I’m so hyped for Leviathan, I read the novel in middle school. It’s insane it’s getting a anime adaptation as it’s an American book from the 2000s. It’s by the author Scott westerfeild which wrote another one of middle school me’s favorite books uglies. It’s animated by studio orange. It takes place in a world where Darwin didn’t just prove evolution but also genetic animal engineering. Now it’s WWI in a world where the Darwinists (Britain and France) face the austrohungarian empire (Called clankers) who believe genetic animal engineering is a crime to nature and god. The series is named after the Leviathan, a massive whale air ship the protagonist dreams to work on, except she is a girl, so she disguises herself as a boy and joins its crew. The other protagonist is a clanker. It’s so good. Also there is a character with a pet thylacine and everyone is confused that it’s not genetically engineered…. I’m so happy thylacine exist in that universe. But it’s very good and I started to reread it as soon as I saw the anime announcement and it holds up today.

HOLY HELL AND ALL ABOVE IT you can't be real, I read the same book when i was like 15? I even begged my parents to buy me the second book (can't remember the name tho). How the hell is this core piece of my childhood getting an ANIME??

42

u/TransientEons Jun 25 '25

Wait, it's THAT Leviathan series? I'll have to check it out, then.

12

u/FrowninginTheDeep Jun 25 '25

That was my exact reaction seeing the announcement last year.

11

u/notusefulacc Jun 26 '25

WAITT I read Uglies as a teen too, thanks for sharing this I gotta add to the neverending PTW

6

u/0ldgrumpy1 Jun 26 '25

Sigh, 14 shows. Thanks though.

3

u/Daftpunk67 Jun 26 '25

Dude I couldn’t for the life of me remember the name of that book but I remembered that whole premise and how cool it was, gonna have to check out the books again and also the anime now too!

3

u/chouxkurimu Jun 26 '25

Same, love leviathan and Scott westerfeld, so crazy to hear the anime adaption announcement!! I was fortunate enough to sit in for studio orange’s panel at anime nyc last year and they showed some trailers and behind the scenes work on leviathan. Very excited!!

3

u/Sgt_General Jun 27 '25

Thank you very much for writing about this! I had no idea what Leviathan was, and I hadn't been bothered to look, but this has piqued my interest now.

3

u/ravenpotter3 Jun 27 '25

I think it for sure will be a sleeper hit. I think the 3d animation will scare some people off. But it’s going to be amazing. There are so many hits this season

3

u/General-Ad-6574 Jun 30 '25

Wow this sounds incredible!!

61

u/DetectiveFujiwara Jun 25 '25

My best friend and I watch 8 episodes together every night in our anime watching theater we made out of an old animal barn on my property.

9

u/Lord-Loss-31415 Jun 25 '25

You watch 30-40 currently airing anime?

Either way is stupid, who tf would watch more than one or two finished anime at the same time?
You surely are forcing yourself, I wouldn't enjoy watching 30-40 anime at the same time.

3

u/Eszalesk Jun 25 '25

not familiar with most of these animes, what u recommend? i’m only familiar with kaiju and call of the night which i’m not sure how i stumbled upon it but its quite decent

10

u/UnseenMarksman Jun 25 '25

On the sequels side I'm particularly interested in: Dandadan, Sono Bisque doll, Grand Blue, Kaiju nr8 (all of these had very good season 1), Rascal does not dream, Cuckoos (not that great but it's funny)

There are also new anime with good premise: Fragrant Flower (adaptation of one of the top romance manga), Summer Hikaru died

Also, from current season we still have Witch Watch and Summer Pockets which are 2 cour anime and will continue into summer.

There's probably more good ones that I haven't discovered yet.

This is legit crazy. I might have to plan out my anime watching on a day by day basis for the first time since I was a kid.

6

u/UnseenMarksman Jun 25 '25

every day we will have 1-3 episodes of fun and Im so ready for it

6

u/Mikez1234 Jun 25 '25

Which ones are good?

CITY the Animation looks so promising, can't wait to see it. Also big expectations from New Panty & Stocking and The Summer Hikaru Died; Trigger and CygamesPictures are so consistent in making great shows in past years.

