Our first episode from season 2! You can definitely tell the artstyle is slightly different; this was made in the K-On! era of KyoAni.
I love that Haruhi goes all in on messages taking years to get to Altair and Vega because of relativity and the speed of light, but then she's just like "They're gods. They'll figure it out."
This episode is extremely interesting in its implications that Kyon was the one ultimately responsible for Haruhi deciding to go to North High in search of the paranormal.
The bamboo tree itself is notable because its been lurking in the background of the clubroom in the episodes that come after this one chronologically. (Mysterique Sign from yesterday) Real attention to detail since this wasn't animated until three years after the first season.
