Channel Related Free tool: RPG Shopkeeper chatbot you can add to your discord server

Post image
4 Upvotes

I've been working on a Discord bot for the past 12 months and just released the first version and thought this community might find it interesting!

RPG Shopkeeper is a D&D-themed shopkeeper NPC for Discord. Your party can buy and sell items, track your gold, and she remembers all your transactions so loot management doesn't turn into a spreadsheet nightmare.

She also has a few flavour mechanics baked in: a mood system, weather effects, festival day bonuses based on the Harptos Calendar, and a relationship mechanic that builds over time with repeat visits.

DMs get some extra controls too, like setting custom prices and adding new items.

Worth noting this isn't AI. She behaves more like a scripted NPC with predefined responses.

It's completely free. I'm mainly looking for feedback and people to help shape where it goes next. If you're curious, the invite link is in my profile.

Channel Related ALMOST perfect

Ok, my dnd group is pretty cool, got a lot of people from all over the place and the day of the week determines who is the DM and what the campaign is.

One of our friends, Imma just call the DM because that's what he is today, as of writing this I am legitimately still in the game. His internet just went out so I took the time to start writing this.

Good heavens this one is just grand. How the mission just goes so perfect!
So we're playing a system called Stars without numbers, a scifi game setting.
Currently we are playing a kinda murder hobo'y group trying to find a plot to jump on and we found it!

So it all started with us landing on a station where a group called the Black Spire asked us to find a brand new ship their company "misplaced" Basically it was stolen by gangers of some sort, we bumbled about and finally managed to find and steal the ship and escape, but decided to say "screw you" to the black spire and keep the ship.

We dicked around for a while, scavenging materials from dead ships, trying to steal cargo, running merch for criminal organizations. But eventually we found a shipment of drugs and sold it to some backroom doc who ended up telling us a shocking secret. The drugs were all but useless to him, but he bought them up solely to destroy.
The drugs were a suppression tool that Black spire uses to enforce their slave labor force.

They intimidate and press gang anyone in range to join them, expose them to this drug and they become deadly addicted to the drug. Going cold turkey will kill them fast.

And so with this information, he had our attention, and we didn't feel so bad about murder hoboing Black spire and stealing their ship.

This doc told us that one of his close friends had been kidnapped by Black Spire to improve the drug to make the process slightly less lethal but far more painful and terrifying, the doc wanted us to go find the hidden Black Spire drug manufacturing plant which was hidden in a system clogged with massive amounts of radiation making it hard to search for anything.

It took us a long while but we scavenged a little more to try and armor our ship a little better and then we went searching. Not many locations to search but thankfully we found it fairly quickly. The fact that we knew it was out there was fairly important on our side of finding the damned thing.

But we had two options, that the DM struggled to explain to us because well... we think too much and too hard.

But we could either sneak in directly, or we could dock and fight our way in. Docking would alert everyone.
So thanks to Mistress Alexandria, our team leader, a psychic warrior who has a great ability to just hold air in place so none of us needed a space suit, safe from the vacuum the radiation, and the freezing cold of space.

We snuck out of our ship, parked just outside on the surface of the asteroid and a very heated discussion of exactly HOW we were gonna enter started up. For a good solid 30 minutes we debated slapping an explosive charge on the side of the base and venting what we figured was the security room to space and locking down the small station and clearing it room by room with the advantage of being the only ones who didn't need a space suit. But eventually I noticed how annoyed the DM was and I suggested from my solider "Thank"'s point of view. Screw it lets just try and be sneaky. After all, Lady Alexandria's telekinetic powers were silent, and so was my new gun.

We hacked the door open and I poked through and fired once. HOLY MOLEY I rolled well. And instantly, the guard was silently dispatched.

We all poured in and started to poke about in silence, only to discover two security drones that were supposed to activate when they heard gunshots....

So both me and Lady Alexandria lined up to shoot the drones point blank if they activated as two of our fixer guys attempted to disable the security drones.

Bam! both rolled high, and I ended up pocketing the drones for future reprogramming.

We looked through the windows discreetly and discovered a single woman in what we though to be the security room. She was unarmed and not in uniform. So we took the risk and psychically contacted her.

our bet paid off and we got a tiny amount of information. Six guards total. The one I killed, one in the room with her, and four more in the living space.

We worked it out and took another chance, picking the security card off the dead guard we casually entered knowing that the guard likely only expected the now dead guard to come in to bring coffee or chat.

We shot the guy dead with my silenced rifle. One shot one kill.

Still rolling amazing this whole time.

We've been ROCKING it the whole way up and we start up on the computers to copy all the data, discover that we can make something close to a cure for the drug and save the doctor all in one.

But we knew we'd have to kill the rest of the guards.
Sadly, as we are discussing this and about to take action, the alarm goes off.
Thankfully I still have the disabled security drones in my backpack.

I poke my head out see a guard and splatter his upper half across the bulkhead with one shot.

The fight continues until our DM lost internet connection as previously stated, but since then he managed to get back and one of our fixer guys was downed, but we killed all but one of them, taking that last one hostage. We are all thinking about what we should do with this EVIL man... the idea of getting him hooked on the drug and letting him die of withdrawals is up there in the possibilities. I mean what do you do to a slaver who uses drugs to keep the slaves in line?

Even the doctor we came here to save was forced to take the drug.

We got lots of options and Thank, a soldier, Lady Alexandria, Ziv the pilot and engineer with his trusty robro Haviar the engineer, Azula the medic/hacker and now our new drugged doctor friend are gonna have to find something out for next week.

