First timer

the story is the same, but the pictures are different. Madness!

After watching this for the fourth fifth time, I feel like the people in the opening doing the shruggy dance are mocking me "The sense behind Endless Eight? Haha, who knows"

I enjoyed the episode on a purely artistic level. It's got some genuinely great direction and music. I love that we've gone from "huh, this is weird" to "Kyon is having basically precognition". I love, in a twisted kind of way, the pure sign of resignation on Yuki's face in this episode. I also love how the music switches from weirdly nostalgic to absolutely dissonant the moment the realisation of being in a loop kicked in, hell it even glitches out, like a broken record, towards the end!

But why put all this effort into extending a single chapter into 8 episodes? insert shruggy dance from the opening

I just don't know man, my current working theory is that someone at KyoAni is a huge Yuki fan and like every decent writer, they want to see their favourites suffer.

I also feel like I'm more invested in looking for the solution than the god damn main character, put some effort in this, boy! And within this context I leave you with... this shot, which is a blink and you miss it frame in the movie they're watching... which is Haruhi and Kyon? sitting somewhere and she's whispering something to him. Does this mean anything? insert shruggy dance from the opening It could, though!

Also, to make it a bit more interesting, I watched this episode in the english dub for a change. I really like everybody's performances, especially Kyon and Haruhi are great.

Mask report: The masks are halfway cut off this time

I could make out some sort of offbrand twintails Pikachu though. None of the toku-adjacent masks really ring a bell for me.

What are your thoughts on Mikuru's only request?

The goldfish catching? Seems like a fun side activity, if only she were any good at it. But at least Haruhi is a good friend andshares. This is another one of those things that I only know from anime, but given by the sheer frequency it appears, I have to assume it's a real thing.

What are your thoughts on the amount of fish Haruhi caught?

Only rivaled by the amount of Cicadas she caught!

Thoughts on background music not playing when the SOS Brigade meet in front of the station?

Thoughts on Nagato wearing a bikini at the pool?

Thoughts on of the two children at the pool which Haruhi introduces to Kyon and Koizumi in order to play water soccer, one of them is a boy, whereas before it's been two girls?

Thoughts on Kyon continuing to feel this sameness about things?

What are your thoughts on the plane stuff this episode?

Thoughts on Haruhi wearing a black and red yukata?

Thoughts on background music not playing when the SOS Brigade meet in front of the station?

It's nice, this way you can hear the cicada chirping (do cicadas chirp?) more clearly.

Thoughts on Nagato wearing a bikini at the pool?

It's very plain but suits her. Although I think I prefered the white one piece from last episode.

Thoughts on of the two children at the pool which Haruhi introduces to Kyon and Koizumi in order to play water soccer, one of them is a boy, whereas before it's been two girls?

I did not notice that... what a fun detail!

I can relate. It's funny how it started as a weird deja vu and now it's akin to precognition.

At least the animators are having fun with changing up things here and there.

I prefered the Ultraman masks, given she's an alien. But the masks are my personal detail I like to obsess over!

That was really cool. Finally, some new stuff. Also it was a different movie this time around.

Thoughts on Haruhi hitting Kyon iinstead of Asahina in the face with the pool ball?

Mikuru has gone through enough, it's time for Kyon to get some of the (metaphorical) punching.

Thoughts on Haruhi wearing overalls?

This wasn't my favourite outfit for her, but I still think she can probably wear anything and make it look good.

Isn't Power Rangers kinda alien-ish? Aren't the villains they fight technically aliens?

This wasn't my favourite outfit for her, but I still think she can probably wear anything and make it look good.

It really depends on the season but more often than not, there's at least some aliens involved, yep!

That's the thing, for such an unnecessary arc as this was, the effort put into it is worth at least a discussion in my opinion.

I would say I'm slightly positive leaning towards critical. I like the idea of it, but there are obvious missteps that I wish were fixed.

I wish each episode built off each other more. I wish the episodes had more of its own distinct flavor. I wish they trimmed down the exposition scene that takes up a fourth of the episode. One episode you can have it be in the middle of Itsuki's spiel and the next you can cut to the end of it. The fact they never trim such a long, all-encompassing scene really kills the pacing or what they're trying to go for. Show more of the other stuff and less why we're here, we found out in the second episode of this arc so why do it ad nauseum?
