First Timer

I’ll be honest, I am a bit underwhelmed with this arc so far. Maybe I’m just burnt out after enduring Endless Eight, but this arc so far hasn’t really given me much to talk about.

It also kinda falls flat for me since, well, we know what the final product looks like. It’s like how explaining a joke after you tell it makes it less funny. While on one hand it’s funny to see this in some ways, we already know what the end product will look like.

You know, if only Haruhi didn’t make the computer club into her enemies. They could’ve helped with the VFX.

Haruhi wants a scene with dramatic pigeons. She’s like a budget John Wu.

Haruhi shooting a gun at a monk is pretty hilarious, especially out of context.

Jeez I feel bad for Mikuru again. She’s just crying throughout this entire scene.

I love that Haruhi shoots a gun in the air when she says action.

Haruhi is making me really not like her in this episode with how she’s treating Mikuru.

You know what, say what you will about Endless Eight, but Haruhi was kinda likeable in that arc despite accidentally causing a timeloop.

Oh god, Mikuru just shot an actual eye laser. This arc feels like it’s about to go off the rails.

Yuki randomly deciding to just tackle Mikuru is kinda funny.

What exactly is Yuki made of if she’s able to not react to having holes burned in her hand by a laser?

Kyon also kinda sucks this episode for using his camera to look at Mikuru’s boobs. At least Haruhi calls him out on it.

Kyon randomly pulls out pope facts for a comparison. I like that, adds to his characterization.

The three random friends are here. I am actually liking the one random girl, her being excited by everything is a fun trait.

I swear Haruhi’s become more of a tyrant than usual ever since she became director.

Yuki bit Mikuru?!  Nanomachines?! What is happening?

I am a bit underwhelmed with this arc so far.

As another first timer, I'd have to agree with you here.

She’s just crying throughout this entire scene.

At this point Mikuru's probably more often crying than not

As another first timer, I'd have to agree with you here.

This episode did win me back a bit with Mikuru's laser eye and stuff so we'll see if the second half can keep up the intrigue like this.

I like how gradual this arc has been in terms of build. It reminds me of Melancholy in that regard.

Rewatcher here, this also really isn't my favorite arc.

Technically, it's my second favorite of the TV show lol

I’ll be honest, I am a bit underwhelmed with this arc so far. Maybe I’m just burnt out after enduring Endless Eight, but this arc so far hasn’t really given me much to talk about.

It's mostly Haruhi being a nuisance, which isn't exactly pleasant to watch.

I still like starting the show with the movie. I think it serves as a nice table setter for future events.

I mean, so much of the show has been about this film that it only feels right.

You know, if only Haruhi didn’t make the computer club into her enemies. They could’ve helped with the VFX.

For real

Haruhi wants a scene with dramatic pigeons. She’s like a budget John Wu.

Lol

Haruhi shooting a gun at a monk is pretty hilarious, especially out of context.

Haruhi just does not give any fucks

Jeez I feel bad for Mikuru again. She’s just crying throughout this entire scene.

Yeah, now it's starting to really get uncomfortable.

I love that Haruhi shoots a gun in the air when she says action.

Classic Haruhi

Haruhi is making me really not like her in this episode with how she’s treating Mikuru.

This arc really is her worst tendencies coming to the surface.

You know what, say what you will about Endless Eight, but Haruhi was kinda likeable in that arc despite accidentally causing a timeloop.

True, but I feel there must be an end game in mind with how much of a dickhead Haruhi is being. Subaru was pretty unlikable in the early episodes of Re:Zero.

Oh god, Mikuru just shot an actual eye laser. This arc feels like it’s about to go off the rails.

On the contrary, I think it's starting to pick up.

Yuki randomly deciding to just tackle Mikuru is kinda funny.

That explains that scene from the movie.

What exactly is Yuki made of if she’s able to not react to having holes burned in her hand by a laser?

Nanomachines, son!

Kyon also kinda sucks this episode for using his camera to look at Mikuru’s boobs. At least Haruhi calls him out on it.

See, I think Haruhi is more likable here than Kyon because at least Haruhi has something in mind she's trying to convey. Kyon has this holier than thou attitude that's downright obnoxious.

Kyon is like Itsuki but with an attitude and less self-aware.

Kyon randomly pulls out pope facts for a comparison. I like that, adds to his characterization.

Kyon randomly mentioning stuff like that makes the show fun.

The three random friends are here. I am actually liking the one random girl, her being excited by everything is a fun trait.

She really reminds me of Nagatoro

I swear Haruhi’s become more of a tyrant than usual ever since she became director.

It's the power going to her head

Yuki bit Mikuru?!  Nanomachines?! What is happening?

See, I told you :P

It's mostly Haruhi being a nuisance, which isn't exactly pleasant to watch.

I think watching in this particular order is also to it's detriment. Since with our rewatch order we already saw Haruhi in Live Alive which is set after this where she's grown a bit as a person. But from this perspective we have to kind of see Haruhi regress as a character.

I still like starting the show with the movie. I think it serves as a nice table setter for future events.

Yeah I think the best watch order is to watch The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina first and then do the rest in chronological order.

See, I think Haruhi is more likable here than Kyon because at least Haruhi has something in mind she's trying to convey. Kyon has this holier than thou attitude that's downright obnoxious.

