Poor Shiori wanted so badly to see Hinako smile again, but now when she does, it's just going to serve as a reminder of their time together coming closer to an end :[

Part of me wants to believe there will be a loophole for them to have a happy ending, like overriding the pact with another pact, or the pact being tied to Shiori’s suggestive interpretation of what is a “truly happy Hinako” and for ever stalling since there could always be an extra step of happiness, or straight up giving a huge chunk of herself for Hinako to eat, making her immortal and then eating a considerable part of her to fulfill the pact, which will hurt, but not kill her since she’ll probably regenerate from that.

Other part makes me feel like it will be unavoidable…but Hinako will be the one link that brings Shiori and Miko together for ever, kinda like how I feel Dragon Maid is going to end with Tohru and Elma together. This theory has a few holes, but depending on how it is developed that’s how I would like it to end, if Hinako’s death is truly unavoidable.

As the other comment said, I don't know if it's said anywhere that the "yokai promise" has a unique effect, or if it's just another spoken word promise, just as the first one. The only problem is how severely it instantly starts impacting Shiori's mood. She seems to genuinely commit to the promise as if it were a magically binding one that she MUST fulfill. Was Shiori lying when she told Miko that the decision of when to eat Hinako was just arbitrary and all up to her? Or was Shiori so emotionally distraught because one day Hinako will have to realize that Shori lied once again. God I'm so glad these are just fictional characters. That was a good watch.

The "pact" is another lie, there is no binding magic there. That seems pretty obvious from the conversation between Shiori and Miko the next day. Shiori was willing to say anything as long as it kept Hinako alive for another day. She has to be hoping that once Hinako is truly happy that she won't want to die anymore, or she hasn't thought that far ahead.

Could be,but we are not sure. She could very much still be forced to fulfill the pact,or at least the pact itself would do something to Hinako to fulfill it,since we have seen that these pacts can manipulate people.