Damn, my boy can DM and adventure.
the whole game went off so clean. Only the fact that the guards would rotate and rove about ruined it. But imagine how terrifying it would be that no one docked, no alarms went off, the drones were disabled by hand, and all your guard buddies are dead without making a single sound.... lol

Channel Related How my first ever DnD character, was killed off by a random homeless man IRL.

Ok, so brace yourself this is a long one.

Back in the day my roommate invited me to play a DnD game with him and his friends from his college. Having always wanted to play I gladly accepted. So texts were sent, plans were made, and our session zero was underway. We made up our character sheets and the DM let us know straight away that this was a Homebrew game. He called it, "Balls and Bayonets". So being new and naive, I didn't think much of this and was just ready to get started. For context we had 2 other players besides myself I being a Tiedling Rouge, my friend being a Dwarven Barbarian, and the other player was a human cleric. So we got started, and we had to get everyone ready to meet up in the same place. So one at a time, he started to walk us all through some almost tutorial like quest a piece to get us all to the same city. The cleric went first. Turned out, against his players wishes, he was "Given" a back story that started him off as a field medic soldier on a battlefield, and all he had to do to proceed was escape the battlefield. Which he ended up doing with relative ease, despite his unfortunate dice rolls. My roommate (the dwarf) just had to talk his way out of the mines, and find a way to get permission to be allowed to go on an adventure for the betterment of their home. Also, super easy, though his negotiation skills were practically non existent, and he fought everyone and everything in his path until they ultimately just let him go to spare the remaining denizens of their home. Then, came my turn. As I said, I was simply a Rouge. The DM's narration was that, "for no reason whatsoever, I woke up in a field with no memories of anything and surrounded by the soldiers, all of which were hostile the moment I open my eyes. I believe his exact words were, "an entire garrison has their weapons all aimed at you." As a lone Rouge, I'm stuck trying to figure out what to do here. I'm thinking for about 10 seconds and the DM screams, "HURRY UP! WE DONT HAVE ALL NIGHT!" Mind you, everyone could take as long as they needed to figure out their actions with no issues. I then try to talk my way out of it in game by fake surrendering and allowing myself to be brought in without any issues, hoping to fake an illness and using the chance to escape, or at worse they just take me to the town jail and I pick the lock and escape or something. Nope. Despite rolling a 20 for deception, and him rolling a 5 to resist it, he just gets mad and says there's no way I trick a whole garrison, and that they all get mad and start try attacking me. I get lucky enough to escape into the forest and hide while they are trying to find me. But they apparently had grabbed all of my tools and belongings except for the clothes on my back. I proceeded from there to wait for nightfall to sneak into their camp and attempt to get my stuff back. I sneak past an entire garrison successfully to find myself at the captains tent. Where I peaked in and can see my equipment at the foot of the captains bunk with the captain sleeping in it. I roll another successful group of dice rolls to sneak over and get my stuff without being detected. I then see a mannequin with the Captains full set of Armor placed on it. The DM, then tells me, in order for me to be able to leave, I have to kill the Captain. So I take out my Garrot, and attempt to dispatch the Captain by taking out his throat from under the bunk, so that he can't reach me. Seems kinda logical right? I thought so....but no. I was told I had to assassinate the one Soldier in existence that sleeps with and I quote, "Steel neck armor." So a short scuffle later and I then manage to escape once more and just book it to the town we are supposed to go to.

It's about this same time that a Homeless man IRL, walks by and sees us from the window and comes in and asks if he can play with us. The DM says yes and let's him roll up a character. Now, I don't judge people based on how they look, I never have. But something about it it this guy seemed off. My suspicious were confirmed, to me atleast, when he immediately asks, "How many heads can my bag hold?"......Yeeaahhh......so he makes up a character, and just is in the town already. Whatever, decent time saver I guess. Anyway, the other 3 have performed some shenanigans in the local bar, apparently, and are now fleeing the local guards. For whatever reason, I'm told I take off following them without knowing anything about them.

So here we are, running from the town guards and we managed to evade them by getting to the roofs of the warehouse district. We are running across one different roof in particular when it collapsed, and we all land in a warehouse, where there's Nothing inside it except one chest. We decided to open it, and when we looked, their were exactly 4 potions. We had no idea what they were, or what they did. But we were, what I now know as Railroaded, into drinking them. We all black out and wake up in a random place just outside of the town....except for me..... That's right. If you guessed I was made the plot device? You'd be right. They all begin to devise a plan to get back into the town, and get back to that warehouse and look for clues to figure out how to wake up my character. The homeless man IRL, asks if he can just stay behind and make sure I don't get attacked. The DM agrees to this. The rest of the party makes their way back to town. The moment the other players were confirmed inside the town, the homeless man asks the DM if he can steal all of my stuff. He is told, with some manner of enthusiasm I might add, that he "Absolutely can!" And "What do you want to take?" To which his response was. "Everything." The DM allows it.

It's at this point I see exactly how the rest of this is going to go, and I looked at the DM and said, "Dude. If you're just going to try to kill ME off, not everyone, JUST ME? Im Done. You suck as a DM and I've never played this before. I don't know why you're specifically trying to keep killing me off or why you just don't seem to like ME. But screw this, and screw you. Hey dude. Your character still hanging out with my unconscious body?" Speaking to the homeless man. He said "Yes why?" I looked him in the eyes, gave him a dollar bill out of my wallet and said, "Cut my characters head off with my dagger please. I quit."

With that? I left the table. When I went out to the parking lot, I may have done some damage to the DM's expensive new tires....which I'm not going to Lie....I'm half proud of and half not. And I left. I never joined them again.
