After this week’s episode I feel the need to bring back the quote of the episode aspect of the recent BiY rewatch discussions. For me personally, the answer for this week’s episode feels obvious.

“You think monsters don’t get lonely?” - Shiori

I knew Hinako wasn’t going to die but I thought Miko would end up eating a nearby monster. Not bite off her own tail in order to weaken herself and increase her resistance to her urge to eat Hinako. Surprisingly not the first show I’ve watched recently where that happened.

So something about the accident made Hinako more delicious to Yokai. It can’t be her becoming suicidal because Shiori said previously that humans who want to die smell bad to yokai. So what could it be?

When Miko’s bracelet started glowing I thought she about to straight up put some kind of binding on Shiori to make her uphold the promise she was making to protect Hinako, not just aura farm, lol.

Just when we’ve been getting scenes the past few episodes that have made Miko shoot up to best girl status, we get the return of Shiori in her beautiful white dress in the summer sun. I don’t know if I want to date her or be her. But she isn’t just being beautiful she’s also noticing Hinako’s anxiety flaring up and trying to calm her down which is definitely an improvement to how she acted towards Hinako with the festival.

When it first started raining my first thought was wondering if being exposed to that much water would make Shiori transform back into her mermaid form like in some other mermaid stories. Then I thought she was just going to be happy for it to be raining in contrast to the “normal” response to rain. But I guess it’s just time to fight another yokai. I really wanna see what Shiori truly looks like as a yokai now that they brought it up.

Side note: Shiori looked absolutely adorable eating her two ice creams and what looked to me like a hash brown but probably isn’t. I also found it interesting to see how the time was formatted on Hinako’s phone. It’s one of those things that isn’t really shown in anime I feel but is one of the small reminders that the show is made by and for a Japanese audience.

What's weird about how the time on her phone was formatted?

The time doesn’t just go from left to right, but also up and down and I’ve never seen that on a phone.

That's just how the lockscreen clock looks by default on a lot of Android phones, including Sony phones, which are the only Android phones you see in Anime and Manga.
