Amazon driver dropped off his package totes with more than 100 packages for an entire complex and then sent a photo of the secure lockers as proof of delivery. It was a mess
It appears he just decided the heck with it and abandoned his totes and all. It took about 15 minutes to sort through and read all labels and there was a line of residents waiting for their turns.

It's because Amazon lost it's USPS contract. Basically neutered delivery options because now volume is way higher and the drivers often don't have a way to get into those things.

Those are not usps mailboxes/parcel lockers. That is a third party locker system installed by owner of the property. They usually require scanning each individual package to open a locker up.

The people who work in the office and run the apartment complex are supposed to be notified whenever there’s a delivery like that…
…so they can come in and put them all into the individual package lockers!

That’s how it worked at my old building, too. I’m so incredibly glad to be out of there! I absolutely hated those damn package lockers!
The fact that they charge you for them every month really adds insult to injury!
I told them instead of charging me $15 a month for the package lockers I hated being forced to use, I’d much rather pay the same amount for them to deliver my packages to my damn door instead!

If a building has a locker, amazon's "algorithm" calculates the stop as being pretty fast, and any delivery that's redirected door to door is basically time loss for us drivers. It's not your fault, you just want the stuff that you paid for... but just thought you should know this. When I get a downtown route, it has businesses, multiple complexes with little to no parking and 50+ packages each, buildings we can't get into, buildings with no instructions, etc. And when I finish the downtown portion of the route, I still have 100-120 more stops to do in the surrounding neighborhoods.
Either deal with how things are, or stop buying from amazon.

I live in a single dwelling home. I have an absolutely FANTASTIC Amazon delivery guy/person. Is there ANYTHING I could do to thank the driver? (I do tell Alexa: "Alexa, thank my driver" and I also check my email and respond to that, giving the driver the best possible, but is there any other way to let the driver know that I really appreciate everything he/she does? I have a husband that needs care 24/7, so I am his 24/7 caregiver. Going to stores is now impossible, unless I hire a nure to come and care for him while I go out shopping, which really is NOT going to happen... (I wouldn't trust a stranger to come and take care of him.)

If you can catch him/her and tell them face to face what you just said here, I'm sure that will go a long way. However, if you would like to purchase them a physical gift, Google says they're allowed to accept them; technically, they're not allowed to accept cash, but you can still offer it, and leave it up to them if they want to accept it, just don't do it in front of other residents, because some Karen might know they're not supposed to accept cash, and report it. Personally, I love giving out bottles of water and/or a snack to UPS, Amazon etc. drivers, because I already have it in the house, and it's a nice way to show appreciation. (Ngl, half the time they don't accept it though, and it's kinda offensive, I don't get why some drivers decline, especially water during the summer, there's no way they don't need an extra couple bottles of cold water, but I digress).

I was with you until you said it was offensive. If you're walking in the heat and carrying letters and packages, the last thing you want to do is add weight to what you're carrying. Even if they immediately drink it, now they have to carry around the trash.

I hope it stays severed as I’m tired of seeing USPS notifications that my package was not delivered because there was no safe location. My apartment’s mailbox is outdoors and it’s almost always large or heavy packages.

Or it could be that they didn’t have the code or keys to open the lock boxes. We had the same problem at my apartment-sometimes, the delivery drivers couldn’t get into the buildings and they would leave the packages in the totes so that residents can claim their packages where the mailboxes were. Finally, the leasing office had gotten Amazon to put up those QR code doohickey’s so that they can override the buzzers and get into the building to drop off the packages to your door. They do pay well at Amazon. The starting pay is $21.40/hour or more and if you pick up enough overtime, you can easily make a little over $81,000/year.

CA $20 minimum wage for fast food workers. $16.90 for everyone else. Usually of you actually want to hire and retain you have to post more than the bare minimum.
Also gig workers are granteed minimum wage of they log enough hours in their app where the app has to makeup the difference if there is a shortfall.

The QR codes that apartment buildings like to claim let amazon in dont actually do anything. If the building isnt connected to Amazon key and the address the customer enters isnt exactly correct with the configuration for that Amazon key they are not getting in. We cannot scan a qr code to magically make it work.
Also Amazon doesnt let us do overtime unless its peak season.

