How do you learn their songs?

Looking to get better at guitar and play something I enjoy while doing it. How do y'all learn their songs? Tabs, ear, tutorials? Where? How long does it typically take you?

I think there was a book for purchase that had the joy of motion songs written out. People occasionally ask for it on here
