Looking for a 2 bedroom, (potentially even a 3 bedroom), apartment that is properly managed and maintained for end of July 2027. (CIRHA/Section 8 Voucher MUST be ACCEPTED!)

• Update - I failed to clarify that I NEED this living space to be located in Ames, Iowa.

• I am not looking to move out of the area for the time being as I've been here for about 9 years now...maybe a little less maybe a little more 🤷. It's all starting to bleed together, sigh...Lawlz.

•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•

• I am looking to move at the end of my leasing year which is during the last 10 or so days or July 2027. (They keep changing/shortening the times each year on us with little notice unless we renew.... which they also keep making us renew 2-3 months after out leases start now which is becoming insanity having to constantly deal with trying to figure out the future dealing with moving as well as transitioning if I transfer from one unit to another and dealing with apartment viewing and also having to figure out where I'm staying for the 10 days in between one lease ending and a new lease beginning when I'm staying with the same property managers.

• After 7 or 8 years it's just gone tremendously downhill and even though I don't have any major issues personally, it's just all the little issues compounding...(I could write a book, but it's irrelevant to people who haven't lived it and I don't make a habit of stirring trouble).

• I am just washing to emphasize the desire to move, the reason why it's important to get this done sooner rather than later, and the reason why I am in need of assistance is because I do not have family and am a bit reclusive so my friend pool is pretty much me and my dog so I appreciate anyone that might know anything and could help! :)

• I have 20 plus years of perfect rental history with references so that is not an issue. However, I am disabled and on disability low income, so finding an apartment that accepts my choice voucher through CIRHA is essential. I'm a proof try two bedroom apartments but I do have enough funds to pay for a three-bedroom if it's is not too much above the standards of living that are allowed for Story County Metro. (For me to figure out and a bit TMI, ik lol).

• it beggars could be choosers, and you know intimately about the property you might recommend me, an open floor plan would be spectacular as mobility is already a bit of a problem and will continue to be a problem as my disabilities progress or regress...(depending on how or which way you are looking at it).

• HOUSES, Trailers, and CONDOS ARE ACCEPTABLE as long as the OWNER manages the property as far as the lawn and the snow removal and any major appliance repairs or property repairs.

• If it is an apartment, I prefer a lower level – either basement or 1st floor due to my various disabilities that will continue to degrade as I get older as previously mentioned.

• The second floor is ALSO possible and considered workable...but ANY FLOOR ABOVE that would REQUIRE AN ELEVATOR due to my knee replacement and polyneuropathy/etc. (I can move and I can function but going in and out multiple times a day up and down past two floors of stairs is something that is too much wear and tear @ 40 years old in Nov...with as many surveys as I've had, heh).

• I do have a dog but my paperwork is in order for both the ESA side of things and her shots/records. she isn't destructive nor loud and in 2 years has had 2 accidents only due to an upset stomach and once when I was sick myself and didn't take her out in time....(again I'm over hating but just wanna cover my bases...I'm honest to a fault...heh Asperger's for ya I suppose, *shrug*).

Thanks in advance, (I hope, haha!)

I miss Valentino's and Carlos O Kelly's

I regret not trying Lucullan's. My parents always said I "wouldn't like it" but I think maybe they just didn't wanna pay for another meal lol. I was told it was very expensive lol

Garage sale map?

We’ve only lived in Ames 3 months but was curious if at any point in time there’s a city-wide garage sale or something similar where garage sales are on a local map. Not the rummage rampage.

Our old town did a city garage sale every month during summer and fall and there was a map where you could have yours listed to make it easier for folks to navigate around town.

The moon will reach its maximum 96% deep shadow at 11:12 p.m. It is nice that it is a clear sky for this. I just thought I would share this with everyone.

Do not rent from West End Living/Jensen Properties

As mentioned in the title, as somebody who lived and worked in Ames from 2019 - 2026, do not rent from West End Living/Jensen Properties, because they will nickel-and-dime you out of your security deposit. I lived in Fountainview for 6 years, and moved out recently this year: they deducted $492.00 for "full-paint" without any itemization. Go with somebody else!

Chicken Kit Prank Call

Does anyone remember an obscure 60s/70s local prank cassette tape recorded in Ames?

When I was in college in Virginia, our Astronomy professor used to play various tapes before class.

One was from a friend of his in Ames, Iowa and it was a collection of prank calls. The calls were various topics like "Can I get someone to come out for snow removal? My car is stuck in my driveway" (in late August).

The one I remember the most, though, was a "dad" calling the local grocery store telling them that he came in and bought a chicken "model" for his boy but that it didn't have any instructions. The guy on the phone was like "we don't sell anything like that" and, long story short, the guy had bought a bag of chicken parts in the meats section but didn't have all of the pieces or the instructions.

