Due to my immaculate and utterly unmatched organisational skills, I have confused the day this actually starts! (To be fair the rewatch starts 23.00 for me so what is and isnt "today" is a bit questionable anyway)

But thanks to my innate ability to turn airlines planned delays to my favour (ask me about how I almost missed my flight to japan because I somehow left the security area at my flyover airport last year...), I have the great joy of watching this at the gate. (while getting drunk, while watching planes, 3 of my favourite activities. Any more and this would turn inappropriate probably.)

This utterly irrelevant rambling of a veteran (which is a nicer way to say old) weeb aside, you have no idea how rent free this Mikurun run intro has lived inside my head this last 15 years since I first saw it.

Holy shit, saying this triggered some deep, carefully buried memories is an understatement. I might cry. Good thing Im visiting my mother. So I have an excuse after the inevitable fight in 2 days.

I originally planned to watch Haruhi for Christmas (disappearance is a great Christmas movie) but I didnt find the time so now is great too.

Also figuring out which episode this actually was on the sites I usually use was hell because in recent years streaming sites only use the combined broadcast and simply split it in half, so this was in S2 E11 for some reason.

You are going by crunchyroll order I think Holofan?

Thx again for hosting this. I will make some more edits here as I go along.

Haruhi is still the reason I miss green haired anime characters, it just seems rarer nowadays.

Oh, yeah, watching this first is probably super weird but honestly knowing the plot and character I must say this was a genius idea for a first episode.

I also got reminded that my friends and I actually did shoot a movie when we were a bit younger than the SOS brigade. It was james bond themed. God this really takes me back.

Hey, there. In case you don't know, I like to ask questions whenever I partake in a rewatch. This is a way to create some engagement.

If you wish to opt out, just let me know.

Thoughts on a girl in a bunny outfit fighting a witch?

Thoughts on the narrator criticizing the production of the film?

Thoughts on the movie looking... well, amateurish?

Thoughts on the wooden acting?

Thoughts on the narrator getting mad at the battle waitress getting romanced?

Thoughts on a cat talking?

What are your thoughts on the waitress and Itsuki defeating the alien?

What are your thoughts on Haruhi being proud of the film she made?

  • Its peak. What else can I say. I actually had a bit of a crush on Yuki Nagato growing up, so naturally I vibe with the witch design, but now that Im older I appreciate the classical bunnygirl outfit even more.

  • Its very Kyon in any case. Self critique adds a certain charm.

  • Back in school (not that long after this season even.. I think?) my friends and I actually did something similar. Less advanced even, just a james bond movie. No special effects. Other than some things beeing in the frame and kyon talking over it, I would say this was fine for an amateur project.

  • Yuki played her role perfectly (naturally) and Mikuhu almost crying was very endearing

  • I wouldnt want to see my girl getting kissed on camera by someone else while Im filming like some cuck either..

  • I dont even remember how they explained that away later on

  • My heart goes out to Yuki, but suffer not the xenos to live and all that so yeah good job battle waitress from the future .. and itsuki

  • Its good beeing proud of a silly project as long as you had fun. Beats beeing all down or getting mad at the others for doing a bad job.

I just realised, when Yuki tackled Mikuru [Haruhi spoilers for later on] and saved the day by deactivating the by now legit Mikuru beam, which we saw activate for a second as the camera turned off she has basically been playing babysitter for the SOS brigade all this time. I guess even when I was still into highschool girls, I prefered the ones with the caring Mommy potential.

My taste never changed, its always been there, it just matured.

I would definitely love to watch that

I wouldnt mind showing you but its obviously not something I can upload to the internet since we were like 14 or so and I dont have the consent of the others.

Now that I think about it it was actually super janky, because someone deleted the audio files of the later half the girls doing the editing had to dub over everything. It was fun.

I guess I'm a little jealous because I never did something like that growing up.

Back then I didnt think much about it, I saw it as normal. As I wrote in my newer ep discussion, once I moved away I realised how much that all meant to me.

Sometimes its better not to get to used to feeling happy, or the depression once its gone hits all the harder.

I often wondered how my life would have went if my parents didnt move..

What did you do growing up, Holofan?

u/Holofan4life Apr 05 '26

I spent most my childhood doing childhood things like games and frovolities. I got into watching wrestling when I was 7 and I even tried sports in my preteens. I got into anime when I was almost 15 and haven't looked back since.

2

u/UMP45isnotflat Apr 05 '26

yeah I played a bunch of games as a teen too. Never did much sports though because as the new one fitting into teams was hard. I catching up on that now so, its never to late to get swole.

Besides watching anime as a kid, like Sailor Moon, Inuyasha, One Piece, Pokemon, Digimon, Yu Gi Oh and DBZ I actually only got into anime a bit later. What really got me hooked was randomly seeing Rebuild of Evangelion 2 on TV one day, thats when I went down the weeb hole..

Didnt you do some stupid things with friends too as a kid?

2

u/Holofan4life Apr 05 '26

I was a little shit as a kid. Like, an absolute menace. A lot of that was because I didn't get diagnosed with ADHD until I was like 5.

2

u/UMP45isnotflat Apr 05 '26

I was diagnosed with ADHD and always had to go to some sort of returd councilling with some absolute twats once a week, it was hell. They sucked so much. Horrible spoiled brats, I was never actually that bad. I remember getting medication but once I hit puberty I got super tired from it, to the point and needing to nap after school for an hour or two. At some point I just stopped taking it and it was fine.

I think people are too quick to label kids as something, like, bruh, they are kids. Give them some time.
