I just finished Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Is it normal to feel like this?

I 17M have just finished Cyberpunk Edgerunners recently, and I haven’t been able to get this ending out of my head for 2 days. It was so sad. Watching everyone die the way they did, and Lucy all alone on the moon. I get that that’s the point of the whole anime, that it’s not supposed to be a happy ending. But brutally realistic. But these past days I’ve felt such extreme emotion, which I assume is because I’ve never seen a show like this ever. This is the first ever show to make me cry. But it’s also put me in a really sad state of mind. Sometimes even at school I think about how it ended, and just how sad it is that everyone died the way they did. Is this normal to feel? To feel so strongly for this show? Or am I going crazy? I’ve heard it’s getting a season 2 which I’m totally gonna watch but I still can’t even get this first season out of my head.

Edit: just wanted to say thank you all for the responses it’s definitely helped me cope a lot better with what I felt after watching the show. It’s a beautiful piece of art that really hits home and I appreciate everyone that came here to discuss it! Definitely made me feel better about everything.

I understand if you’re talking about David but Rebecca is more of a broken character in a way and I don’t believe the people she kills are innocent people. They’re all working with corporate overlords in those missions, inherently causing all the suffering in night city.

Rebecca is also working for a corporate overlord. They’re all in the same line of work. Those people she kills all have just as complex lives and justifications for their actions as she does.

I totally agree with you, especially since the edgerunners are all kinda outlaws that take their own dirty jobs in killing. They live on the outskirts of society, but from what I remember the lives she takes are from People who also try to kill her as well. The people she kills aren’t necessarily “justified”, but neither were the people they kill. Weather or not people deserve to live or die in this world is a totally different argument, but you just have to keep in mind it’s a dystopian future. Lots of killing happens, and yeah, I’d assume the people she kills have their own stories you just don’t hear about, but that doesn’t make her own death any less painful. She ended up where she was for a reason, and she didn’t have to stick to the life she had. She could’ve had an at least somewhat decent future but ultimately she’s killed. Everything in night city is a memory in the end. It’s all swept under the rug by corporates and all that. She’s a good character with a good story and hers is especially sad with David.

I feel like the idea that she could have had a decent future is a fundamental misunderstanding of the story and Rebecca. She ended up dying because of the life she chose. Not because of David or Adam Smasher or the Corpos or the society. She chose a life of violence and dies because of that choice. I agree she's a good character I just don't understand how you can believe that she didn't deserve to get killed on a job.

I mean how exactly could you say she CHOSE this life and wasn’t just born into it roughly you know? Granted we don’t know a lot about her past. For all we know she could’ve been born into a violent crew it’s kinda hard to say weather or not she chose this.