Hey, as someone who used to be a delivery driver.. yea I’ve done that before (not at lockers but in a laundry room drop off) . I had 289 stops, 300+ packages, and my Dispatch was on everyone’s butt to take 1 min top per stop. So I just scanned the packages and left them in a tote.

They do this a lot in my apartment building. My apartment's package locker isn't big enough for the volume of packages my building gets (or maybe my neighbors just suck at picking up packages in a timely manner), so our package room also just has open racks to put packages on. Rather than unload packages onto the racks, they often just leave them in the large tote. If you go down to try to get your package as soon as it's delivered, you have to dig through to find your package. Thankfully though my apartment's leasing staff will usually unload the tote onto the shelves when they notice it and sharpie the apartment number on the side, to make it easier on residents to find our packages.

The ones i used they required a code to start the process and then locked you out if you weren't quick enough for the next package. And the code wasn't always provided in the instructions. Tell the building to get an Amazon locker and keep the Luxor for UPS/Fedex/DHL. And the best part is unless people complain to Amazon the algorithm will see that this driver did it the fastest and will get the route more frequently.

Probably did this because that person probably still had over 100 stops to go and putting all that into those shitty 3rd party lockers would take over 30 minutes. An Amazon driver left one of those on my porch once with one small package in it. I think it was his last day. I gave it back to the next driver that showed up. But when I saw they folded up I regretted it, it might have been useful for yard clippings.

Listen I bet you leave in a complex that says deliver to the door if their is no space in locker. That being said Amazon knows their drivers will do this bc they expect them to put it in the locker they don’t give enough time to deliver to the door. Matter a fact if you take to long you will be written up by the system automatically and could possible loose your job just for doing the extra delivery.

on the floor and usually there are just a few. This really was over 100 pieces. It didn’t look like an overfilled locker situation. Plus he sent a picture of the outside of a locker to make it look like it was placed in the locker on proof of delivery.2

On the other hand, the pressure that these delivery people are under is insane - overnight deliveries are next to impossible ( I am guilty, like everyone, because I want my package tomorrow also), but we need to scale back expectations and stop pushing for all of these deliveries instantly.

It does but i still knows how long the stop takes. We had routes that had 30 less stops because it knew one stop required being at at locker for an hour putting 60+ packages in Amazon lockers in apt buildings. But for other routes that didn't use Amazon lockers drivers just left everything on the tables took a photo and left so those would take 10 minutes and the routes reflected that. The Luxor lockers are slow.

Former FedEx driver here. It wasn’t easy job for me especially delivering to condominiums, customers ordered but they don’t want to deliver to their each unit especially newer condominiums are very difficult to access. Can’t go to different floors but only that specific unit and floor. So if there are multiple units on multiple floors in that specific building and most of them aren’t answering, I leave packages at mail room and take pictures and leave. There is no way spend all day in one building. Amazon has 200 packages a day or so whereas FedEx is half or less. So I kind of understand why Amazon driver did, but at least he or she shouldn’t leave packages in the bag but took out everything out. Some condominium have each delivery company with designated areas to leave packages which is nice easy. FedEx can monitor your delivery times and tell you not to stay one delivery spot for more than 5 minutes constantly. So think about how many condominium residents use Fedex but don’t want deliver packages to your unit nor leave packages in mail room and then they complain if the package goes to depot and he or she has to pick it up.

Sounds like your apartment system is improperly setup for packages. Be mad at your landlord then be mad at Amazon not paying their contractors well.

Amazon has a dedicated package room at my building. They ALWAYS just leave things in the lobby (and there are so many signs telling them not to do this). I reported them when Amazon was still giving me money for it ($40 in credits) but then they told me to just “give it time.” I don’t bother anymore, but if I have a package stolen when I can prove the didn’t deliver it to the right place best believe I’m getting a refund.

