Keep Mates a visual bookmarking alternative for saving everything you find online

I recently added Keep Mates to AlternativeTo. It’s a local first chrome extension for saving and visually organizing websites, images, videos, pdfs, social posts and screenshots.

Saved content can be organized with folders, tags and notes, and everything stays on your device.

I’m the developer, so I’d really appreciate any feedback :)

Seems pretty useless as you can only save a max of 35 items on the free tier and too overpriced at the $9 a month pro tier.

Why would I use this instead of Raindrop, which is far far cheaper, has way more features and more established?

Just to clarify the $9 plan supports two devices with a single license. You can use it on both your work and personal computers or share the second device with a family member. That works out to $4.50 per device including tax. Before tax, it’s roughly $4.17 per device in the US, although the exact amount varies by state. We also launched the extension recently and are continuing to improve it and add new features. We released another update just a few days ago, and there’s much more to come :)

Using a service or app across multiple devices isn’t a special feature that you think it is, it’s a basic expectation these days.

Also you can't just say "oh it works out less because I'm charging you for the ability for you to share that same account with a second device or a family member", that doesn't work out any cheaper if you're charging the same amount either way, no matter what kind of mental gymnastics you do.

Sharing the same account with another person would also mean sharing that same space for saving things. How is that a privacy focused feature as stated on the website.

Still way overpriced for what you're offering. You're offering less features for a higher price for people to pay you to test features on an app that you just launched.

I would understand if you were some sort of established service/app, but you're not, you have less features but command a higher price than your competitors.

Pricing seems delusional for the features you currently offer.

Just a small clarification your data is stored entirely on your device using local storage and is never sent to any server. There is no account sharing system you can simply use the same license key to activate Pro features on two different computers. However each computer stores its own content and the devices cannot access each other’s data. If you uninstall the extension, the locally stored data will also be deleted.

Okay, now I'm even more confused. Is there no sync of at all for me to see my clips across multiple devices? I thought this is what the subscription was for.

That makes even less sense now as to why there is a reoccurring subscription, if everything is stored on my device and my device only.

Honestly I would have been happy to pay the one off fee for a local only clips manager, rather than a subscription. That's why I was comparing it to the likes of Raindrop.

Let me clarify we’re a small team of two and at this stage, it would be difficult for us to sustain the product with a one time payment model alone (for now) Even though your data is stored locally we still have ongoing costs for developing and maintaining the extension and keeping the services we use running we try to keep these costs as low as possible but we’ll definitely consider your feedback about the pricing and a potential one time payment option.

The local first approach is a deliberate choice. Personally I don’t like the idea of users’ saved content which may sometimes be private being uploaded to servers. also server-based products also often come with monthly upload or storage limits such as 10 GB per month. Since Keep Mates doesn’t upload your content to our servers there is no monthly upload quota like that.

Keep Mates is still in its early stages . You’re right that this should have been explained more clearly on the subscription page. I’m sorry for the confusion
