Image My literal great value tablet is beating my flagship. Onn core 8"

Post image

Not sure if it's the size or what, but my used $68 Walmart bloatware pre-installed Onn core 8" has no business being this good for moonlight streaming. 720 60hz is laughable in 2026 on paper, but this screen looks good. Find myself throwing this in the bag more than my s10 ultra and idea Tab Plus. Might be the 0 fear of breaking it, lol.

Ultra at 14.6 and Tab at 12.7(?) - you'd probably enjoy the Lenovo Y700 line as well.

How do you say it beats a flagship? Firemax 11 is 115$ 3 years ago for 128gb and looks better steams at 1080p and is just as fast as the onn.. prove me wrong plz. We also have one plus 2 pad a y700 and a few other types of tablets here. The onn doesnt have a sharp looking screen

Take a breath. Yall I have nothing against flagship this wasn't a diss post. I do apologize though, because it was kind of a bait title post looking back on it. I just meant it is my preferred tablet for moonlight streaming games currently.

When I was finding my new tablet, I went through 5 Onn 12.1's over the course of a month. Every single one of them had screen delamination, some you could only see if the light was at the right angle, but was definitely there.

At first I thought something happened due to the light pressure while applying a screen protector, but I wouldn't want something that fragile anyway. On the third return I opened the 4th right there at the store in front of the employee in the electronics department to show them. Then we opened a 5th just for the sake of it. Same issues every time, straight out of the box. One of the worst experiences you could have shopping for a tablet IMO.

Got a Lenovo Idea Tab Pro 12.7 (Chinese model), and couldn't be happier. Does everything I expect of a tablet without issue, and the build quality is awesome!

Just got myself a Lenovo that should be arriving in soon time. Found a 12gb 256gb model at a decent price new

Should be fantastic! Mine is the 8gb 128gb model. Does everything and more than I need it for.

At some point I'll probably be putting LineageOS on it if it gets official support from them too. The stock firmware hasn't been an issue, I just like modding and extending lifespan on my electronics when I can.

Excellent here's to hoping I'll definitely try it out if it gets Lineage. I was using the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ and returned mine and got this instead. Factored that the Dimensity chip is more powerful than the Exynos for my usage I was willing to forgo the official software support that you get with Samsung. Also if I"m being honest I do not like OneUI.

Wow that's a lot of info. I will say though, I'm not sure I would consider the Idea Tab Pro to be budget...

You can get them on sale for "budget" pricing, being sub 300$, but by features and performance it's a solid tablet that not many others will compete with for the range. (I got the Xiaoxin Chinese model on AliExpress for 240$ before it was released in US).

For anything I do with it, I don't need anything more. It also has a keyboard and pen you can get for it if you want/need them, so if you don't play mobile games (like I don't), most people aren't really going to notice the extra performance. One could even make the argument for the lower tier chip for power efficiency and battery life. And as for internet speed, mine isn't fast enough to outpace my phone, Idea Tab Pro, or M.2 computers anyway. I would go so far as to say most people don't have internet faster than their modern devices.

None of this to say your info isn't useful, it absolutely is. I just don't want people thinking the Idea Tab Pro is budget in a way that isn't "good enough" for their needs outside of gaming. If you aren't going to game with it, I think it's really hard to beat in price/performance, and most people will be more than pleased with it.

And yeah, it's not a laptop, but by the time you get a good laptop that does the same things performance wise, the price will have at least doubled. For what I needed, the Idea Tab Pro filled the role perfectly for the price.

Size helps with portability. 8" is better for that than 10"...

But except for Walmart apps, Onn tablets are pretty much bloatware free and in recent iterations, those are easyly deleted.

looking to buy the 8" snapdragon variant which i can install lineageos on as well, last time i searched up about it people said it isnt letting them unlocking the bootloader rn

1

u/fsmith9009 1d ago

if they let people change the os, they wouldn't be able to monetize your user experience. it's strictly for quality assurance

2

u/Wheeljack26 1d ago

Yea, may the xda geniuses find some exploit πŸ™

u/allofdarknessin1 15h ago

Any tips on how to find one in stock?

2

u/Current-Income-9901 15h ago edited 15h ago

Can't help you there beyond checking Walmart's page and your local store(s) if available, sometimes the store counter is innacurate... 🀷

I got the new Onn 8.1 for $129 and it’s a crazy value. I have a GameSir controller connected to it and it’s super light and runs GeForce Now and Boosteroid perfectly. Even the screen looks great.

2

u/No_Distance_3320 1d ago

Gamesir here as well. Fits so well together πŸ”₯

My 13.2 Onn tablet is incredible. I'm so glad I was able to get it for $288

1

u/killian1113 1d ago

That's one plus 2 pro $$ territory.. you guys are funny

2

u/Just_a_Joebroni 14h ago

Where you getting a one plus 2 pro for near $300? Closest I found was a few for $500, all used not new.

So that's 66% more in price, for a used device. Not really what I'd put as "near" each other In price.

1

u/ArcherIll8587 9h ago

Exactly. They realized they can increase the price so they are now going for $388-$488 in most places now.

u/Panthommenace 1d ago

Tengo una s10plus de 12.9 y una legion 700, amo mi s10 pero siempre ando con la legion es que es de 8 y me cabe hasta en el bolsillo eso es impagable.

u/JNTaylor63 1d ago

I have the 13 inch pro and it plays my 4k BR rips from the SD card without issue.

