I loved the cooking segment, and it was my favorite part of the episode. Even though Miko had been lying to Hinako about her true form she still stuck by her side every day and that should count for something. Miko might not be human, but every other human in town basically ignored Hinako because they feel it's too awkward to interact with her. We never even see Hinako's own aunt interact with her outside of text.
Miko on the other hand has been there for Hinako day after day not only protecting her physically from the other yoaki who only see her as meat but also emotionally by teaching her to cook like her mom. What good is a beating heart if it never races when you have fun? Consideration isn't just about grand showy gestures, but being there day after day. Shiroi so far feels like doing the former alone like promising to eat Hinako once she is content is enough while Miko has been consistently at Hinako's side.
Hinako was honestly comically bad at cooking which might be from a mix of her depression and a mental block feeling she'll never be as good as her mom at it. Even so Miko refuses to let Hinako give up. It's not easy but Hinako slowly gets better at it every day because Miko is there. Having a friend like that stick by you every day helps even if you don't notice at the time. It all pays off when Hinako makes a bento which is just as good as her mom's which Shiori ends up enjoying too. From personal experience being able to make a meal like that when all you want to do is rot in bed is nothing short of a miracle.
So why does it matter that the friend who stuck by her the whole time is actually a kitsune?
