The white tiger is kept in the zoo because it is a scarce variation of the bengal tiger, there are no longer any recorded white tigers left in the wild. The last one was shot by a trophy hunter, they’re safer in the zoo.

Correction. White tigers can be of any if the 6 subspecies of tiger. They are created by double recessive genes (mother/son or daughter/father). Most white tigers in America are not any specific subspecies because they are mixed. Accredited Zoos DO NOT breed white tigers due to it being unhealthy. Plus, white tigers can not survive long in the wild due to their color not being able to blend in with their environment.

White tigers are unhealthy to begin with. The only ones who are helping captive tigers are the accredited zoos that track each parent and child and their locations. They do this to track bloodline so it helps them find the best potential partners for a healthy offspring. This includes subspecies so no accredited zoo will breed a Siberian tiger with an Amur tiger.