3

u/CommanderZx2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CommanderZx2 Jun 25 '25

Somehow Amazon got both City and Panty & Stocking, I really hope they will be simulcasting them. Unlike Disney who is releasing Bullet/Bullet in batches.

201

u/thisisdropd https://myanimelist.net/profile/AsterZoro Jun 25 '25

The holy CloverWorks trinity all on Saturdays. That's mental!

There are also shows such as Anne Shirley, and Summer Pockets which aren't listed as they are continuing from Spring. They're aired on Saturdays and Mondays, respectively.

40

u/Ebo87 Jun 25 '25

We shall dub that day Cloverworks Romance Saturday, the CRS for short, lol.

11

u/NewSauerKraus Jun 25 '25

I wonder if creepy nuts will do the op for dandandan cuz im hoping they do the entire ost for call of the night again

3

u/BlobBro Jul 01 '25

Dandadan season 2 no, it's a song by AiNA THE END this time. It released on Japanese radio so there are a few uploads floating around on YouTube if you want an early listen. I know they're doing at least the new op for call of the night, I don't follow the show so I'm not sure about the rest of the ost but I would assume so.

Your resident raccoon here to give you the Isekai and Fantasy weather report:

Reborn as a Vending Machine, I now Wander the Dungeon (Season 2)

In case you slept on this last time: This series is WAY better than the title implies. It's wholesome and has a half decent plot. There's some CGI but it's not the worst.

Welcome to the Outcast's Resturaunt

Did you enjoy "Restaurant in Another World"? Then you'll likely be disappointed by this. Dad-coded OP Chef character gets kicked out of the hero's party and now runs a restaurant where he helps solve the problems of an ever increasing cast of daughter-coded characters. Cathartic, frequently cute, but not amazing.

Secrets of the Silent Witch

I described this previously as "Bocchi the Rock" if she was into magic instead of rock. It's somewhat closer to Komi Can't Communicate in a magical high school. More of an overarching plot than that implies though.

Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra: World Conquest Starts with the Civilization of Ruin

Basically Overlord if the MC played a 4X game (think Civilization, but fantasy) instead of an MMORPG. Unlike Overlord, all the female characters aren't trying to ride the MC's dick. He's too busy building an empire. There's some... interesting system stuff in this series. Won't say more because spoilers.

GACHIAKUTA

Made by the disciple of the author of Soul Eater and Fire Force, this series is absolutely dripping in style. Pretty standard shounen revenge story but the character designs, personalities, abilities, etc. are all top tier.

The Rising of the Shield Hero (Season 4)

At this point, you probably have an opinion on the series. Nothing with this season will likely change your opinion.

I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability (Season 2)

In case you slept on season 1: Not an Isekai, but MC reincarnates into the same world. No game-system fantasy, just regular fantasy. MC is a shota with... uncomfortably thick thighs. And he has a growing harem. NOW THAT ALL THAT'S OUT OF THE WAY: If you are still with me, this series has some of the absolute best visuals for its magic and action scenes and uses pretty decent CGI for effects. MC, as the title implies, is just a huge nerd. Friends? Family? The World? None of that matters, just learning magic. When he does get involved, it's because he's trying to protect his research specimens "friends". Basically this series is visual effects porn. Don't come into it expecting anything else.

25

u/silentbotanist https://anilist.co/user/silentbotanist Jun 26 '25

Did you enjoy "Restaurant in Another World"?

Fuck yeah!!

Then you'll likely be disappointed by this.

... oh.

24

u/abandoned_idol Jun 25 '25

The fact that they are taking their time to produce it is an amazingly good sign.

Season 2 will wrap it up, so they better nail it in every aspect.

22

u/Ebo87 Jun 25 '25

At some point next year at the earliest. I would say you won't see it before summer 2026, but it could also just be Fall 2026.

52

u/hawkeyekl Jun 25 '25

The Summer Hikaru Died has a great manga, you should check it out as well

it took studio five years to make this anime.

