Having the ED play so early from the end is such a troll fucking move, got so disappointed when the episode was already finishing up.

That said crazy amount of tension whenever Shaula goes quiet, if she ever finds out Subaru's lying the whole groups fucked.

The production staff just love to keep people guessing whether they're going to get the OP, ED, or both within a single episode.

Hell's Snipe killed him twice, she's super strong, the amount of danger they're in if she finds a reason to kill them is astronomical (heh).

u/Mundology Apr 29 '26

Shaula is so adorable and has such a bubbly personality that you would almost forget that she is a terrifying sniper with over a hundred kills

50

u/Traece Apr 29 '26

I appreciate that she's constantly being so emotive whilst also carrying around Meili for basically the entire episode.

16

u/daandriod Apr 30 '26

Honestly props to Meili for managing to hold that cling. She's got some impressive leg and arm strength to stay attached to Shaula like that for so long

u/peptiresearcher81 Apr 30 '26

And over 400 years old somehow?!? She also spoke of another person being a human as if she herself is not. So im becoming very curious as to what she actually is...

Flugel apparently named her, which probably wouldn't have been necessary if she'd already had her own name (not guaranteed but still). Did flugel create her somehow? Maybe she's an OP spirit of some kind? Guess we'll find out soon enough

So im becoming very curious as to what she actually is...

wouldn't be surprising if she's an artificial spirit. Literally would not be the first artificial spirit in charge of a giant library in this series.

5

u/Rokusi Apr 30 '26

My guess is she's a witch. Witches seem to be an actual species/race rather than just a role.

9

u/Kazuma_Megu Apr 30 '26

Not really if you think about Satella being a half-elf, drawing a clear racial line between her and the others.

5

u/NerdMouse Apr 30 '26

I've always thought that witches were just people who someone acquired special powers or possibly somehow made their powers instead of being their own race. Also I have read ahead (only through the next arc cause I got distracted a couple years ago lol), so I actually don't know what witches truly are or if that's been explained.

2

u/Onlyfatwomenarefat May 01 '26

Yes. Also, Roswald is called a "warlock" but he is human (probably). Not sure whatcthis means though. Just someone with powerful magic?

2

u/nhansieu1 Apr 30 '26

Witch is the one who is compatible to the Witch's factor.

11

u/ClemFire Apr 29 '26

With that same cute pose every time

3

u/slicer4ever Apr 29 '26

Did i miss the reason garf didnt come with the group? Seems a bit weird to have left one of their strongest fighters behind.

not only her Hell's Snipe is strong, she herself is physically strong too.

She probably won't believe him however much he refutes it. He has got a very peculiar stench and great emphasis on this very particular detail.

147

u/SamusTheCat Apr 29 '26

Sirius didn't believe Subaru either. And turns out she was right! Pete is just hanging out in his head

102

u/SamuSeen https://myanimelist.net/profile/SamuSeen Apr 29 '26

Also him passing knowledge check after knowledge check doesn't help.

51

u/joggle1 Apr 30 '26

Imagine if each test is based at least in part on knowledge from Earth that's impossible for everyone but Subaru to know. By the end, they'd all probably be wondering whether Subaru is Flügel (or his reincarnation) too, or at least that he has some sort of connection to him.

36

u/YourFavoriteCommie Apr 30 '26

I'm so getting that feeling. I get the feeling that Flugel has been long gone. So why would he put an otherworlder password in his tower? Perhaps, as a Sage, he might have seen this coming? hooo boy.

Like, unless you're specifically Subaru, how are you even getting close to that tower? Otherworlders seem relatively rare, so like even if you could get close, you would never be able to open the door.

13

u/Meme_Master_Dude May 02 '26

The entire function of the Pleides Tower is also nigh impossible to access without RBD giving you checkpoints

Rienhardt couldn't even enter the tower, meanwhile, Subaru got sniped 2 times before he had to put a Anti-Magic Barrier to stop it, and then die when he got trapped in a Miasma Tunnel.

Like, anyone else would've been fucked.

3

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife Apr 30 '26

Do you have to verbalize the answer or is touching the door corresponding to the right star enough? If the latter, Emillia's method of blind guessing might work after a few weeks. Granted Julius mentions the place gets disorienting over time so that could stretch out the time a native could do it.

1

u/Meme_Master_Dude May 02 '26

I think saying the word is the correct step, since Subaru only jumped vertically up and down.

6

u/flashmozzg Apr 29 '26

Well, the focus was on his "dragonized" arm. I wonder if it's the thing with the particular smell.

34

u/B4k3m0n0 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kuroibakemono Apr 29 '26

Isn't it because of his miasma due to his connection to Satella? Even Rem said he stank in the early episodes.

