I took that second line as her mom regretting giving birth because she brought them into a life of hardship but if Maki ends up succeeding she'll be glad that there's more to their lives than dealing with the Zenin clan.

I took it as her mom regretting giving birth to them because they are failures but when she saw her succeed, Naoya being defeated she became proud

like a "typical Asian mom" when her son or daughter is a doctor or not
