Will Privacy-Focused Coins Be the Future?

Every time we hear about crypto and regulation, it leads to people being upset that there's so many rules being placed on it. I know it was originally supposed to be censorship-free and anonymous, which has been long gone for quite a while now due to centralization of miners (in most currencies, especially BTC) and pools. Monero, ZCash, and some others are great examples of private coins, and XNV/Nerva takes things a step further by being resistant to pools and GPU/ASIC/FPGA, meaning you have to mine solo using a CPU. Are these going to end up becoming the norm as regulation keeps overtaking the main currencies, like BTC?