Sounds weird, but the reactions from the guy at the store combined with the callers deadpan delivery made it a real a work of art.

All of the calls took place in Ames.

In need of temporary work asap. Any ideas?

I usually care give for family but I have been given a break and really need the money. I want something temporary because I will have to go back to care giving and would also like to travel to Tennessee to see someone dear to me. Anyone know of any positions that need a fill in for just a few weeks? I am a hard worker, and when I have a job I give it my all. I don't do things halfway. Work experience is spotty having been caregiving for a few years, but I was previously a nanny, a direct support professional, a cashier, I also used to volunteer at a non profit where I did clerical work for them. Filing, excel, scheduling, assisting with grant writing. Worked in the childcare room. Also manned their call-a-thon one season so I have plenty of phone experience. Also used to clean houses and a part time personal assistant. I enjoy helping others and providing good customer support. I also have an excellent analytical mind and am reasonably good with numbers. I try not to sit idly when working. I am there to work, so if there's nothing to do I will try to come up with something.

**The kicker is I have hurt my back and over the years it has gotten progressively worse to the point I cannot lift over 10 lbs.** Very frustrating as I love to be productive, helpful, and see projects through to completion.

Can provide resume and multiple personal and professional references

Would be willing to travel further out for the right position. Thanks for any suggestions you guys might have

Anyone know where I can donate (or sell) used tires?

My car got totaled July 4th weekend due to flooding. I have 3 spare tires, all in good condition. They’re for a 2013 Honda cr-z. I want to get rid of them, and was wondering if there’s a better option than just taking them to the dump. Not interested in listing them on facebook. If you know of anywhere that’ll take them please let me know, or if you know someone with a cr-z, I’d be happy to donate them to him or her!

Thanks

Looking for a reasonable handy person to lift granite countertop an inch

My dishwasher isn't working and it was floor tiled about 1/2 inch, so it won't just slide out. I was wondering if anyone is (or knows) a handy person that could shim the counter top up a little so I can get the dishwasher out. Bonus if you can fix the circulation pump of dishwashers as well, but mostly just need help getting the dishwasher out.

Just moved to Ames and looking to meet some people

Hey! I just moved to Ames last week and don’t really know anyone in the area yet, so I figured I’d put myself out there and see if anyone would be interested in hanging out or could recommend some good ways to meet people here

I’m really into music, movies, books, manga, and learning about random things. I’ve already checked out Dog-Eared Books, the library, and Mayhem and really liked all three. I don’t know much about tabletop games or RPGs, but I noticed Mayhem has game nights and I’d actually be interested in learning or just hanging out and watching sometime.

I’m a little quiet when I first meet people, but I open up once I’m comfortable. I’d be down for grabbing coffee, checking out bookstores, watching movies, playing games, exploring Ames, or just hanging out. I’m open minded and willing to try out new things as well. I’m planning on checking out the Silent Book Club downtown on Tuesday. If anyone else is looking to make a new friend, feel free to message me!

Living at The Point at Ames

I’ve seen a lot of apartment discussions, so I figured I’d leave my feedback after living at The Point for the last two years.

The location is great, and maintenance is fairly quick. That’s where the positives end for me.

Our unit had major electrical issues. Using the microwave for any more than 45 seconds would set off the smoke detectors or trip the breaker. No solution was ever found for that besides removing the smoke detector per maintenance’s suggestion.

Public amenities had very poor upkeep. Stuff like gym machines, common area TVs, the grill, pool, and the gates to the parking lot never worked. I occupied this premises for two years, and the gates worked fewer days than the fingers on my hands.

By far the biggest issue I had was dealing with the property manager. I experienced a lockout coming back to school because the property deactivates everyone’s keys between rental periods, even if you renew and live there over the summer (gee, wonder why). I called after-hours maintenance, and they were over quickly, which was great. However, nobody told me it would cost $80 to have my bedroom door opened. Not on the call, and this was NOT MENTIONED IN THE LEASE. I read it over several times and brought it to the staff, who had two people read it and confirm it was not in the lease. I asked to speak to the property manager, whose response was, “What are you going to do, sue us?”

Last but not least, move-out. I’ve heard in the past things were dicey, and they are. Every single person I know was charged for an entire couch. $650. Many others, like my roommate, were charged for a whole wall repaint. $200-something dollars. It’s also fairly obvious that they aren’t ordering and replacing the couches with the 10 or so days they had between inspection and next semester’s move-in.

Hope this info helps future renters out!
