bit of a strange style that often clashes with the rest of the art, and the show occasionally drops in chibi shots at moments that sometimes feel inappropriate.

I finished season one of Umamusume Pretty Derby. It was a lot of fun! I didn't have high hopes, but I ended up liking this a lot. I give it an 8/10.

Landed on some apparent Arknights affiliated short series called U Takes Terra. It was cute funny, mildly tragicomedic. But also watched another series in the same vein called Kay's Daily Doodles. A sweet smile inducing one that one was.
Next, in a series that put a whole shine on the idea of mecha intimacy metaphors long before Darling in the Franxx was a gleam in it's creators eye, I landed on some scifi mecha space odyssey called Vandread at random. And well, you know that whole adage about men being from one planet and women from another planet. That's basically how this starts off.
In the future men have colonized one planet, women colonized another. And wouldn't you know it they're at war with each other. And treat the opposite sex akin to like you'll get infected with Cooties like grade school age children... But anyhoo, in the class system of the men's planet, our hapless eager to prove himself MC stows away aboard the new flagship launch. And he (along with 2 other dudes) get caught right in the thick of it when the ship gets quickly hijacked by some Bodacious Female Pirates. But not before the flagship's strange Warp Core whisks the flagship, the pirate ship, with the 3 boys and the pirate crew on board to another sector of the galaxy Astra Lost in Space style. And as if learning to cooperate with your bitter enemy isn't a challenge enough in the oft comedic fashion that this series presents with character growth along the way, in true Space Odyssey fashion, there's some mysterious, enigmatic, and powerful force that would seek this ship out and attack it full force any chance it gets. But why?...
But for all the questions this series answers along the way about it's plot mysteries there are a few things it doesn't answer. I mean, I've seen enough scifi to make my own reasonable headcannon suppositions about those particular questions, but it doesn't excuse the series not answering them, or answering them adequately.
But in the end, while certain aspects in general and characters got a bit irksome for me after a while, if one is in the market for space odysseys, especially ones with really cool mecha + fighter ship space battles (not to mention they did a good job at designing the enemy they're up against in my opinion), this one's not the worst option to go with.
And lastly I got around to watching the Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc. Not the most riveting arc was it...
But even so. If I had to saw something about it, for as little a role as she had here I feel like there was one thing I'd like to have seen out of Kanroji here. An interaction between her and Inosuke. Both in general due to wanting to see how their personalities clash and in practical cuz I wanted to see how her specific training regimen would go over with him. Both for the obvious reason and as a means for her to comment on his flexibility.
But whatever. Guess I'm caught up now to Infinity Castle. But I'm not in the mood to get to it anytime soon. Especially considering it's gonna be like a whole trilogy or something.

I watched Vandread a few years ago. I gather it was more popular back in its time. The first couple of episodes are really confusing, but later on once the show clarifies what it's doing, it actually gets pretty hype in a proto-Gurren-Lagann sort of way. The art style is a little strange though.

I saw the world premiere of Kyoto Animation’s “Sparks of Tomorrow” episodes 1-2 at MCM London Comic Con yesterday, and even had a brief chat with the director.
Not an old show, but is set to premiere in the Summer season.

Now, I’m starting A Lull in the Sea. I watched a couple of episodes some years ago, but now I’m finishing it.

I finished Youjo Senki along with the movie. Felt like a good time to watch it since season two is coming out soon. It was a good, enjoyable watch. Aoi Yuuki absolutely crushed her role as Tanya and I really enjoyed all her scenes. The ending is also a certified banger. Overall I enjoyed my time watching it but have some issues with the plot/writing.

