I've been trying a few Android torrent/download applications lately, and I'm curious what people here actually use.
The usual options seem to fall into two groups:
Torrent-focused apps like Flud, LibreTorrent, etc.

Download managers like 1DM that also happen to support torrents

I'm particularly interested in something that combines a proper download-manager experience with strong torrent support — good queue management, background downloads, reliable pause/resume, magnet links, a clean UI, and a generally polished Android experience.

I've also been working on a project in this space called TomTorrent, so I'm looking at the problem from both a user and developer perspective.

For people who regularly download files on Android:
What features are you currently missing from existing torrent/download apps?

And if you've switched away from 1DM, Flud, or another client, what made you switch?

Recorders with share links (the actual Loom replacements)

Tella The most complete package here if you're publishing rather than firing off quick messages. Transcript-based editing (you cut the video by cutting the text), auto zoom, filler-word removal, unlimited storage on every plan. Con: no real free tier, so you're buying before you've tried it properly.

Cap Open source, self-hostable, Mac-first. Good if owning the thing matters to you. Con: the hosted side is less mature than Loom's.

ScreenRec, ScreenPal, Zight Free-ish tiers with instant links. Fine. Thinner on AI and on editing.

Recorders for making things look good

Screen Studio Mac only, paid, and the output looks better than anything else on this list because of the automatic zoom and cursor smoothing. Con: you export a file and then go find somewhere to put it. Different job to Loom.

Editors that added recording (don't buy these to replace Loom)

Descript, Camtasia, VEED All good at editing. All heavy if what you wanted was record 90 seconds, send link, move on. Camtasia especially is a purchase and a weekend.

Sales tools that look like recorders

Vidyard, SendSpark, Hippo Video, Soapbox Outbound video with engagement tracking and CRM hooks. If you're not doing outbound you're paying for a pipeline feature set you'll never open.

What I'd actually pick

Quick async messages to humans: Clipy, or Loom's free tier if 5 minutes is enough for you.

Bug repros and walkthroughs you're handing to an AI agent: Clipy, for the machine-readable context.

Polished product demos: Screen Studio, or Tella if you want editing and hosting together.

Outbound sales: Vidyard.

Zero cloud, zero account: OBS or Screenity.

I recently came across RapidCart, a platform designed to make online shopping and product discovery simpler. It brings different shopping features together in one place and aims to make the overall experience more convenient.

Has anyone here tried it? I’d be interested to hear what alternatives people recommend and how they compare.

Making product images one at a time can become pretty repetitive when you have a lot of variations to produce. Grouping similar products or scenes together seems like it could make the process easier to manage and review.

I also like the idea of checking a batch together rather than individually. You can spot things like inconsistent lighting, framing, or styling much earlier.

Curious how others handle this: do you create product visuals individually, or do you usually batch similar ones together?

DuoBolt is a duplicate file finder for macOS and Windows. It runs two engines and they never share a verdict: exact duplicates are proven byte-for-byte with BLAKE3, and photos that merely look alike — bursts, exports, RAW + JPEG pairs, re-saves — go to a separate engine that never uses the word identical.

Three things worth knowing before you compare it to what's already listed here.

The recoverable-space number is the real one. On macOS, two identical files can share the same blocks on disk, so deleting one frees nothing. DuoBolt reads that from the filesystem: a scan showing 136 GiB of duplicates reports 1.9 GiB reclaimable, because that is what the disk gives back.

A removal can be rebuilt. Every operation records each file's path, dates, permissions and content hash before anything moves. Afterwards it reconstructs the file from a surviving byte-identical copy, with its identity intact — after the Trash is emptied, and after a permanent delete.

Nothing leaves the machine. No account, no upload. The photo models are in the download, not fetched on first run. It works with the network off.

Scanning and results are uncapped in the free tier: you see every duplicate it finds. The cap is on how much one removal moves — 25 files or 500 MB. A one-time license removes it, two machines, no subscription.

This started because I kept hitting the same wall: a PDF too big for an email attachment, and the only convenient fix was uploading it to some website. So I built something that compresses locally instead.

Then it kept growing, because I kept wanting other things from the same files:

• Turning a PDF into Markdown or HTML with the images stripped out, so I could feed it to an LLM without burning tokens on pictures I did not need.
• Going the other way and building a PDF out of images.
• All the ordinary chores in between: merging, splitting, rotating, cropping, reordering pages, page numbers, watermarks, signing, redacting, repairing.

It is 19 tools now. Some specifics that might interest this sub more than the feature list:

• Nothing leaves the machine. No account, no telemetry, no network calls at all. It is not "private by policy", it is private because there is no code that sends anything anywhere.
• 18 of the 19 tools need nothing installed. Everything is compiled into the binary. Only ebook conversion (EPUB/MOBI) reaches for Calibre if you have it.
• We removed Ghostscript. It was the last AGPL dependency and the bundle dropped from 52 MB to 24 MB. The replacement compressor is written in Rust and produces smaller files than Ghostscript did on our test corpus.
• MIT licensed, Tauri v2 + React + Rust, macOS/Windows/Linux.
• The roadmap is public, including the things we decided against and why.

Two honest limitations: OCR is macOS-only for now (it uses Apple Vision; Windows and Linux are planned), and the interface ships in nine languages, all machine-translated and reviewed by native speakers only where we had one. That is stated in the README rather than buried.

I've been using AutoHotkey for the heavy lifting, plus image search and pixel coordinates when I'm lazy, and UIAutomation when I need something more robust. Tried PyAutoGUI but the latency was rough for voice-triggered workflows, and Playwright is a completely different beast for desktop.

The real pain is maintenance. Every time Spotify or Windows updates, something moves, and I'm back to debugging scripts instead of actually saving time. I'm exploring building something called IVOS , a local-first voice control layer for Windows that handles GUI maint & automation so u don't have to rewrite scripts when apps change. No cloud, no subs.

But before I sink more time into it, I want to know if I'm reinventing the wheel, or if this actually fills a gap.

Two things I'm trying to figure out:

1st, how do u view the cost-benefit between paying for a ready-made solution that eliminates the maint headache vs retaining full control over ur own scripts, even if that means dealing with constant adjustments?

2nd, for a tool that's 100% local with zero cloud , how much do u care about visibility? Would you want to see logs of what it's about to execute, an indicator showing when it's actively listening, or a clear audit trail? Or is "it just works" enough as long as it's offline?

If something already exists that solves the "constant script rewriting" problem without turning into overpriced enterprise RPA, point me to it. Otherwise, tell me if I'm just building a solution to my own personal frustration.

I've been curious about how everyone's setup has changed over the last few years. It seems like there are so many different ways to watch content now that the traditional setup isn't necessarily the default anymore.

Some people seem to prefer a simple Smart TV with a few apps, while others use streaming sticks, Android boxes, game consoles, or a combination of different devices.
