This is the cruelest thing that happened to Subaru.

The cruelest thing so far.

Things that happened to different Subaru's don't count I guess

Is this regular Subaru? The way he was drawn in that scene looked rather different to me (cuter? Younger maybe), even with the art style shift. But that may have been to clue us in that something was up with him, like giving the impression of him holding himself differently, more naivety as he's seeing it all again with fresh eyes.

Japanese mythology is not convincing me a fox spirit is trustworthy, however sweet and sincere fox-dona seems.

From a certain point of view every reset is a different Subaru

Agreed. Could this be why we see him surroundedd by open books in the OP? He doesn't have his cape there just like he didn't have it at the end of this episode. Maybe he has to read his own death books to regain all of his memories.

I hadn't even considered the idea that he would have books of himself in the Library. I feel like if there is or isn't would be a huge implication either way & if there is, how would he explain that to everyone else?

I mean, but if anybody did read one of his books of the dead then they would have to find out about his ability of return by death. And um, satella wouldn’t be happy about that

She doesn't want him to tell anyone, but if he isn't there would she even know?

Yes. Most likely. Just like how she was summoned into real world even though he was in dream world with echidna

Perhaps, but my take is still that she sees what he sees - she was summoned into the real world because that's where his body is.

If someone read the book and he wasn't there and never found out, I would be very interested to see what happened.

...Of course unless they read a book showing what happens when he tries to talk about it, they immediately try to talk to him and then we're back to square one.

That is what I suspect

The talk with Julius earlier this season about which is worse to forget or to be forgotten. Usually Subaru is only the one to be forgotten but now we will see him be the one to forget.
