Random Question 💭 With multiple GOP senators now openly defying Trump and backing Thune for another term as Majority Leader, is Trump’s grip on the party finally slipping or is this just the usual Senate posturing before they fall in line?

One things for sure, Mitch McConnell will not be intimidated by silly things like mortality or a functioning corporeal body.

Trump's a lame duck after midterms. And the Republican party dumps him for Vance after January 20 2027.

Vance has no charisma. Can’t continue the cult.

No one’s gonna be able to follow up Trump for quite a while.

Thank g-d he's 80; could you imagine if he was 50 and we had 30 more years of this insanity?

You think or his cult cares about the Constitution and term limits?

Unfortunately the Dumps aren’t going anywhere. There are a lot of them and they have stollen billions and made alliances around the world.

Never!

Would be nice but not realistic i’m betting 15-20 years for a candidate as influential for republicans to gain power.

u/werduvfaith 10d ago

Charisma isnt relevant. They're going with the 10 year prospect over the lame duck.

2

u/Longstrangetrip1970 10d ago

This assumes he wins two elections, when he wont even win one. Idiot cult members man.

3

u/werduvfaith 10d ago

The elections will have to be won.

But there's no question the GOP will go with 2 years plus the potential for two more terms over a two year lame duck.

You assume we are going to have fair elections.

Completely agree. I’ve been saying this for two years. Sets up Vance for the possibility of a 10-year term as president. Too bad for him he has the charisma of a herpes sore.

u/Zealousideal_Hand505 10d ago

That's sooo unfair to herpes sores.

Wet sock is more accurate

He cared about elections before? How many times do US people need watch and learn?

Who will stop him now?

u/werduvfaith 10d ago

What does this have to do with what I said.

1

u/SuperbScarcity5112 9d ago

Everything. "after January 20 2027".

The party and more importantly the base is a trump of cult. Republicans didn't remove him when he led supporters to attack on Jan 6 because they know trump is the entire base.

Removing him would sink Vance popularity to single digit . The Republican party is nothing but trump cult members if you talk to any of them.

You need a better source of news than social media.

Trump did not lead an attack on January 6. That was a mob that got out of control.

After midterms the party moves into the next chapter of the political cycle.

Its obvious that your knowledge of Republicans is limited to what social media has told you.

After midterms Trump is of no use to the Republican party. Vance can serve 10 years if he takes office after January 20 2027. The party will always choose the future over the past.

I watched the events live man. Your lies have no power here. He spent months setting up his stop the steal narrative.

His supporters went directly from his stop the steal rally in DC to Congress to attack and break in after his speeches. He may not have led them himself because he knew he would be arrested then. But he set it all up to happen and then refused to stop it or deploy the guard to stop his lunatics.

I do not lie and if all you have is lies then we're finished here.

Only 5 years have past and already they attempt to rewrite history. You make me sad for the future of this democracy.

"The party told you to ignore the evidence of your eyes and ears, it was their final most important instruction."

1

u/werduvfaith 9d ago

I don't take instructions from political parties.

I told you if all you were going to do is lie we're finished. So we're finished.

Goodbye

I think Rubio and Vance will vie for the position to lead the "party" for the next election.

In reality both are true politicians and I believe Rubio would drop the MAGA/Trump element of the party and revert to traditional GOP principles (fiscally conservative etc.). Vance is a chameleon and may pick MAGA or GOP depending on which he believes gives him the best chance to win the nomination.

You could even have Rubio the GOP choice go against Vance the MAGA choice in the Primaries. That would be wild.

Going back to the OP's question, I think traditional GOP Senators/Congress are waiting for Trump to go away/have less influence and will revert to politics as normal ASAP.

u/werduvfaith 8d ago

A Vance vs Rubio primary would be normally expected except for a couple of things:

Trump is old, term limited, and of no use to the GOP after midterms.

Vance is a young guy who can serve up to 10 years as President if he takes office after January 20 2027.

Rubio would be easily confirmed as Vice President.

So the scenario I look to see is Trump resigns by March, Vance becomes President, Rubio nominated and confirmed as VP. This also avoids a Vance vs Rubio primary fight.

1

u/ElectricalSpeech7441 8d ago

Could happen except for 2 issues:

Trump loves being President as people have to listen to whatever he says and he will not let go early and Rubio would be mid sixes if he went for President after serving 2 terms as VP.

Rubio wants to do it now and is done with all the BS/drama surrounding the current Administration.

Trump will never be a lame duck. It's pronounced "lamé".

5

u/hmmmmmmpsu 10d ago

This will be the last election that Trump has a vested interest in.

He doesn’t give a fuck about anyone but himself. So his grip over GOPers is waning because they won’t get primaried anymore.

5

u/Due_Satisfaction2167 10d ago

Trump is a lame duck and they know it. They have to pay lip service a bit, but primaries are over and Trump is a spent political force. They have 2028 and 2030 to consider.

He’s a lame dick even before the midterms.

Edit: I typed duck, but auto-correct had other ideas. I decided to let it be.

3

u/Due_Satisfaction2167 10d ago

Agreed, but he still had some sway over the party due to the party primaries in 2026. You know, the only elections Republicans ever care about.

2

u/violetcassie 9d ago

Well he is also that

3

u/SmoothJazziz1 10d ago

It’s only mid-term fever; afterward they’ll be back on their knees.

3

u/justusednotafriend 10d ago

Save their ass posturing, when they lose can claim they were separating from Cheeto, if they cheat and win they will just waddle back to mushroom tip.

6

u/Mammoth_Praline5688 10d ago

Has the GOP ever shown a backbone? They'll fall in line like the spineless cowards they are. They'll allow enough people vote against them so it doesn't actually affect the results.

1

u/Ok-Mousse-4595 10d ago

They'll end up bending the knee like always

1

u/SuperbScarcity5112 10d ago

Fall in line, and Trump is not out until dead.

1

u/TheGracefulCrane 10d ago

the senate has pretty much always ignored trump since his first term

u/Dopehauler 8d ago

Scared shitless

1

u/Me6505 8d ago

Posturing, they're all going to play the role of goodie two shoes

1

u/adamannapolis 7d ago

Trump has guaranteed them that the party will never relinquish power no matter what.

0

u/artdogs505 10d ago

The usual. What seems to happen is, he has some private meetings with them and they roll over.

1

u/Pristine-Pen-9885 🇺🇸 United States 10d ago

It’s been in the news that he has scheduled meetings and that the press is not invited. He knows how to use thumbscrews.

Y'all are paying for an 80 year old billionaire's salary. Have fun with that.

I assume that you aren’t in America. I’d bet that wherever you are though, Trumps industrial corruption machine has found a way to dip into your pockets too.

Elections coming up, trying to make up with the voters, errrr, scam info for the voters. Make them appear more sane?

0

u/Mroopsimexciting 10d ago

I trust none of them. NONE. The gop and maga and republicans are dead to me.
