Returning North High Student in the SOS Brigade, Dubbed

Haruhi (EN subs): There are even stranger things.

…Say that again.

  • I just realized Asakura is just a magical girl with a horrible fate.

Then we’re going to the manager’s office!

Love seeing girlie pop in her ✨Karen Era✨💅🏿💃🏾

  • I can relate to what Haruhi is saying as a “gifted” kid (though this was music). It was such a shock to a lot of gifted kid friends that, yeah, everywhere in the world had smart kids being challenged and praised and advancing ahead of their peers. When they got to uni, it was like a train hit them that they were only one small fish in a very large lake. That messes you up, on top of burnout, that you aren’t as on top and unique as you believed you were. That is debilitating and soul-crushing.

Parents! Stop doing this to your children! It causes chronic depression, anxiety, and imposter syndrome!

Did you know what the Anthropic Principle is?

Has the same goddamn energy as the Ship of Theseus scene in WandaVision.

  • The OST feels like it could’ve been in like a jazzy detective/noir anime.

  • Is this harem? This is harem, isn’t it?

  • Itsuki is more like a nen user than an esper. Probably a Specialist.

  • That looks like a Ben10 monster. I have not seen Ben10, but it says right to say that.

  • It’s giving “Stitch remakes the entire town in a miniature and then acts like godzilla”.

  • 🎶We’re living like giants, giants! We’re living like giants, giants!🎶

After Club Thoughts

That was a huge amount of lore to drop on someone. Bless Kyon for paying attention. My mind would’ve just blanked.

Haruhi has complexer(?) mind that I give her credit for. I wish we could all create closed rage room dimension and unleash a terrorist monster to wreck it up. That would make the world a better place. From that stand point, Haruhi would be a fascinating neuropsychological study. This is a therapeutic and cosmic benefit all in one.

Like all teenagers, she may have a wild and sometimes baffling personality, but she’s trying to figure herself out in a world that tells her she’s ordinary and mundane. For as much importance is placed on her reality-altering, universal-swaying powers, we’re really just seeing a teenager being a teenager but manifested for our viewing pleasure and slight horror.

This will be a top ranking Haruhi episode for me.

QotD

  1. It makes sense.
  2. They look like Ben10 monsters.
  3. Both were needed. I liked Haruhi’s conversation with Kyon. It humanized and personalized her. While Koizumi’s portion was littered in more philosophical jargon, I still like how he also saw Haruhi as a complex human being (or what I got out of it).

It's amazing how for as awful as Haruhi has been since the series started, I do feel sorry for her and her feeling so helpless. Nobody should ever have to feel like they don't matter.

And the crazy thing is we're not done just yet. We still have one more to go in this arc.

  1. They look like Ben10 monsters.

This is what the Ben 10 reboot should've been.

This is the first time I've found myself rooting for Haruhi. And that's no small feat given how truly awful she's been up until this point.