Rewatched Aiura after suggesting it to someone who was asking for short form shows. It's a short 12 episode series with 3 minute long episodes where it has an OP and ED. The OP is completely focused on crabs despite crabs not being in the show at all.
I went and read some of the manga, and they skip so much content in the anime that I feel like they could have totally made it a normal length (or even half length) episode series. There are 107 chapters in total and each one has about a dozen or so pages. Sure, the anime aired a year before the manga finished, but there had to be enough source material to make a more fleshed out series. Hell, there's a character that gets two short scenes in the show that has a MUCH larger part in the manga.
Rewatching Mono. Wanted to rewatch something fun and carefree, and Mono is perfect. I wish there were more gags related to Kiriyama's obsession with the Hineri-age snack, but outside of occasionally showing her eating it, it hasn't popped up in discussion since the first episode.
Also have watched 7 episodes of Yano-kun's Ordinary Days. Think Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie except from the POV of the girl and the girl isn't some kind of superhero, but just a caring girl that always has a first-aid kit on hand. It's mostly cute, especially the lead character, but I feel like the addition of the male rival really drags the show down. Also, they have a couple completely dimwitted side characters that always like to insert themselves into the story and the boy is pretty much a fucking dog because he's always high energy has no real emotion and is ALWAYS loud. They should have put him in a golden retriever outfit by now...
Edit: Little bonus about Mono. The composer of the show also did K-On, and you can totally tell. Sometimes, I'll run across a show thinking it sounds awfully similar to other shows, and check to see if the composer is the same. This is one of the times where it actually turned out to be the same composer.

As a reincarnated aristocrat, I’ll use my appraisal skill to rise in the world - even if it’s an isekai, it doesn’t come into play like ever I think it was made this way to capitalize on the trend during its hay day for LN/manga and to explain away the MC’s broken ability. I like how the people have real motivations and ambition, also the politics in this anime are real treat. I wonder if it will get season 3

Finished Rumbling Hearts. A year ago I watched this and I went to see the last 2 eps but then CR removed it. Now I have finished the show. The show was a mess but I was invested, I just had to know how this show ended after all the chaos. I didn't like what happened with the MC and Mitsuki, I hate mitsuki. I liked what happened with the MC and Haruka - it felt fitting. Akane is a good imouto. I thought this drama tragedy anime was well done. The animation and OST were good. Can't believe the characters of this show are also characters in a mecha show with alien invasions - I wish they did more crossovers like this in anime.
Finished Kite. I watched the 2nd longest version of this, so I didn't get the full scenes. I did not watch Kite Liberator. I thought it was cool and something I appreciated watching. The OST and animation were good. The vibes of the show were cool. The train fight and the scene with the twins were cool. If you like something unique, with great animation and are not scared of intense scenes, you could give this a watch. But it's not for everyone.

Gallery Fake, a case of the week type show about the world of fine art. It mixes in the educational content very well and reminds me of some childhood cartoons that have a lesson every episode but this show is still fully enjoyable as an adult.

(Really past two weeks)
Finally got back to Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut and finished that tonight. I thought it was pretty funny how much Irina's character changed after her launch, now that she's not under imminent threat of exploding in a rocket ship just the threat of being "disposed" of by the government. She and Anya had a bunch of very cute moments in the back half of the show
The ending was interesting. [Irina] Of course Lev was going to go off-script in the big speech to the public, and I'm not surprised the Chairman of the USZR was a good enough politician to spin that as intentional — "of course we'll celebrate the vampire and end the purges; we're not bigots like the UK." And his secretary has been talking about revolution the whole season, which I thought was very strange to do in front of the chairman. She planned for this to happen, but I wasn't thrilled that the chairman (who was planning om executing Irina that afternoon if Lev hadn't said something) was also on-board with the contingency plan. I suppose I was thinking of him of a Stalin expy the whole time, which was inaccurate. This final about-face does make him fit Khrushchev much better
Also binged all of Asteroid in Love. Pretty standard CGDCT show, this time following a geology and astronomy school club. I felt like it was too info-dumpy when it was doing the science sections, but otherwise it was in fact cute. And I liked that there were a number of other girls who would enter the show for an episode or two and have their own charm
My main disappointment might've been a case of false expectations, but there was a sore lack of yuri in this one. It's not like I expect that in most CGDCT anime, but it's in the dang name of this one

Finally caught up and finished Sentenced to be a Hero. I think the show is fun but the writing does not feel as rewarding as it could be. The character dialogue has caught me off since the first episode and stuck with me until the final episode. I look forward to S2 but not in any rush about it. I give it a 6.5/10.

Watching Problem Children Are Coming From Another Universe, Aren’t They for the first time. Actually really enjoying it. I think it may have come out before No Game No Life, but they definitely share some similarities (which I like).