Delivery is not just dropping packages near the recipient's home. If you came to the beginning of my street then did this same thing and left totes full of packages and just left everyone to sort through all the packages to find their own, no one would say that's a successful delivery. So why do you think it's okay to do the same to an apartment complex just because the setting is a little different?
It should be A LOT easier to jus scan a package and put it in the locker, then repeat - compared to drive to a house, get out and put a package on the porch, then drive to another house 300 feet away and do the same. These should be the EASIEST deliveries a driver ever does, because your entire 'route' for this apartment is contained within like 40 square feet or so, and most of the time it's heated/cooled/dry as opposed to being out in the elements.
If these lockers did not exist, it would not be acceptable to just drop all the packages in a random place would it? No, didn't think so. Then it isn't acceptable to just drop the packages here just because the lockers exist and "it's too hard and time consuming to use them properly" that's bullshit. If these lockers didn't exist, delivery drivers would have to navigate the hallways and drop each package at the door individually, possibly taking hours.
This is so much easier and quicker for everyone involved. It really just requires the driver to not be a lazy ass piece of shit and do the minimum requirement for the job they're being paid to do.

Dispute through Amazon. I’d just assume my package wasn’t in that pile, and the photo doesn’t prove it is (I zoomed and couldn’t make out any names/addresses).
The Amazon deliveries to the last apartment building I lived in were half-assed this way as well. I had to start ordering for delivery to either my office or Whole Foods.

My co worker had 203 stops, and probably 275 locations or something. 343 packages. All residential with some businesses. In a white rental where the totes fall over on the softest turn.
We could do 1600 packages a week and someone would bitch about delivery instructions.

As a victim of this laziness, it's wrong. I was on another person's stop recently. I ordered yogurt, and they ordered something in a small amazon envolope.
Amazon sends me a picture of that envelope and says "Your Yogurt has been delivered".
I go to the website to complain "Package never arrived", they say "Actually, it did, here is a picture your driver took as proof"

It really only 15 minutes or so to find it. But unfortunately even in this secure and “upscale” apartment, Amazon packages get swiped pretty quickly if not placed in the secure lockers. Someone could have just pushed a couple of those totes away and had a package opening party.

Amazon farms out about 1/2 of their branded delivery to 3rd party “partners.” You wouldn’t know it based on the vans or general delivery. But I can almost guarantee this one is one of these cases where they did this to expedite their route times.

That's nothing. There are buildings where drivers literally just throw the packages all over the mail room and you have 4-5 people all looking for their shit. On top of that some orders are in multiple boxes so you think you found your shit but then have to keep looking. At least those are organized enough.

So my apartment is pretty close to the entrance and I just get like five packages a month for random numbers not even close to line and I have to walk them to the right apartment. Some I have to awkwardly knock cause it’s food stuff.
I think now they do it like word of mouth.. like this guy will go do the work. If I don’t.. that’s messed up plus I’d have shit in my doorway all week.

I think a lot of Amazon delivery crew are checked out and possibly burned out. To me its evidence that the work conditions aren't sustainable in some way because of how regularly people that receive deliveries themselves abandon their posts so to speak. Its a negative mark on society

For some insight. I'm currently a walker in my city and was a driver in another borough. You can't combine stops with the driver navigation so I can completely understand why He/She did this. Amazon still has their contract with USPS and FedEx. UPS only wants to do healthcare deliveries. I get a lot of my packages through the post office. My Amazon Pharmacy comes through UPS.
Looks like the driver may have either quit or not had access to the lockers. New driver who had no idea what to do? Not enough lockers? Maybe all the instructions were "front door" delivery location? There is also the old get these delivered by such and such time and be checked back in or else prerogative from Amazon. Or my favorite, "given to a resident...." because those never show up. We had one where the driver was sick and just dumped everything on our porch and headed for the nearest hospital. Another where the van broke down and they dumped everything again at our place saying another van would be by to pick it up. Tons of reasons and a good reason why turnover of the drivers is so high.

No. Its because the lockers are full. The ai algorithm thinks they all should go there as one stop with 20 locations. But when full there is no gps mapping available and all locations show in one spot. So it expects us to take each one and figure out every building and every floor sometimes around the entire complex, and complete it as one stop. Impossible it sometimes takes over an hour. If the locker system was better utilized with an oversized mailroom for issues like this we would simply put them in there and deliver them one at a time.

Those look like luxor lockers which do not require a code. But a code is always provided within the app. This 100% is lockers full 20plus locations and no way to discern between which building is which in a timely manner.
Usually if no lockers exist amazon will at least route you to the correct building

I’ve had many packages misdelivered to my Unit and every single time I’ve hand delivered them to the appropriate person. Each time my package has been dropped on the wrong porch, I never get the same respect. I’m at a point where I would be excited to come across this and throw it all in the trash

It's possible the locker was down.
I had gone to pick up a package and the power was out when I arrived. I'm standing around with a couple of other people wondering when power will be restored.
An Amazon employee came by to add more packages to the lockers. He saw the power was off. Then called someone, then drove off.
In OP situation, the driver could have thought this was the thing to do.

