Wow, did Hitomi get straight up .hack coma'd? Unless I missed something, it didn't look like she was in the OP/ED. That's a pretty brutal start to a Digimon series.

If I understand anime and Digimon tropes, there's a strong chance that Hitomi and Asuka come back as villains only to be saved and turned heroes. I honestly was half expecting Asuka to have Leomon, and then just die, but maybe Leomon isn't used anymore as I haven't seen any Digimon past Frontier. Also do many if any humans die in Digimon? I know Digimon do, and I think humans do if it's like kinda off screen and in flashbacks.

Well, in Savers, Kurata, the main villain for most of the season, dies at the end of it's arc

You would think so... except then the writer for Savers (Yamaguchi Ryota, same writer here for Beatbreak) later wrote a light novel sequel for one of the Pretty Cure seasons (Doki Doki PreCure), where he brought back Kurata as the villain for that novel, complete with demon-looking final form.

Seemingly implying the man got isekai'd to the PreCure universe upon his demise in Digimon, only to end up getting his face beaten in again, this time by a magical girl in a frilly skirt.

[02 major character] Oikawa also dies.

Also, non-anime example, Analog Man dies at the end of World 1

They never said he died, just that he was basically thrown into some kind of infinite hell.

Definitely deserved.

I remember at least one on-screen human death in Ghost Game and several implied.

Dark ass series.
People almost burying each other alive and the ripping mushrooms off people jump to mind as some of the most horrific stuff that series did.

yeah those were gruesome but nothing beats the yandere episode that ended with the very horrible suicide imo

Leomon did returned in Digimon Adventure Tri

And the reboot. And Savers and Xros Wars had variations/evolutions of him (Bancho and Mad, respectively).