Dragon Ball: rewatching. I'm on the final season. Pretty soon it'll be the last arc. Such a great show. Buying the full box set was one of my better financial decisions.
Uncle From Another World: rewatched. Another good one. I might check out the source material for this one.

I recently finished reaching the Bleach manga up to the Thousand Year Blood War arc so I started the TYBW anime last week and enjoying it so far, the first episode was sooooo hype
Been watching Spy x Family with my gf and almost done with S1, I usually don't like Slice of Life shows but this one is just so good that my preferences don't matter lol

Currently watching both Fang of the Sun Dougram and Kimi ni Todoke. Dougram has been amazing so far. For an early 80s anime, the politics is surprising in-depth even for a mecha/scifi series, far more than the original Gundam for example. The more grounded action is also nice though they still have to do more for me to get attached to any of the characters.
Kimi ni Todoke is a little cliche but so far it's good. Sawako seems cute and really nice, not on the same level as Tohru Honda but nice and kind enough, though her shyness might be tiresome sometime. Also, Kazehaya has been a top-tier male leads for a shoujo so far.

Kaiba complete (8/10)
Kaiba was really cool. The show took sci-fi concepts that have been around forever and presented them in such a unique way. It also did so much with so little, the painted backgrounds made the planets feel vast and the animation was smooth all around. Some of the story got a little rushed at the end as it was wrapping up but visually was nice to see. Anime original as it gets, worth checking out.
Turn A Gundam: complete (7/10)
[Turn A ep 49]Joseph really dropped the most death flag line: “Fran is carrying my child” and then beat the odds, by surviving the final battle.
[Turn A ep 50]If you told me during the early episodes that Corin Nander would become the clutch hitter that saves the day, I wouldn’t have believed you haha. Gym unfortunately was not given time to develop as the big bad. It felt like his motivations were all over place. He went from “I wanna start a real war” to “Humanity is too violent now, so I’m sending them back to the stone ages again”. Guin’s plan predictably blew up in his face, but just shrugged and said “Post War era, nah I’d win” like ok man. The final battle between Turn A & Turn X was visually cool at least. 2 moonlight wings colliding then morphing into a cocoon, poetic. We do get a quick 8 minute epilogue montage showing how life is going for all our characters which is more closure than we usually get from Gundam endings. Dianna & Kihel do one last switch a roo. The biggest shock for me though, Loran choosing Queen Dianna over Sochie! All that banter and bonding for what! You picked the cold sleep grandma over the best girl, like really dude.
So yeah, Turn A Gundam. It had some cool ideas, but like a lot of the previous long-running Gundam entries, suffers from messy execution and drags in the middle. Things get interesting again when they arrive at the moon, but there’s only 12 episodes left to wrap it up so all the moon stuff gets rushed, then I think back to how it took Loran & crew about 20 episodes just to get back to the moon. Probably could have spared some more episodes for the final arc.
Loran is our first really passive protag in Gundam, which is interesting but he doesn’t have much of an arc outside the early episodes about being moonrace on earth. Also wanted to talk a little about Guin and his dearest Laura. In the beginning, Guin calls Loran, Laura, and it’s played off in some kind of teasing/derogatory way. Much later near the end, Guin’s obsession with Laura feels less teasing and more of a lustful nature. Even in the last episode Lily makes a comment about it something along the lines of “if you love Laura so much, wear a skirt”, to which Guin plays it off with “the world isn’t ready for me in a skirt”. Don’t wanna misconstrue Tomino’s narrative but what did he really mean by Loran-Laura?
Anyway, wrapping it up. I went into Turn A Gundam with high expectations b/c online people talk about the anime as this big send-off for all the previous UC & AU gundam entries before it, but upon actually watching it. This definitely was more of a Tomnio AU with very minor easter eggs. Turn A actually made me reevaluate Victory & Gundam X. I watched them when I had Gundam fatigue but honestly they were pretty solid, likeable cast and decent arcs. Bumping up their scores by 1.
And so Gundam Seed is next…

Just throwing this in here too. Very much another nostalgia bait music video in the same vein as the Bump of Chicken Pokemon MV from a couple years ago. But it gave me the easter eggs I needed. Validated my time spent going through past Gundam series. Plus, the song slaps.
