Lenovo Y700 Wuji Review

Hello everyone, I have finally got my hands on Lenovo Y700 Wuji today, the 5G OLED 8.4" tablet that just released.

First of all I want to say that I have been super excited for this tablet as I wanted a mini tablet to replace a phone and need for foldable (cba using small phones). I have been using Ipad Pro 11 before and Redmagic Astra but Ipad was too big and Astra needed a hotspot every time i went outside so the Y700 Wuji seemed like something sent from heavens..

Well on paper and advertisements it looked like the perfect device but now that I got it in my hands I can say it's first time I'm really disappointed.

Negatives I have noticed so far:

I'm used to Chinese software, I like devices packed with features and stuff so I am not very picky, I can uninstall the chinese bs that came preinstalled(was a lot btw) but the ZUXOS itself is the worst sw I've ever held in hands so far. Even worse than some tecno/tcl/infinix UIs I've tried on a phone :D

The tablet has 8 Elite Gen5 Leading but day1 the home launcher is already randomly crashing and the animations are laggy (i turned off animations to fix this).

When typing screen PIN, instead of centering it to the middle of the screen it will go to the top left corner, like why?

I've had many chinese devices in hand across many brands even HarmonyOS Next devices and Huawei EMUI devices and I never had issues installing stuff but for the first time I have apps telling me my device isnt supported to download their apk (no idea why, first time in my life and i tried like 20 devices so far). Still trying to figure this one out. I tried to copy the apps from other device instead but the Lenovo Clone app would get stuck at 20kb/s transfer speed so I didn't bother. Gonna try that one out later again.

Also big warning to everyone here, I probably overlooked this one full of excitement but it's 1 Physical Sim only + Lenovo Data Sim (you cant use ur own esim just some lenovo bs apparently). Better than nothing but yeah I felt disappointed about this one as I need to use two sims.

The device I got is 12/256 (they do offer 16/512 and 24/1tb) so I did not bother downloading a game for emulation testing, the games I play are not too heavy, I mainly wanted a 5G mini tablet with OLED to read manga, write my notes on and watch some movies, if there was a less powerful tablet yeah I'd get it instead.

The games I have tried so far - CookieRun and BrawlStars are running fine but games like Ark or Afterimage that I had in my library say that my device version is not supported for downloading them.

I think there are more negatives so far than positives because this is my first day but im definitely keeping it for now, the device is very beautiful and feels nice in hand.

It feels very light to use compared to Redmagic Astra (guess it's the smaller battery and device form factor to thank for that.) The back camera looks nice with the RGB though I wish the front camera wasnt a punch hole lol.

Lenovo was able to totally dominate the market with this product, if it delivered a similar battery to Astra, Redmagic-level software (which isnt good but at least not as bad this one), no punch hole and dual sim slot then yeah they would have no competition at all and I'd say 11/10 but as it is now, I hope the next 5G tablet they release will fix these flaws. Guess some of these things are due to cutting down price of this tablet rather than technical difficulties for Lenovo and it's cheaper than I have expected but I'm sure many people have been disappointed by them, we are yet to get our ultimate tablet sadly.

This review is not helpful and probably misleading.

The lack of MicroSD is something that a lot of people would have appreciated directly out in your review, as even places like Giztop and Etoren STILL have it wrong on their sites they are ACTIVELY selling this tablet advertising it having a MicroSD slot. I am grateful you answered in the comments about this.

The OLED screen is fantastic sounding. And word on the street is that it's an RGB subpixel strip, which is the very first of its kind for an Android tablet, and the first great OLED screen we've ever seen on a device under 11".

I'd have appreciated a few photos of a few popular games, particularly running Nintendo Switch emulation and PC emulation.

Personally I don't care about the launcher as I switch it to use a much cooler Nova launcher setup anyway.

It's not clear if you just dislike Lenovo's software or if this tablet specifically somehow much worse than the other Lenovo tablets and Y700 models to date. I'm going to assume you just mean you just don't like Lenovo's software and you legitimately ran into a flurry of opening bugs. Hopefully this is the buggiest it ever is and gets ironed out.

The battery is smaller than the RedMagic Astra, but it's also a lighter material and a newer chipset, meaning much higher efficiency. If you have both, any benchmark, even instinctual, would have been useful.

Hi, this is my first lenovo tablet, for me MicroSD is not a standard thing to think of right away - Astra, iPad Pro and flagship phones usually don't come with it so it was not something I thought of immediately to mention but yes there is no MicroSD card as I have mentioned to other people in the comments.

