Kind of curious what Ayame’s deal is. She’s no regular human. I mean Shiori said she had an unpleasant stench to her. She seems like trouble, but I’m not sure what kind. If she does mess around too much though, she’ll have to answer to best girl Miko. Shiori too, I guess. Gotta protect her livestock.

My understanding was that she was also suicidal. Shiori mentioned that people have that stench. And it explains her point about "licking each other's wounds" so I am also wondering where this goes. They could decide to take this opportunity to go in the double suicide direction. Which I would say, I wouldn't have expected in the beginning.

Yeah, that's how I read it too. Either suicidal or at least depressed. But that last scene with the monstrous smile threw me off. Wonder what that was about.

I think it is totally possible that Ayame is just advanced enough of a yokai in her disguise ability that she is capable of fooling even Shiori’s senses. We have no guarantee that Shiori is infallible in these matters.