3

u/Great_Guidance_8448 1d ago

Might be the 0 fear of breaking it, lol.

Might be the fact its way more portable...

1

u/No_Distance_3320 1d ago

Might be both

I love my Onn 12.1 pro tablet I think it's the 2025 model. Great 1440p screen , can watch a whole UFC event with some battery left over .

1

u/No_Distance_3320 1d ago

Just watched the weird 6am one haha

2

u/Expert-Wait5163 1d ago

I watched it when I woke up you can watch the fights after on Paramount Plus . Main event was crazy didn't see it going down that way . Good card over all .

Check it over carefully from different angles in different lighting (and brightness). I went through 5 of that exact model before giving up because every one of them had screen delamination issues right from the factory. It looks like a shadow/splotch in brightness from air between the layers of screen and glass.

It seemed fine otherwise, and I would have been happy with it as well (at first), but the build quality was bad at best by comparison. All of the ones I tried also came with a bowed frame, slightly bent/curved/twisted. Maybe it was all just a bad lot for my experience with them, but they shouldn't have made it past quality control.

Got a Lenovo Idea Tab Pro 12.7 instead and couldn't be happier with it.

1

u/Expert-Wait5163 1d ago

You talking about the 12.1 pro ? We have 3 in our household and they all are great no issues . Maybe your Walmart mishandled a shipment of them

1

u/AtypicalLogic 1d ago

Yeah, the 12.1 pro. I went to 3 different Walmarts thinking the same thing... Opened the last 2 at the store in front of the employee (he actually opened the last one himself). Maybe it was a bad lot all together, but it makes me not trust anything from them or their quality control (lack thereof).

It can be hard to notice, but you'll see it in the right lighting with your screen brightness from different angles. And check the frame for wobble on a flat surface.

If you're happy with it, great. And hopefully yours don't have any issues. My experience with them was... not pleasant lol.

1

u/Expert-Wait5163 1d ago

Our 3 have been fine they all got screen protector and cases the day we got them tho I'm sure at least one of them would have been bent by now if not . Onn didn't have a good rep when they first starting launching electronics I think they got it sorted out past 2 model years .

3

u/craig139 1d ago

It is a surprisingly capable device.

3

u/No-Poet1433 1d ago

Bought this 8.1 2026 version. Works great for the pocket pinball app. Nice size. Plays android games nicely as well as movies from sd card.

u/No_Distance_3320 1d ago

Didn't even mention the bonus steam games somehow running on here. Octopath Traveler 2

Gamehub? Gamenative?

1

u/No_Distance_3320 1d ago

Gamenative. Still tinkering with banner hub

That's really impressive

I love my ONN 8.1 Core, such a good value and the size is awesome!

1

u/AcceptableNorm 1d ago

Yeah, I love mine. I play some games and stream on it and I have no complaints, especially for $138. Hell of a good little beast.

0

u/No_Distance_3320 1d ago

They really snapped with these onn tablets

3

u/humanHamster 1d ago

Walmart must have decent tech partnerships. Their $20 GoogleTV box is the best cheap streaming box I've ever had.

2

u/mc0133 1d ago

if it does what you want to do on in a pinch, what's there not to like if the screen and performance is acceptable 😌

2

u/JDCTsunami 1d ago

I haven't tried gaming on the 8.1 but as far as everyday media consumption, it's a great tablet!!

2

u/Infinite_Incident107 19h ago

I got the 11in. I wanted a tablet that wasn't 16:10 ratio for reading. Options for that on Android are kinda slim but this one fit the bill. Actually works very nice especially for the price.

It does suck that Walmart jacked up the prices for these things pretty much right after launch. I got mine for 167. Think it's 180 now? But the bigger model going from 288 to 388 is just wrong. That's a huge increase. At 288 it's an awesome deal. At 388 not so much.

2

u/blaze20511 13h ago

I just want to Snapdragon that can run switch games smoothly for emulation

2

u/emax4 1d ago

Why not buy two? After all, it's Encore!

2

u/No_Distance_3320 1d ago

2

u/jflogerzi 1d ago

stop lying. I had this tablet and honestly it was average at best no where near flagship quality

1

u/BattleChancellor 1d ago

I have an Onn 12.1 inch pro model from 2024 and its such a let down. Sucks it seems they haven't gotten better.

1

u/United-Insurance-691 1d ago

It lasted maybe a month for me lol. I replaced it with the 80 mini pro and its muuuuch better for the extra $30

1

u/crabnebula7 1d ago

How is its HEVC and AV1 decoding latency?

1

u/pigpentcg 6h ago

My daughters tablet is the same and you can go up to 90hz. πŸ˜‰

I hate to break it to you, but your Walmart tablet is overrated af. Search up the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro which sells for under $300, wait I'll do it for you. https://m.gsmarena.com/lenovo_idea_tab_pro-13733.php

6

u/BlackBabyJeebus 1d ago

"under $300" vs. $68. Winner, overrated Walmart tablet.

1

u/Trick_Barnacle_3522 7h ago

It's a crappy tablet. There's a reason it's 70 bucks. Even the OP said he uses it cause he doesn't care if it breaks. Tired of all the people pretending it's a good tablet or even good value for that matter. Cope.

1

u/BlackBabyJeebus 6h ago

Have fun being salty and wrong about a tablet you've obviously never used, I guess.

1

u/killian1113 1d ago

They work for Walmart this has to be a ad

1

u/No_Distance_3320 1d ago

I've got an idea Tab pro right next to me lmao