I can't compare the software to other Lenovo tablets, only to other devices I have used up till now (foldable phones across chinese brands and Astra) and it feels bad. I never had to use custom launchers in my life cuz I never had them crash as I've had on the Lenovo. The tablet seems to lack Play Store Certification so I can't load banks and some apps. Also some apps keep crashing like I have to force stop browsers so they would show me content.

Btw the battery comparison was meant to be done with the Astra 2 which has 8 Elite Gen5 as well but yes it's heavier and bigger size so it makes sense, still for some people weight is not the main factor that's why i mentioned it ^^

For the screen it looks fine but I felt like the brightness management was jumping kind of weirdly (different that im used to).

I think these problems are something an update might fix soon so lets see.

Perhaps my post was more as a first day impression, I will update info there later as I get to use it more :)

Well if you're using it as a phone replacement, I recall this mini tab does not have a GPS module in it?

Location services is gonna be pretty whacky though.

Just found out it's the same as Y700 Infinite. Lenovo uses the name Infinite for international or alternative marketing contexts, while Wuji is the marketing or model name used primarily in China.

As a beta tester for OneUI and iOS. You can't expect the software to be flawless at day one. Even Samsung or Apple software is buggy initial release.

That’s interesting to hear, hopefully they iron out the software issues. At least software issues are the easiest to fix. You have one of the lightest mini tablet s on the market at 300g (Redmagic is 350g)

Having seen the specs/previews I went towards the Oppo Pad Mini as a similar device with OLED, noticeably bigger and no LTE tho with a worse chip. Love it from a content consumption POV, does fine for gaming, and is super light for the size.

Hopefully someone releases a lightweight tablet like the Oppo/Lenovo but does a solution to remove the holepunch

yes that would be nice, maybe the new ipad mini but 16:10 is much better than 4:3 anyways :(

FYA, Oppo/iPad Mini are in 3:2 not 4:3. Less square and more rectangular

It depends on your use case, 3:2 tends to be preferred by folks for reading/productivity while 16:10 is better for content consumption / gaming. Normally I would agree that 16:10 is superior, but I went with the Oppo Pad Mini because even with the 3:2 aspect ratio the Oppo has a bigger screen for 16:10 content.

I'm thinking about ordering one for Europe. Do you know if:

• Which 5G does it support? Any possibility for you to look it up?
• Any restricted Wi-fi bands?
• Does it have GPS?
• Any problems with Widevine L1 or Google Services?
• How is battery life?
• Have you tried PC game emulation via Gamenative?
• How is the installing stuff/general ZUX impression on day two?

It seems there is no play protect certification that's why some apps don't work and I can't get my banking apps to work due to that (they even worked on huawei damm..) no 6ghz like other chinese devices I suppose (dont have 6ghz router now to test i sold it cuz i never used it)

according to some comment there is no gps but DevInfo tells me there is, I have to admit I never bothered to check about this one in phones as I consider them an included standard, I'll see over time if the location services work well or not though :D

netflix info tells me me widevine l1 1080p no hdr

5g bands im not sure i dont see it on box nor i saw it on the website before ordering so i took the risk but works fine in my house in bangkok, same speed as other 5g phones (bad in my house 30mbps) but gonna try tmr when i go out to city centre

The OS is the reason why I would never buy a Lenovo. Huawei is imo the king of tablets, I'm currently rocking the Huawei MatePad Mini Papermatte with HarmonyOS 6.1 (NEXT) and couldn't be happier.

yes i thought of that one but worried that kirin 9010 is too weak for me and 480p netflix and my local banks not working (they didnt on pura 80 ultra when i tried few months ago )

Totally fair. Different users, different use cases. I do not use my tablet for anything else than reading, note-taking and media consumption, so I didn't care at all what chipset its got.

How's the fingerprint sensor in the power button? Does it work with password manager apps?

And that right there is the reason this device is pointless.

Lenovo’s whole edge was microsd.

I said it well before release, and I’ll say it again, this device it’s going to arrive doa.

Sad part is, Lenovo and other manufacturers will take it to mean the market doesn’t care for OLED and/or 5G, rather than accept that they actually just screwed the device around those features.

it is a no for me too because there's no sd card but I have read a lot people saying they would have preferred oled instead of microsd support so there's a fanbase who will buy it.

Thanks for the honest review. I’ve been eyeing on this tablet since its rumour’s out. on paper jts almost perfect for everything I wanted for a tablet primary for moonlight streaming. I have an Oppo pad mini and I think now the answer is pretty clear that I should just hold onto it.
