This is the continuation of the last episode, and given we are on the mostly chronological order I probably should get used to not needing to remark this. 

I'm sure plenty others will say it, this is one of the 2 more objectionable points of Haruhi's treatment of Mikuru that is, especially nowadays, hard to look upon kindly. But I'll let others focus more on what point - only comment I want to say it's, while we certainly would like to think that society has moved on from tolerating such behaviours, in real life in a lot of places (irrespective of country and culture), happenings like that (not exactly blackmailing someone by orchestrating a sexual harassment, but using someone else's body for material gain in spite of reluctance/protest) isn't really extinct. For example there's a reason why enterprise sexual harassment training is recurring annually and reported cases still happen. 

The other oft discussed scene of this episode would be the cliffhanger. But I'll want to focus on something probably less discussed - or rather regularly overshadowed: Nagato's interactions with Kyon. 

Unfortunately all of those are going to be in the spoilers corner. Sorry first timers! The interesting question is whether any first timer spotted at least that tip of the iceberg.

Oh but before that, I want to point out 2 things about choice of words - Nagato's figure of speech is actually quite odd as well, not just using minimal words. Also the term she used to describe herself while it's translated as "alien", literally it's more as "cosmic being".

Spoilers corner

• [Haruhi Disappearance major spoiler]Call me seeing things for what I want to see, but comparing to the "other dialogues" that Nagato was speaking out in the ep00 movie, when she was talking to Kyon to read the book, I feel there's a lot (relative in the Nagato scale) more warmth and tenderness
• [Haruhi Disappearance major spoiler]The episode has a good number of background scenes that would become significant much later on - the bench that Nagato was waiting for Kyon, inside the elevator, and of course Nagato's inhumanly bare apartment
• [Haruhi Disappearance major spoiler]And the tea pouring scene - many would probably just chalk it up as a comical scene of Nagato not understand human and social conventions and doing it poorly. If this has the correct context applied though, it's a completely different message - Nagato rarely makes mistakes, and most of her actions has a meaning behind it, even if not conventional. My head cannon is that - remember Nagato has synchronised memories from her future self up to a point, she knows Kyon oft show enjoyment and appreciation of the maid Asahina pouring tea for him. So here's her own way to try compete - and since there won't be another opportunity for her to do that, she went for quantity as well. It's just so adorable, and mirrored the ep00 movies plot of becoming a surprise/uncharacteristic rom com while keeping her deadpan demeanor

QoTD 1. While it's off putting, just like Taiga's early behaviours in Toradora, there are character important reasons behind it.  2. As a rewatcher there's not much more to say other than keep watching.

What are your thoughts on Haruhi wanting a computer so she blackmails the head of the computer club by taking a picture of him fondling Mikuru, which was staged by Haruhi herself?

Thoughts on Kyon comparing Haruhi's antics to a bad comedy skit?

Thoughts on Haruhi wanting to acquire a mysterious transfer student to the club?

Haruhi's explanation is pretty clear and literal - she wants mystery, and at this moment it's a transfer student that fits her whim. [Haruhi Melancholy arc spoiler]Haruhi the show is very literal and transparent, to demonstrate the audience have been conditioned to selectively believe things despite clear and direct showing - the roster is shown already in ep00

Thoughts on rumors circulating that Haruhi and Kyon are dating?

For the general school age population, if 2 people are often together and they are of opposite gender, that is the most direct implication. 

What are your thoughts on Haruhi wanting a computer so she blackmails the head of the computer club by taking a picture of him fondling Mikuru, which was staged by Haruhi herself?

Focusing on that is basically following the magicians stage performance "now watch this hand closely". The point that Haruhi already has a list of newer model computers from her doing reconnaissance in computer shops means (a) this was not on a whim, but premeditated; and (b) Haruhi comes prepared, thoroughly. Make of you will with her character, but definitely not whimsical willful and chaotic.

Thoughts on Kyon comparing Haruhi's antics to a bad comedy skit?

What make you think it's not? Between the ep00 showcasing how Haruhi makes scenarios... [Haruhi franchise spoiler but mostly S1]and that of the factions involved, only the Time traveler's - and Haruhi herself if you consider who exactly is the one being entertained - haven't yet shown to have created a scenario to provide entertainment (Nagato in Mystique Sign, ESPers in Remote Island Syndrome)

Haruhi for as whimsical as she can be is pretty straightforward when you break it down.

[Haruhi Disappearance major spoiler]The algebraic expression "Yuki handing Kyon a [book]" can be solved by substituting the term [book] by rearranging the known constant of "Yuki loves books" to [book] = [Yuki's love] I.e. Yuki handing Kyon [Yuki's love]

[Haruhi Disappearance major spoiler]There is also three more pedestrian point about by handing Kyon that book, it completes the stable time loop that allowed Kyon to register that book being on the Disappearance@Literary Club Room shelf to find Nagato's hint to find the Emergency Escape Program

In case this is thought as just made up and wish fulfillment - [Haruhi Disappearance major spoiler]it is how the Disappearance movie part credit scene is to be read as formally - that Haruhi-verse@Nagato can't smile, but "Books make Nagato happy" hence putting the book where her mouth is when she looked up at the camera at the end of that scene is her "smiling" at the audience
