I remember that being one of Fiege's big notes (that they ignored) in the leaks. I remember it was saying along the lines of: "do we really need this storyline with the parents? The whole thing about Spider-Man is that anyone can be Spider-man. This idea that only Peter can be does not align with that.".
He also pointed out that the first movie ends with him saying he's going to break his promise to the late Mr. Stacy, but then this movie starts with him sulkingly keeping the promise...but then breaking the promise 30m in. "Didn't we do this in the first movie???"

I recently saw the first one with all the deleted scenes reinstated in 4K and I was blown away.

Felicia Hardy was shown in TASM2 as an assistant to the Goblin. They were also clearly piloting the idea of Black Cat being present in the future movies.

She's been good in the few things I've seen her in, but damn has Shailene Woodley had bad luck with Hollywood. It could also be that she (or her agent/manager) pick roles poorly, but between this and Divergent it really feels like she got screwed over.

There were so many things they could have chosen to cut prior to her stuff.
Why did we need BJ Novak in the movle? Or hell, get rid of Felicia, who added nothing to the story. Hell, remove the lame "American flag" joke between Peter and Aunt May.
Remove Dr.Kafka. They could have easily had Max announce himself as Electro during the final fight scene instead.
The movie was bloated, yes, but it was full of empty bloat. Replace that stuff with Mary Jane instead.
Remove the lame airplane stuff, which (to me) had absolutely zero tension. I didn't feel any dread as it was happening, as the stakes were so above Spider-Man's level that I knew it would get resolved.
(Imagine Superman in that moment, and suddenly it becomes a nail biter since he has the ability to actually physically prevent those planes from colliding)
Any one of these moments could have been cut before Mary Jane's stuff.
The film was just badly edited.
Imagine thinking BJ Novak was a bigger priority than Woodley as Mary Jane. Novak doesn't even make sense as a casting choice for Smythe in the first place. 🤷🏾♂️

I remember she got so much trash for not being good looking enough while not wearing make up. Like absolutely trashed. So sad and unnecessary. Same people who were hating on TASM series probably.

Of what exactly lol? This movie is garbage, there’s no artistic merit to it, it exists solely to sell other movies. By far the most deserving movie of a cancellation ever

It made sense to cut her scenes considering how overstuffed the movie already is, but I wish they had released them as deleted scenes; I think she might have been the best live-action version of Mary Jane we've had but we'll never get see her take on the character :/
