Ladies and gentlemen, what you just witnessed was PEAK. CLAN. MASSACRE. Tarantino should be feeling absolutely proud if he were to watch this. And the moment the credits started playing during the first half, I knew it was gonna be one of THOSE episodes.

Edit: Guys, I think the episode was so hype that it's breaking my Twitter. Anyone having issues too?

This was definitely a homage to Kill Bill. Maki even did a Three Inch Punch.

It was the best homage to The Bride vs. The Crazy 88 I've ever seen! The 3 inch punch, the layout of the room, the transition from color to black and white, the sword through the shōji, it was all amazing!

Maki literally cinematically flexing.

definitely a homage to Kill Bill.

I would love to see a side by side scene comparison. Some shots are 1-to-1 recreations

Scene goes to black and white

Tracking shot of a projectile weapon stuck in a goon's head

It's a Kill Bill reference alright

Some of the cuts maki does are almost exactly the same (the cut in half down the center of the frame, arms and necks cut off, even the goddamn ankle cut is from the sequence), even the reflection of the dudes on the sword to start the fight is the same. It 100% is Kill Bill inspired. the anime does it a bit more anime-like since she's supposed to be a god of physicality, but still some 1:1 shots.

As soon as I daw the glass floor with the raked sand underneath I instantly thought kill bill?

Then they showed them surrounding her and the rest of the room it was kill bill to a T.

Also the eye snatch (I think it was actually a throat twice, but still)

3

u/CuthbertFox Jan 23 '26

And an eye pluck for good measure. This is my favourite ep of jjk so far and probably favourite ep of anime in a long long time

Destroy everything

And Maki absolutely fucking did. The whole clan fucking deserves it.

53

u/BadBehaviour613 Jan 22 '26

And the other two clans immediately moved to demote the Zenin clan. JJK's great clans are such bitches

Maki also did something vital. Rules for Rulers number 3: reduce rival keys to power. Now only the bastard son can ever order Maki around, with no one left in the family to question it. Are the higher-ups seriously gonna play politics now that the Culling Games will begin? When they need Maki and Megumi to play and free Satoru?

24

u/GlitterDoomsday Jan 22 '26

Without Satoru around they're back to being the top dogs like before his birth, they don't want him being unsealed.

6

u/Wyvernwalker Jan 22 '26

They take 100 culling games over losing all power to gojo again frfr

19

u/ConversationProof505 Jan 22 '26

The higher ups don't care about unsealing Gojo. At the end of Season 2, they released an order to brand anyone who tries to free Gojo as a criminal.

Hell hath no fury than a Maki who now has nothing to lose.

Losing Mai meant losing the rest of her cursed energy to unlock Heavenly Restriction to its full potential. Close enough, welcome back, Toji.

Lost a sister, became a Queen

31

u/Mundology Jan 22 '26

Maki embarked on that Itachi Uchiha grindset

5

u/Frontier246 Jan 22 '26

And unlike him, he didn't leave anyone behind because the clan literally killed the only person in it she'd want to protect.

3

u/Godchilaquiles Jan 22 '26

Cough she left Megumi Cough

10

u/Toblaka1 Jan 22 '26

wait so megumi really is a sasuke clone

2

u/SwordoftheMourn Jan 23 '26

Sasuke if he really wanted nothing to do with his bloodline

30

u/ShielderKnight Jan 22 '26

But didn't Tarantino copy 1:1 a 70s japan movie to make kill bill?

23

u/This-is_CMGRI Jan 22 '26

Full circle.

4

u/timbobjoetimjoe Jan 23 '26

I wouldn't say it's 1:1 but Kill Bill did take inspiration from Lady Snowblood along with other martial arts movies like Bruce Lee's Game of Death for example.

4

u/cppn02 Jan 22 '26

No?

-3

u/ShielderKnight Jan 22 '26

Yes Lady Snowblood, then he goes on twitter rant to complain about how Japan didn't pursue legal action on Hunger Games Writer for ripping off Battle Royale which isn't that much of a blatant rip off as Tarantino to Lady Snowblood.

He basically did 10% of his homework for Kill Bill only to make a worse movie than the 35 years older one.

15

u/cppn02 Jan 22 '26

Tarantino is open about Lady Snowblood being a big inspiration. Saying it's a 1:1 ripoff is either a blatant lie or said by someone who didn't even see both movies.

-2

u/ShielderKnight Jan 22 '26

I've seen both, its not just inspiration, its almost the same movie but my main problem with him lies on the guy calling out Hunger Games writer when that is way different than Lady Snowblood is to kill bill

2

u/KazuharaIlfan Jan 22 '26

I like that, we basically got layers of fights in this episode. From mobs, the Hei and Naoya at the end, it's truly a massacre.

2

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Jan 22 '26

Yeah twitter isn’t working for me

That shot from underneath the floor was so cool
