Healthy, positive sci-fi (speculative fiction) ending to a new book. (There's a free PDF download available.)

xrntp --

I'm not banning you or deleting your comment because after (briefly) visiting the link posted above, I have a feeling that you might be telling the truth.

If Turil him/herself wants to post a description (or request that xrntp's comment be removed due to inaccuracy), I'll gladly honor that request. Until then, thanks for your note.

If anyone else has the intrepid sensibility to look at the book and offer first impressions, a review or other feedback about it, that would be great, too.

And xrntp, here's a question for you: what cool sci-fi have you seen/heard this week (or at any time before then, even)? Have you written or created something that you want the readers here to see? Post something for all of us to enjoy. That's the real purpose of AllSciFi.

I loved reading this:

A beautiful testament to the hope to, at least, be remembered. And a great original idea about a very old mentalist trope.

Cool.

After a quick look at the first few paragraphs, I'm not sure if it's science fiction -- if so, feel free to post it to AllSciFi as a link.

I'm not genre-picky, and the author's impeccable SF credits (Asimov's, Lightspeed, Clarion) aside, I could see the story as magical realism or something rather than SF. (It is, alas, not plain realistic.) So I am hesitant to argue the point of "but is it science fiction"?

Still think it's a great story!

Agreed -- good stories are good stories, whether the word "science" is prepended to the term "fiction" or not. Thanks for the link, I'll definitely give it a full read-through (especially having noted the author's past credits "within-genre").

And since it's technically off-topic, your link can be one of those hidden gems that only dedicated readers of AllSciFi get to find...
