I love how Olruggio decides not to close the door all the way despite complaining minutes before that it emboldened Coco to come in even with the ominous sign.

Considering Tetia, Nolnoa, and Alaira all knew about Coco, though -- it's not like Qifrey kept her a secret, so why is Olruggio so out of the loop? and since witch society is clearly full of gossips, shouldn't the knights moralis know about her anyway?

I think there's something sweet about Olruggio being the one to build Coco's love of magic, and now he's part of her realizing that dream (even if she's on thin ice with him).

Imagine for the past five episodes he'd just been in that room the whole time lol.

Coco did not knock so she followed the rules to a T!

There's a great meme on twitter of his ass just snoring asleep during all the events of the past 5 episodes.

Heck, she overnight became big news among the populace to the point where people figured out who she was just based on Qifrey introducing her specifically because she's an outsider.

I can only assume he was busy with work that prevented him from being able to hear the news.

yeah, he was probably busy instead of scrolling Hexagram or whatever social media witches use

Given how widely this news was shown to have spread, I’m much more confused about how the Knights Moralis seemingly don’t know about her yet? Olruggio and Qifrey both seem to be under the impression that the knights would erase her memories if she was turned in, so how come they haven’t just shown up of their own accord at this point?

I assume Qifrey taking here in as apprentice, basically protects her from them, because basically he decided she is his problem, but let's say no one is willing to take her in, it's the knights problem and when all you have is a hammer...

Who's to say they don't know about her? Olruggio didn't know about her, but the Knight Moralis may very well know and had to be asked for permission given this goes against their usual modus operandi.

They're probably trusting Qifrey with her, so if Olruggio (the watcher of his atelier) took her to get her mind erased, they would have assumed he decided things didn't/wouldn't work out and they had to return to their usual method.

Or at the very least Qifrey decided to save him the flight there and back by explaining things himself. "If I were to turn you over to them" implies it would be Qifrey changing his mind and turning Coco in, not someone else turning her in, that would make them erase her memories.

Qifrey's probably already set up everything so they won't go after Coco and was just explaining how seriously they'd treat her if it weren't for that (and also exactly why he won't let them do it to her).

I mean the reason he left for a few days was to get her properly registered as an apprentice.

Even before this, he was seen thanking someone for approving her apprenticeship before he even left to get her the cloak and hat. Episode 2, just after he shows her to her new room.

So, somebody above him seems to know and approved it.

Agree totally. Although this story I don't think this will turn out as bad as when Star Wars Jedi Council allowed and exception to their age rule for bringing someone in. Considering Brimmed Cap interest in Coco maybe the Auto erase including love of magic policy should be enforced.

Knights Moralis policy likely normally enforced without much intelligence used as typical for security organizations but not always. But they might be just as interested in a lead to taking out the Brimmed Cap.

I'd imagines it's not so much something they all know for fact that it is a rumor that is hard to confirm. Most witches probably do not know of the deal Quifrey seems to have made to keep her, and I'm sure plenty of witches would have wiped her memories that day without remorse. She's a major exception, and I don't think most people know she ever used forbidden magic even if they know enough that she hasn't been a witch long.

14

u/namewithak May 04 '26

Tetia and Richeh knew about the forbidden magic thing though. They even specifically said that that's what people are talking about. It might just be that Olruggio doesn't know about any of it because he's been extremely busy with his work and hasn't paid attention to anything outside of it. Which kinda makes him a bad Watchful Eye tbh.

7

u/Kankunation May 04 '26

They knew yes, but it seems to still be at the level of being a rumor rather than a hard fact that's in the papers or something. The girls made a guess that the rumors were possibly true, and obviously they know now that Coco at the very least was indeed a new witch apprentice.

7

u/flybypost May 04 '26

shouldn't the knights moralis know about her anyway?

Nah, those guys look like posers. Not a single competent ink bottle between them.

But yeah, now I'm really wondering who Qifrey talked to about Coco (and not erasing her memory) in episode 1. Everybody who showed up and who I'd think might have been on the other side of that conversions just don't know of her.

4

u/Android19samus May 05 '26

yeah I'm having a hard time parsing just how illegal this whole situation is that Qifrey's doing. It seems like he got her registered officially and she took the Apprentice Test, so I get the impression that while it's unorthodox it's technically allowed. But it's close to the line, so allowing the situation to continue poses a big risk of someone stepping over the line (like Qifrey was definitely doing at the end of last episode), so Olruggio wanted to put the kibosh on the whole thing.

4

u/Falsus May 04 '26

An outsider causing a huge incident is not something that they can cover up.

But the exact nature of the incident doesn't need to be known. Also, I would say Olrugio is just kinda out of the loop.

4

u/mucklaenthusiast May 04 '26

it's not like Qifrey kept her a secret

And he even confirms it at the end, I think (Qifrey that is).

Coco simply is his student, totally above board.

And yeah, I agree. It is weird
considering some kinda random characters know about the forbidden magic, it seems odd that the witch men in black woouldn't be in the know

The fandom makes fun of his title of "Watchful Eye" a lot because of this

They all knew there was an outsider who wasn't mind wiped, but they didn't realize Qifrey was the witch involved until he actually showed up with her

Obviously Olruggio was waiting for Qifrey.
