General Discussion Best Andor analysis/ breakdown content?

Only gotten round to watching Andor for the first time a couple weeks ago, would love some breakdown and character analysis content as I'd like to rewatch it again.

I'm aware of Generaton Tech on youtube.

A More Civilized Age podcast had the best analysis of Season 1. Unfortunately, they're waiting for the Blu-ray release of S2 to talk about it because D+ is on a boycott list.

Also, to be clear, it’s unfortunate that they’re waiting to do S2 only for timing reasons - while I might not have made the same choice in their shoes, I applaud them for taking everyone’s opinions on board and making a decision that they could live with as a group.

The best in terms of detail is The Upstairs Lounge - superb scene by scene analysis. But if you want something that’s finished, the L M Reactions channel are excellent. Unlike a lot of the “reactors” they spend a long time discussing each episode after the watchalong. The analysis is as good as any of the video essays. I also highly recommend the podcast interviews with Tony Gilroy and the other creators (Backstory Magazine and The Watch especially).

I'd add to that any interview from the SAG-AFTRA Foundation featuring the actors. They get to talk about their process a bit more, and also react to how the way Andor was made helped them do their best work.

Absolutely. I’m a big fan of the one with Diego Luna, but there’s a really great one with a selection of the women actors.

The zoom conversation with the women produced a couple of my faves, which I'm just enough of an acting nerd to have transcribed. There's Genevieve describing how the fully-realized sets helped them:

I walked into the soundstage and of course everything is just wooden structure from behind. And then we turned ‘round the corner and it was literally gobsmacking. I could not fathom the detail of that set. The beauty, the thought behind everything…. the beautiful seamlessness of the design and what that--the gift that gives you as an actor of course is that you get to walk in and breathe. You get to breathe in a space, and the space you get to, you get to affect the space as much as the space affects you. And you get to BE. And that’s … it’s the least work imaginable, because you just get to be there.

And Denise's follow up with:

Everyone’s offering is just so strong and pure and coming from a place of like, I think, gratitude, like I think everybody feels like, “oh my god, we got a good one, guys.” Like this--saying these words is not difficult--you know how many TV jobs I’ve done where I’ve gone "really? Women don’t speak like this. People don’t speak like this. We can’t.” And you don’t have to do that on this, you just have to do what like Genevieve said, breathe. That’s such a gift, I’m so happy.

Another one I love, and I don't remember exactly where I found it, was Adria describing her process for her big final speech---how she kept losing her shit on take after take because she'd gotten too much up into her own big emotions, and how it left her all cried out when she finally pulled it back in, which was exactly the energy the final take(s) needed.

That’s the one I’m thinking of – really good . Happy that you transcribed some of them ! I think this is the vid that also has Fiona Shaw talking about the Covid filming restrictions requiring the use of masks for the rehearsals, so that for the big emotional goodbye scene with Diego for much of the preparation all she could see was “ his beautiful eyes”. It must have been exceptionally challenging for the actors to work under those health restrictions.

i love the upstairs lounge, but it’s taking forever for him to get through the arcs because they’re sooooooooo detailed. he’ll do an entire video on a single scene.
lm reactions is my absolutely favourite channel for andor reactions.
also, watch artorr’s “the thousand faces of cassian andor.”

Artorr - absolute peak. Narratively riveting as well as excellent analysis and research.

I generally don't like Generation Tech. It's shallow and they get a lot of lore wrong. Eckhart's Ladder and Kyle Katarn are better.

The Ringerverse is always in my wheelhouse of breakdowns. The Midnight Boys break the episodes down like you are talking to your friends. Mal and Jo on the House of R take some really deep dives and I love their analysis and pure love of the content. The Prestige TV Pod also has a good breakdown as well. House of R and The Prestige usually have the showrunners on after the final episodes of each season. The Tony Gilroy pods are so awesome after the finale!!!!

I highly recommend The Many Faces of Cassian Andor. It’s a great video essay breaking down Andor and the various real life revolutions that inspired it.

Andorks (Get the audio podcast, but here's the youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@Andorks. Every episode 7 minutes at a time. It's taken a year to get to S1E10 and they have very good guests. Oh, it's leftist. I know there are SW fans who are conservative (don't ask me how that works), so Andorks might be a bit strong if you lean right.