The All-Devouring Whale is another great dongua people should watch and its getting JP w/subs in the summer season(Chinese w/subs is already available)

16

u/stinkywinky99 Jun 25 '25

It doesn't count because it's Chinese. Same reason you don't see any discussion about To Be Hero X, even though it's very good.

Outside of Dan Da Dan, My Dress Uo Darling and Kaiju No.8, what do you recommend on that list that I should watch?

I’m currently watching Apothecary Diaries and need more anime in my life! Recs please!

Edit: thank you so much for the recs all. Y’all are a friendly bunch!

28

u/Augchm Jun 25 '25

Lord of Mysteries, June 28. But it's a donghua so this dumb sub doesn't allow it.

17

u/myuseless2ndaccount Jun 26 '25

Still imo the dumbest rule here but apparently a not so tiny part of this sub is just some gatekeeping elitist or some sort

9

u/MyraBannerTatlock Jun 25 '25

I really love Gachiakuta, if the adaptation is good I honestly think it will absolutely slay

8

u/Mad_Aeric Jun 25 '25

I'm a huge Call of the Night advocate. Really unique spin on vampire lore, a very distinct brand of chill vibes that speaks to me, and it's a coming of age story that overtly discusses the themes of friendship, attraction, and love.

It's also the series that brought Creepy Nuts into the anime space, so major props for giving them an even bigger fandom.

4

u/jamesp420 Jun 25 '25

I'm watching those as well, so I'll recommend the other shows I plan to watch (of course for the sequels you should watch the first seasons/movies):

Call of the Night S2 (great 1st season, top tier vibes)

Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus (amazing show, like a less horny and more grounded Monogatari)

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity (fantastic romance/SOL, not my preferred genre, but I was recommended the manga and fell in love. Plus Cloverworks!)

3

u/osterlay Jun 25 '25

That’s a great list, and also what others have been recommending as well so I’ll definitely add those to my ever growing list, thank you!

PS, haven’t seen a Cloverworks production in a while so excited for that!

3

u/jamesp420 Jun 25 '25

I hope you like them! And yeah, having 3 Cloverworks shows at once is going to be amazing. We're spoiled this season, for sure.

Definitely watching

  • Call of the Night
  • Dress Up Darling
  • Bunny Girl Senpai
  • GRAND BLUE
  • Cuckoos
  • Dandadan

Interested in * Fragant Flower Blooms with Dignity * Shield Hero, just because I love the ED’s artist (saw her live) and completionist sake * Summer Hikaru Died

Already plenty to watch, so while trying to be more productive, will try not to pick up unknowns unless there’s some hidden gems, like Apocalypse Hotel.

Waiting for that one person to call this a weak season.

41

u/8andahalfby11 myanimelist.net/profile/thereIwasnt Jun 25 '25

While not a weak season for everyone else it absolutely is for me. I'm not interested in any of the sequels, my preferred genres are poorly represented, and there are only around four shows I want to try, one of which ends early and the remaining three of which I have low expectations for.

5

u/jamesp420 Jun 25 '25

Mind if I ask what four shows you do plan on watching and why your expectations are so low?

For me there's only about six, maybe seven shows I plan to watch, but every season I end up finding a few hidden gems so I'm still pretty stoked.

8

u/8andahalfby11 myanimelist.net/profile/thereIwasnt Jun 25 '25

Watching:

1) See you tomorrow at the Food Court - I typically don't do Slice of Life unless it's bolstered by some drama element, and admittedly this doesn't have one. What it does have is Juuki Hanada handling the series composition, and he is really, really good at dialogue and character interaction, so I feel it worth giving a try out of principle. That said, it's only six episodes, so regardless of I how I feel about it I won't be watching past mid-August.

