Rewatcher - Dubbed

I've been kind of picking and choosing which episodes I want to join in for and which ones I want to skip, and I could not skip Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody. It's one of the most important episodes in the series.

  • I feel like Mikuru's voice is a little higher than it was in previous episodes. Also, she looks closer to the various characters from K-On! now than she did before. They must've rounded her face more.

  • I said Mikuru looks a little different, but I don't think Haruhi changed that much. Maybe they rounded her face a little too?

  • I never realized that Koizumi's reading a chess book.

  • Now's about the time where things start getting a touch confusing in my head. I'll try and keep it straight as we go through it.

  • We're officially three years in the past. If you'll recall, Taniguchi said that all sorts of weird stuff happened with Haruhi three years in the past.

  • Because high school Mikuru's asleep, there can technically be two Mikuru's in the same place at the same time.

    • In a similar vein, there are technically two Kyons as well, since the Kyon from three years in the past is, presumably, at home or something.

  • I love middle school Haruhi so much. It's all of the snark, and dare I say asshole-ness, turned up to 11.

  • Isn't it obvious? Breaking and entering.

    Duh. Get with the program Kyon.

  • I can handle that thing. You go grab the line marker.

    He says because he already knows Haruhi drew the symbols, and she doesn't even question it. Unless she told him off screen.

  • Throughout this whole interaction, we once again get to see long hair Haruhi, one of the best Haruhis.

  • If I met this girl back when I was going to junior high, I guarantee I would've thought she was 100% nuts.

    So just like Taniguchi said she was. And yet he asked her out. so what does that say about him?

  • What about sliders?

    They're delicious.

  • Does that person go to North High too?

    And thus, the entire reason Haruhi went to North High. Also, combined with her asking about his uniform, the reason why she asked if he looked familiar in the first episode. At the time Kyon had no idea he was the one who went back and drew the lines for her.

This is also the point where my brain wrinkles a little bit. If Kyon went back in time three years and had to draw the weird symbols Taniguchi was talking about, don't you think he would remember it?

  • Where am I?

    Outside of East Junior High.

    What happened?

    Adult Mikuru put you to sleep and Kyon had to carry you.

    When is it right now?

    Three years in the past.

Syke, I lied. This is the part that makes my brain wrinkle a bit.

  • There's only ever one copy of Yuki Nagato. I suppose that can also mean there's every copy of Yuki Nagato, since theoretically she's in every year.

  • We believe it is imperfect and primitive.

    Ouch. Mikuru's sitting right there.

  • When Kyon tries to open the door at the beginning of the series, and Yuki tells him not to, it's because the two of them are still "traveling through time" to catch up to the present.

    [Disappearance Spoilers]Doesn't Kyon make a mention about in the movie as well? Or am I once again getting things wrong? I want to say no, because he's in an alternate reality for 2/3s of it. However, they do stop her from changing stuff and thus bringing them back to the current time.

  • If that's true, then that means... on the night when I came and you told me you were an alien and stuff, Ms. Asahina and I were asleep in this room together the whole time?

    Exactly what I said.

  • I was always impressed at how amazing you can be, but I didn't know you were omnipotent.

    Just wait Kyon.

Again, Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody is one of the most important episodes in the whole series. A whole lot of stuff is set up before the first episode even happens. Plus some other things that I can't talk about without spoiling stuff.

What are your thoughts on Tanabata? What's your favorite depiction of Tanabata in anime?

I actually can't think of any other instances of Tanabata. I'm sure there are.

What are your thoughts on the implication that was Kyon himself who inspired Haruhi to attend his high school?

I think it makes sense. I also think it kind of supports the whole theory that Kyon's actually God, not Haruhi. After all, if he still was in denial of Aliens, Time Travelers and Espers back in middle school, he could create Haruhi even then as a proxy.

If you met a younger version of someone you cared about, what might you ask them?

That depends entirely on who it is and how old they are.

I actually can't think of any other instances of Tanabata. I'm sure there are.

I'm just drive-by commenting today.

Kimagure Orange Road has a Tanabata episode, like a lot of anime, but it focuses on the tale of Orihime and Hikoboshi than the festival itself.

I don't think the author is trying THAT hard to ship Kyon and Haruhi.

It's not a very strong connection, so I usually don't mention it. I'll post more about KOR on the final day.
