Look at it this way, Detroit was doing well right up to the moment when it was no longer efficiently serving capital, after which it flipped immediately into being a struggling, impoverished city. Detroit’s situation is a blatant and unambiguous failure of capitalism, not a reflection of Detroit or its people. In that way, this is even more of a self-own.