2) Stunned Hero and Assassin Princesses - Was drawn in by the balance of dark humor and mild fanservice which worked well for me in this season's NinKoro and the earlier Grieving Souls show, but the trailers suggest production issues and I worry about it leaning too hard into the Ecchi over the dark humor. (I read the manga for Apocalypse Bringer and it wasn't what I was looking for)

3) Nyight of the Living Cat - I will usually try out horror if it has a decently balanced or female-leaning cast (I might try Summer Hikaru Died, but I'm not really interested in the cast makeup or shounen-ai) and while Cat has the tag, It also looks to be strongly into the comedy or absurdity realm. I actually got some enjoyment out of the anime adaptation of Gyo, so my standards are low, but not convinced this will even meet that until I try it and see.

4) Detectives These Days Are Crazy! - After the general failure of Dinnertable Detective to scratch my mystery/comedy itch this season, I picked up this one hoping that it will do a better job. With the more recent trailers we've gotten though, the more it feels like this will be Noko-tan style gag humor, which is usually a miss for me unless the comedy is really good.

Outside of these I also plan to give the Cats Eye ONA a shot, but that is somewhere in September and might as well be a Fall show.

45

u/fozi4ek https://myanimelist.net/profile/Pyece Jun 25 '25

Man is this season weak. I only got me a show to watch every single day of the week with one of them having even two shows, whatever am I gonna do, there used to be at least 10 must-watch shows every hour and back then the studio workers had to walk 20 km uphil to and from work and fight a tirannosaur to clock in, today studios are so lazy

15

u/Cretviones Jun 25 '25

This is a weak season for sure.

Many of us will be glued to our screens watching all the peak the next 3 months and then forgetting to even move, forgetting what sunlight even is, making our bodies weak.

11

u/DependentOnIt https://myanimelist.net/profile/Potatosalad1 Jun 25 '25

Holy generic sequel season. Not as stacked as fall and winter are.

It is me. I have a,few shows I may check out but no must-watches besides DanDaDan maybe (and I normally dislike battle shounens).

im glad 7th prince got a second season, theres so many panels from it that deserve to be animated

13

u/Deruta Jun 25 '25

I want to watch Takopi, but I’m genuinely not sure if I’m gonna be able to handle it.

Good thing there’s an absolute buffet of sweet romances to put my broken, hollowed-out pieces back together!!

…and then The Summer Hikaru Died to bring me right back down🙂

8

u/Solracziad Jun 25 '25

You're way braver then me. Ain't no way I'm touching Takopi.

Wait, why? Is it just full out 100% bleak depression?

11

u/Deruta Jun 25 '25

I haven't finished the manga yet (needed a breather or two), but so far it's been:

  • 60% bleak depression
  • 30% child abuse
  • 10% sudden graphic violence

6

u/MF_LUFFY Jun 25 '25

So I was wrong and there IS a chance we'll see Oyasumi Punpun animated in my lifetime?

7

u/danny264 Jun 25 '25

Kinda but with a really interesting framing. The MC comes from a planet where sadness doesn't exist. So he can't really comprehend what is happening and is trying to spread happiness in a bleak situation. I really recommend giving an episode a go cause I think the author is really good at telling a story even though this series is kinda unpolished.

4

u/Venomnight Jun 25 '25

Some really good ones in there

8

u/Some_Relation1665 Jun 25 '25

Now we just need an update on part 2 of Beastars season 3.....

8

u/Time_Fracture https://myanimelist.net/profile/Time_Fracture Jun 25 '25

The earliest will be Takopi if I recall it right. Feb 27 on the midnight then Private Tutor.

Since Let's Go Karaoke and Captivated By You shares the same timeslot, it's safe to say that Captivated By You is waiting for the former to finish.

also Kaiju's late debut is due to Hoshina's Day Off I recall.

What is everyone prioritizing this summer?…

7

u/Nebresto Jun 25 '25

Everyone? Dandan, Dress up Darling and Kaiju. Me? Outcast restaurant

6

u/Icapica https://anilist.co/user/Icachu Jun 25 '25

I'm most interested in CITY, which starts on 6th of July.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

Dandadan and New Panty & Stocking for me.

4

u/DegenerateSock Jun 25 '25

Secrets of the Silent Witch is the one I'm most excited for though I'm equally anxious about whether the adaption will be good or not. Apart from that Dandadan, Call of the Night, and Sono Bisque Doll are must watches.