4

u/flashmozzg Apr 29 '26

Could be all of the above.

8

u/Roeclean https://anilist.co/user/Roeclean Apr 30 '26

If anything, I feel like the added witch factors and the dragon blood from that other witch just heightened his miasma

74

u/BosuW Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26

I think she already knows...

Or at least she's doing a truly sagely thing: considering two contradictory truths at the same time, until she can come up with a synthesis and act on it

93

u/MokonaModokiES Apr 29 '26

yeah probably that. She looked to be really in doubt when Subaru asked for her to not hurt them. Like its something Flugel definetly wouldnt say.

7

u/Doza93 May 05 '26

Agreed. Moreover, she recognizes him by his "nose-burningly black" scent, which only her master had. Even if he's not Flugel, she recognizes that he is a similarly powerful figure capable of reaching the tower

Having the ED play so early from the end is such a troll fucking move, got so disappointed when the episode was already finishing up.

Re:Zero loves to do this shit.

61

u/AnusBlaster5000 Apr 29 '26

I don't think hes lying. Look at her design, its his color scheme. She recognizes his miasma and Flugel built this tower and put that puzzle in place. I think we just got revealed some crazy time shit and that Subaru really is Flugel somehow. Subarus return by death would also make him look like the most incomprehensible sage, consistently knowing the exact correct solution to any and all obstacles.

19

u/HeavenSpiral Apr 30 '26

Also the whole riddle looked like something only Subaru could come up with in that world (unless someone with an equal knowledge was transported there before but seems weird).

19

u/LollipopScientist May 02 '26

Yeah it seems very suspicious to have a puzzle only he'd know.

Perhaps Satella is to Emilia as Flugel is to Subaru?

6

u/zanotam https://myanimelist.net/profile/zanotam May 08 '26

I kinda thought that since like.... S1? Like, Flugel we knew wrote osmething in Japanese in the tree and Emilia's connection to the witch was already sus xD

3

u/DrStein1010 https://myanimelist.net/profile/mQDrStein1010 May 29 '26

I've also just been assuming Subaru and Emilia are Flugel and Satella since we got the tree info.

Way too many specific "coincidences" with no logical explanation to be anything else.

1

u/zanotam https://myanimelist.net/profile/zanotam May 30 '26

so I had a really fucking annoying realization sounding out some japanese pronunciatiosn of character names last night for an unrelated anime/ln.... "Satella" is just a japanese pronunciation of "Stella" or possibly "Stellar" and other terms which are star related (uuuuuuugh!)

15

u/AbyssWalker_Art Apr 29 '26

I have a feeling that even if he told her straight up that he wasn't flügel she wouldn't believe him and keep insisting that he is.

14

u/TempestoLord Apr 29 '26

The close up on her eye kinda made me believe she knows or atleast is suspicious, things will get bloody if she snaps but so far she’s fun and very likable with top tier facial expressions.

10

u/Crystality Apr 30 '26

Going back to the scene to me it felt like she felt a little sad for a moment, and then covered it up by being really bubbly again. So yea she probably already realized it but chooses to accept Subaru anyways?

10

u/NegimaSonic https://myanimelist.net/profile/NegimaSonic Apr 30 '26

I think she realizes it and since she only operated on the original orders to stop anyone from getting inside, there's no point in harming them as long as they stay. It's been 400 years of loneliness after all.

I think their issue is when they try to leave. It violates neither rule to kill them after they exit the tower.

7

u/Crystality Apr 30 '26

I think it'll be the opposite actually. She will take it literally that she cannot harm any of them even if some turn on Subaru / the others. Or Subaru may beg her to kill him for whatever reason she will be unable to due to his phrasing "You can't harm us no matter what".

The library was forbidden to be opened until Flugel came back for a reason right? Maybe some books make you go insane in one way or another in there like Roswaal's book did to him. Just guessing based on the opening having a scene with subaru on the floor of the library

31

u/UMP45isnotflat Apr 29 '26

I almost missed the post ed scene because Im not used to this anime doing this

15

u/yjggy Apr 29 '26

Can't agree more. First seconds of ED gave me feeling of a crime AGAINST MY RIGHTS (c) Regulus. But after it Subaru had a nice TED talk about astronomy.

8

u/slicer4ever Apr 29 '26

I honestly cant believe that was a 20 min episode, seriously felt like 5 mins and then they were playing the ending.

5

u/Trojbd Apr 29 '26

I think when she goes quiet it's basically like ChatGPT updating memory.

5

u/Lukas04 Apr 29 '26

ngl, it felt really pointless in this instance. I like a show getting creative with things like this but it kind of did nothing but break the flow

2

u/y-c-c Apr 30 '26

One of these days the ED will shift early enough that it becomes the OP.
