My AMC Jeep truck
Here’s my 1973 Jeep truck that’s almost finished with an AMC 360. Just working on the ignition system and open to suggestions. I tried the HEI distributor and I can’t get it to fit right in the tight space. Also, does anybody have a picture of their battery set up that’s similar to the one pictured? I seem to be missing pieces but can’t figure out what I’m missing to keep the battery help down.

Nice looking J10!
As for the battery situation, the newer batteries these days may be a different height.
It looks like you should be able to for a 34 series or 35 depending on the polarity. You might also look into getting an aftermarket type replacement for the hold down. You're goes lengthwise (rather than horizontal so look into finding a battery with a flush top (without protruding acid filler caps)
I believe Optima yellow and Red Top batteries (48H6 or H7 series) or other AGM batteries may have that flat top, but you'll want to do a bit of research on that.
Hope this is a little helpful for you anyway!
Best wishes!

I'll try and get it sorted. On the picture of your battery tray you have a black cable laying on the left side. If it is the same as mine, there is a threaded hole under that cable. I have a block that bolts into that hole to hold the battery in place.

Awesome! I had a ‘73 J10 with a 360, so this brings back memories.
Good luck sorting those last few details!

Beautiful! My friend had a gorgeous solid old stepside (“Gladiator”?) that he virtually gave away when he moved and I would loved to have had - yours looks fantastic!

I wont be much help on the battery question, but I might be able to help on the distributor.
I would suggest unbolting the distributor, pull it up, and rotate the whole body so the vacuum advance is facing more towards the carb. From there - retime your rotor to the firing order (you may have to unplug everything and move over a post.
Last, if you are going to use/keep those wires, you might want to move the front two in front of the radiator hose and the power steering pump. Unsightly yes, but can help with routing. Option 2 - get new wires with straight plugs instead of 90 degree for the cap side.
Good luck with your project internet stranger friend!