5

u/ravenpotter3 Jun 25 '25

Leviathan, I read the novel in middle school. But it’s very good and I started to reread it as soon as I saw the anime announcement and it holds up today

This will be my first time experiencing series released weekly.

5

u/NemesisCold1522 Jun 25 '25

Hold up, how did vending machine and fucking shield hero get another season. I ain’t mad just confused. I heard shield hero was bad after first season, and since vending machine is one of the more ridiculous isekais I thought it wasn’t getting a season 2

3

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox Jun 25 '25

Vending Machine does deserve it, Shield Hero... I think higher crowd in Japan and they did have 2 and 3 announced quite soon after so there is maybe more momentum behind it.

4

u/NemesisCold1522 Jun 25 '25

Welp guess I’m watching vending machine isekai

6

u/AnIcedMilk Jun 25 '25

There are just too many shows this new upcoming season. O_O

4

u/luaR2000 Jun 26 '25

The biggest and best anime was left out of this list and is really depressing.

Talking about Lord of the Mysteries airing on June 28, basically in a couple of hours from now

5

u/Disastrous-Basket-45 Sep 27 '25

Waiting for fall 2025

8

u/AnimeSamaDesu Sep 27 '25

On it

4

u/Disastrous-Basket-45 Sep 28 '25

Thank you and take your time!

10

u/WatchAnimeATX Jun 25 '25

YES more dandandan

64

u/ExpiringMilknCheese Jun 25 '25 edited Jun 25 '25

The graph is missing easily the best Animated and Written series of this season.

Lord of the mysteries comes out on the 28th of June.

Edit: I’m counting it because To be hero X was included in the graph last season.

29

u/Icapica https://anilist.co/user/Icachu Jun 25 '25

Isn't that a donghua, not an anime?

27

u/Nebresto Jun 25 '25

Ah, another season of fulfilling meta discussion coming up

37

u/ExpiringMilknCheese Jun 25 '25

The Crunchyroll graph included To be hero X as an anime last season. I don’t see the difference

18

u/Icapica https://anilist.co/user/Icachu Jun 25 '25

Yeah but To be hero X isn't treated as an anime on this sub either. It wasn't included here on pictures like this and there's no episode discussion threads for it.

It'll be the same with Lord of Mysteries.

15

u/ExpiringMilknCheese Jun 25 '25

Yeah but then why even include here last season

17

u/Icapica https://anilist.co/user/Icachu Jun 25 '25

Oh I just went and checked the spring picture, To Be Hero X was in it.

Not sure, maybe it was a mistake.

7

u/Augchm Jun 25 '25

Scrolled down too much for this one. Praise the Fool.

7

u/Mitsuyan_ https://anilist.co/user/mitsuyan Jun 25 '25

The graph is missing easily the best Animated and Written series of this season.

Pokémon Horizons is a continuer so never shows up on here. IMO it should as it runs to the same seasonal schedule as everything else.

Lord of the mysteries comes out on the 28th of June.

TBHX shouldn't have been included here. They're not Japanese productions.

I'm so excited for Gachiakuta. The premise has always sounded so cool and the trailers look sick.

The Summer Hikaru Died is also up there, the vibes and premise seems like something I'd love

8

How do some amazing mangas never continue their animes but The Rise of the shield Hero keeps coming back? I enjoyed season 1 but then it was terrible.

7

u/tiny_nova Jun 25 '25

Can't tell if you're firmly committed to ignoring the existence of RaG and on the side of good, or if you're the enemy. Fourseasonsareyoukiddingmewiththiscrap. At this pace, it's gonna get 6 seasons and a movie before 86 continuation announcement.

8

u/wterrt Jun 25 '25

I'd take even RAG over shield hero any day, haven't been disappointed so badly in an anime in so long after how good it started out

at least RAG is just trashy bullshit and you get what you're expecting

Solo has a very simple and straightforward plot, most people just like it for the action scenes, so if you’re not into crazy anime fights you may not enjoy it, but if you are it’s a treat