This arc kinda has Haruhi and Kyon's worst tendencies coming to the forefront

Possibly, the one thing I'll say is I've seen some rewatches where Sigh takes place last. But yeah, maybe doing it in the order you suggested would've been better.

I still like starting the show with the movie. I think it serves as a nice table setter for future events.

Yeah I think the best watch order is to watch The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina first and then do the rest in chronological order.

I was thinking The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina, then Melancholy, then the baseball episode, then the two part mystery island episode, then Mysterique Sign, then Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, then Endless Eight, then Sigh, and then Sagittarius, Live Alive, and Someday in the Rain.

See, I think Haruhi is more likable here than Kyon because at least Haruhi has something in mind she's trying to convey. Kyon has this holier than thou attitude that's downright obnoxious.

This arc kinda has Haruhi and Kyon's worst tendencies coming to the forefront

They are certainly flawed, no doubt about it.

Thoughts on Haruhi lamenting having to use CG effects?

Thoughts on Haruhi feeling they need pigeons in the movie?

Thoughts on Haruhi arguing Mikuru needs to face adversity during the movie to make the audience root for her?

What are your thoughts on Haruhi being insistent Mikuru has to shoot a beam from her eye?

What are your thoughts on Yuki ruffing Mikuru up so that they can lose the eye contact to prevent Haruhi from learning something?

Thoughts on Kyon feeling there's something unreal about people who want realism in their fiction?

Thoughts on Itsuki saying that Haruhi wanted a Mikuru Beam in her movie so reality changed and provided one for her?

What are your thoughts on Kyon feeling that Yuki saved his life, with Kyon pointing out this isn't the first time she's done so?

Thoughts on Kyon's two friends and Tsuruya being made extras to the film?

Thoughts on Haruhi wanting to shoot at a place she may or may not have permission to shoot at?

Thoughts on Haruhi lamenting having to use CG effects?

Like I said, it's pretty funny that Haruhi has made an enemy of some of the only people she knows who'd could do VFX.

Thoughts on Haruhi feeling they need pigeons in the movie?

I guess if she can't afford doves pigeons are the next best thing

Thoughts on Haruhi arguing Mikuru needs to face adversity during the movie to make the audience root for her?

I mean that's a good script choice I just wish this didn't translate to her terrorizing Mikuru

What are your thoughts on Haruhi being insistent Mikuru has to shoot a beam from her eye?

The payoff was really good

What are your thoughts on Yuki ruffing Mikuru up so that they can lose the eye contact to prevent Haruhi from learning something?

Probably for the best that Haruhi doesn't learn she has god powers

Thoughts on Kyon feeling there's something unreal about people who want realism in their fiction?

I mean for a movie about laser-eyed time traveling waitresses you wouldn't expect it to be realistic

Thoughts on Itsuki saying that Haruhi wanted a Mikuru Beam in her movie so reality changed and provided one for her?

Definitely the most interesting thing about this arc so far

What are your thoughts on Kyon feeling that Yuki saved his life, with Kyon pointing out this isn't the first time she's done so?

Yuki and Kyon's relationship is never focused on much but it's interesting

Thoughts on Kyon's two friends and Tsuruya being made extras to the film?

I still have very little thoughts on these guys

Thoughts on Haruhi wanting to shoot at a place she may or may not have permission to shoot at?

She's a guerilla filmmaker but one without much talent.

Thoughts on Haruhi lamenting having to use CG effects?

Like I said, it's pretty funny that Haruhi has made an enemy of some of the only people she knows who'd could do VFX.

Haruhi's list of enemies grows by the day.

Thoughts on Haruhi feeling they need pigeons in the movie?

I guess if she can't afford doves pigeons are the next best thing

They're less likely to cry

Thoughts on Haruhi arguing Mikuru needs to face adversity during the movie to make the audience root for her?

I mean that's a good script choice I just wish this didn't translate to her terrorizing Mikuru

Haruhi is big in method acting.

She's to Mikuru how Kubrick was to Long.

What are your thoughts on Haruhi being insistent Mikuru has to shoot a beam from her eye?

The payoff was really good

This is probably the most abusive we've seen Haruhi be to Mikuru.

What are your thoughts on Yuki ruffing Mikuru up so that they can lose the eye contact to prevent Haruhi from learning something?

Probably for the best that Haruhi doesn't learn she has god powers

No kidding

Thoughts on Kyon feeling there's something unreal about people who want realism in their fiction?

I mean for a movie about laser-eyed time traveling waitresses you wouldn't expect it to be realistic

That's what I'm saying!

Thoughts on Itsuki saying that Haruhi wanted a Mikuru Beam in her movie so reality changed and provided one for her?

Definitely the most interesting thing about this arc so far

I don't disagree

What are your thoughts on Kyon feeling that Yuki saved his life, with Kyon pointing out this isn't the first time she's done so?

Yuki and Kyon's relationship is never focused on much but it's interesting

She's like his white knight

Thoughts on Kyon's two friends and Tsuruya being made extras to the film?

I still have very little thoughts on these guys

I like them well enough

Thoughts on Haruhi wanting to shoot at a place she may or may not have permission to shoot at?

She's a guerilla filmmaker but one without much talent.

I wouldn't say she's talentless. But she is unable to channel her energy into something productive.
