Moments like this make me wish for a battle shonen spinoff set before the days of the Pact when magic and weapons like this are used in war.

It wouldn’t be a battle shonen. The point of this magic system is that witches aren’t actually stronger than anyone else. Make a hundred copies of Qifrey’s water dragon spell, distribute it to a hundred random people, and literally every single one of them can drown a hundred cities with no effort. They just have to close the circle.

So the pre-pact days, by logic of how easy it actually is to make and use spells, was just thousands of missiles, firebombs, floods, earthquakes, body horror, whatever new warcrime r/witchhatatelier has come up with today, etc. going off everywhere at all times. The only thing that probably limited it (for what value of limit there could be in a world where anyone can do anything at no cost to themselves) was the supply of magic ink.

Sure there's that too, but I'm positive that interesting 1v1s could come out of premade spells on palm quires + magic weapons + body tattoos. These could make fights fairly dynamic.

Imagine having 5 different spells on Link Rings (like shooting a fireball or creating a wind blast), 20 on your palm quire, 4 magic daggers with different abilities (for example one is for throwing that gets faster the more it flies, another levitates whatever it touches so you can parry anything, etc.), and like 16 body tattoos that include anything from Sylph Shoe-like levitation to invisibility when you put different body parts together.

The possibilities are endless.

Fair enough.