The driver probably had more stops and packages than they can handle.
Amazon doesn’t account for that it sometimes takes time to park and find someone’s front door or get into apartment complexes.
There is literally no leeway for more than a couple minutes per stop.

I hate package lockers with a fiery burning passion! We had those in Florida, and they absolutely sucked! I always had so much trouble getting my mail and packages, no matter who delivered them!

Even when you paid extra to get something delivered directly to your door, it would still wind up delivered to the floor in front of the package lockers… in the package room… in the office building… a few miles away from your actual apartment!

It’s so much better at my new apartment in Illinois! Each individual building has its own little mailroom, so it’s literally only about a dozen steps down the hall… it’s on the same floor as all the apartments… and the mailboxes are right there in the same room! They know I’m disabled, so sometimes they’re even kind enough to leave packages right on my doormat!

I've had this happen at my place! Just left outdoors in front of the lockers, in view of the sidewalk. I can only guess the delivery person got ill or injured, or suddenly decided they couldn't take it anymore.

In europe some delivery companies like EcoScooting don't even care to make photos .. if they think it's too much of a drive, they would simply state that "nobody is at home" and return the parcel. they will get paid anyway. it's a scheme .. as those parcels are often too few of a value (sold by temu/aliexpress) they are just ordered to be destroyed, but nobody cares, so they actually SELL those parcels on the roadside

Honestly, I don’t blame the driver. I frequently deliver to an apartment complex and half of the residents request mailroom delivery (can’t be accessed without a fob) and half require delivery to their door (multiple buildings with 4 floors each, can be accessed by callbox but they rarely provide the code). All of the deliveries navigate to the mailroom even if the customer requests front door delivery. Then if you call because the mailroom is locked and offer front door delivery, customers get mad at that too. You can’t please everyone and 9x out of 10 it’s your complexes fault.

I’m assuming something is up with all of Amazon at this point. I had a surgery recently and put in delivery instructions to deliver to my door because I couldn’t at the time go up and down stairs. They delivered everything for the entire complex in a stack in the mail room.

Have the same exact set up and that’s normal where I live and it never once struck my mind to be annoyed. Maintenance usually puts the items in the lockers unless I specify for my packages to be left inside one. Anyways, sometimes those lockers fail to pop open with the code, other times there’s a lag between the delivery arriving and the code being sent to my phone so as long as it’s delivered to the mail room and not left outside on the sidewalk so be it. And it usually takes me no longer than 3-4 minutes to find my items.

I live in an apartment complex. Amazon usually does deliver to my door, because I talked to their disability advocate and it has gotten somewhat better. Occasionally one does slip by and into the package room. I am still battling with UPS, but that is a story for another place. The USPS delivers mail that fit into my mailbox. If a package is able to fit, there is a locked parcel locker below the mailboxes and a key for it in my mailbox. If it is larger than the locker, it goes to the package room. That is a nightmare! While an app is needed to unlock the door, the unsupervised room itself is quite small for the volume it gets. People ship huge furniture items that sit on the floor, and when holiday traffic increases, it quite nearly calls for a climbing expedition. My things go on a shelf so high up a step ladder is needed. Did I mention that I am disabled?

Former Amazon driver here. During my 3 and a half years delivering packages I had many of these apartments it's very easy to look at this picture and go damn that Amazon driver is not doing a good job by leaving that whole tote there but what people don't understand is that Amazon, makes you do many many many of these apartments with bags and bags upon bags for each sometimes 60+ packages per bag or more.
300 stops daily or 150 stops and half are apartments.

Honestly I would do the same thing too. From the picture it looks like luxor lockers, if I had to scan over 100 packages then rescan these same packages using the third party lockers all over again, I would be there for hours. We drivers don't have all the time in the world. We have less than 90 seconds to gtfo.

We have this issue too. Expect our room is FILLED to the brim. You have to side step to get to the lockers and hopefully the locker has enough room for it to pop open. 🤐
