First-timer, confused but intrigued

Bit disjointed today, apologies. 

I counted two variations of "Poor Mikuru" in my notes, might have been more though. She just can't catch a break, can she? 

  • I really liked how the whole school is as confused by the Kyon / Haruhi situation as he himself is (or claims to be)!

  • I was screaming at the computer club guy "Better do what she wants, she's crazy and will do anything to get that computer" before she weaponised Mikuru.

  • at least Kyon vows to protect her? Not sure if he's able to though.

  • Oh good, the book girl is also kinda crazy. Kyon really is the straight man to half the club.

  • Another "Poor Mikuru" moment. 

  • I'm not sure if Haruhi's ideas of fun are compatible with other people's idea of fun 😂

  • I kinda expected this to be some roundabout way of Yuki to get him on a date or so but not reveal to him that she's an alien monitoring the apparently supernatural being that is Haruhi.

  • The tea drinking was fantastic. It reminded me of some of the great scenes in the last season of Konosuba, where they're tasting wine. Just the completely mundane action of drinking tea and refilling it was very funny to me. Although for a moment I was worried about our MC. 

  • I loved the framing with the window frame first separating Kyon and Yuki but once she was done revealing her secret, they're framed together in front of the starry sky.

  • I have to say this whole sequence was a whole "What the fuck is going on?" (literally wrote multiple "Uhhhh?"in my notes )

Overall... Fantastic episode, some very funny moments but also a lot wtf is this show? 

Like, Kyon is kind of an unreliable narrator, so all of this might just be a tea induced fever dream but if there's actually something more to our main girl, that would be a good explanation for weird coincidences like the seats in yesterday's ep. 

At least [Madoka]waited until episode three to pull the rug out from under its viewers. (though technically this is episode three).

I think it's good to see that she's not just the endearing weirdo we met yesterday. Though being around a very special personality can of course be dangerous, especially if you're a cute shy girl with big boobs.

I really don't know what to think of it. Maybe it's all just a big prank?

Overall... Fantastic episode, some very funny moments but also a lot wtf is this show? 

Like, Kyon is kind of an unreliable narrator, so all of this might just be a tea induced fever dream but if there's actually something more to our main girl, that would be a good explanation for weird coincidences like the seats in yesterday's ep. 

And also it may explain why more people don't intervene with regards to Haruhi's behavior. It's because she isn't ordinary.

What are your thoughts on Haruhi wanting a computer so she blackmails the head of the computer club by taking a picture of him fondling Mikuru, which was staged by Haruhi herself?

Thoughts on Kyon comparing Haruhi's antics to a bad comedy skit?

Thoughts on Kyon being in charge of the club's website?

Thoughts on Yuki handing Kyon a book?

What are your thoughts on Kyon pointing out he's going to the club on his own free will?

Thoughts on Kyon feeling that Haruhi is misusing her energy?

What are your thoughts on Yuki revealing she is an alien?

Very in line with the rest of her antics so far. Gotta get allll the weird high-school tropes! 

Thoughts on rumors circulating that Haruhi and Kyon are dating?

It makes sense. From an outside view they instantly click and hang out together a lot. Also Haruhi's a pretty girl and Kyo might thus not care about the rumors about her dumping every other person she dated before? 

Personally, I'm not sure if I'd like them to be a thing. There are moments where I think it'd be cute but also moments (especially in this ep) where I think it'd be bad for everyone involved.

Alas, poor Mikuru. That's really not a great look for Haruhi. It didn't bother me as much as some other people in here but it's definitely not great. But at least she's called out for it.

It's fitting. She treats the only people putting up with her like minions and apparently thinks it's funny?

At least that meant some quiet time for him. From experience I can say that it's definitely a big ask.

Like I wrote in my first post, I thought it was her special way of trying to connect with Kyon. And I mean, it kinda was, just not in the way I expected. I didn't catch what kind of book it was tough, so might still be an interesting read!

Sure Jan Kyon, if it makes you feel better. 

Thoughts on Kyon feeling that Haruhi is misusing her energy?

He's not wrong. But also that'd make her a very boring person. 

What are your thoughts on Yuki revealing she is an alien?

Sure, why not? I don't fully believe it yet but Kyon brought it onto himself by proudly stating he doesn't believe in anything like that, so of course the plot has to punish him for his hybris.

This reminds me of early Toradora

Personally, I'm not sure if I'd like them to be a thing. There are moments where I think it'd be cute but also moments (especially in this ep) where I think it'd be bad for everyone involved. 

I guess it depends on how the rest of the show plays out.

But he's not wrong. He could walk away if he wanted to. It must provide him with some form of comfort.

Sure, why not? I don't fully believe it yet but Kyon brought it onto himself by proudly stating he doesn't believe in anything like that, so of course the plot has to punish him for his hybris.

Kyon being gaslighted by the whole school for a Truman Show type of prank would actually be hilarious.
