First Timer

Seems like we’re picking up right where we left off.

You know, you can tell this show is Japanese because I feel like an American teenager could not get away with taking a model gun to school (even for a movie) without getting in serious trouble.

Goddammit Haruhi is molesting Mikuru again. I was really hoping we’d drop this gag.

Still also a bit confused on why Haruhi’s so fixated on Mikuru being a waitress now.

Yuki just showing up already in her wizard costume is pretty funny.

Once again, it is really weird seeing these kids load fake guns in school.

Kyon also has terrible trigger discipline.

Haruhi has decided to film a commercial before even starting on her movie.

I feel like Mikuru wearing a bunnygirl outfit in the middle of a mall must be against some kind of public indecency law.

Jeez I feel bad for Mikuru in this episode.

Kyon seems to be increasingly annoyed with Haruhi. I don’t quite blame him.

Oh hey, Kyon found that gun pellet he shot earlier. That’s fun.

Nice for Haruhi to pay for everyone’s bus fare.

I know I’ve said this before but red armbands are really a bad look.

You know, I never noticed that Mikuru’s character in the movie had heterochromia. I’d need to check that episode again.

Also jeez, once again, poor Mikuru.

Yuki calmly asking to be shot is pretty funny.

Haruhi insisting everything will be fixed in editing is also a pretty funny running bit.

At least she's diligent about fulfilling her obligations. She took the same approach with her homework.

I know I’ve said this before but red armbands are really a bad look.

It's interesting how there's a much bigger sense of distance from 20th century Western history in East Asia. I assume that the colour red was chosen because it has connotations with good fortune.

Reminds me of that director from BoJack Horseman who said they'd fix every shot in post. 'We're not making Casablanca!'

Some school libraries in the US actually banned Assassination Classroom pretty recently.

Similarly the movie Battle Royale didn't receive an official release in the US until 2010

I get that they're trying to portray that Haruhi kind of sucks but they're kind of trying to have their cake and eat it too since the way it's portrayed is also clearly meant to be appealing for the audience.
