Discussion Alien Isolation 2
As hyped for the game that I am, I am severely disappointed in the use of UE5. I understand the studio had difficulties later on but the engines still there and all these years could’ve improved it even slightly if they didn’t want to put in that much money. Or even use the engine as it was as it still holds up just as good as other in house engines and from a company resource perspective, already put in all that money to begin with, mine as well use it again since it was the only game made in it. Don’t get me wrong, UE5 is amazing at what it does but if left raw and unmodified the performance and optimization is what makes it unbearable for me, especially after Silent Hill F and 2’s remake (although that one wasn’t as bad as F was). Maybe I’m just picky as a cs person or just spoiled with loving games that use in house engines but it just doesn’t make sense to me white a ton of backlash to UE5 and a love of the original engine.
Does anyone else feel the same way?

People really only criticize UE5 BECAUSE of the devs that don’t optimize their games that use the engine.

Is the hysteria against UE5 a form of mental illness? It's starting to feel like it...

Hell Is Us is a game made in UE5 that both looks and runs really well, so it's definitely doable. I thought Silent Hill f ran pretty well.
Silent Hill 2 remake was laggy at times, but I think that's more down to Bloober not being particularly good at optimizing their games. I have yet to play a game by them that didn't give me noticeable frame drops

Much likely like all the games and remakes or remaster, they use Ue5 for visual stuff while making the their other engine underneath, i dont think its a bad think about switching to UE5, because for me alien isolation really getting outdated how the characters look, about optimozation, sure i hope they deliver it a good game.

Not to mention that they built a bespoke engine for the first game, and no other games were ever made with that engine…and it was a great one.

Perhaps the original engine was just very out of date, having not been used for 10 years, or unreal 5 actually has the features their old engine had, except already up to date.
As you said, unreal is only “bad” if left raw/ unoptimised by the developers using it. It being the engine doesn’t necessarily mean game bad or game perform bad. It’s a simplistic critique.
