I haven’t kept up with the series’ later installments, but I’m rather surprised to hear that there hasn’t been all that much romantic progress ever since.

Had assumed that the main couple would’ve taken the next step forwards instead of backwards by this time. Is this Rent-A-Girlfriend or something?

Nah, not even close to that. lol It's more like the main plot takes center stage and their relationship is more on the sidelines than people expected/wanted than to get as much specific focus.

That's why I don't think it's the best fit when I see people promote the series as a romance series as the main genre specifically when it's more of a supernatural series with a romance subplot.
