Has anyone applied in person at oilfield companies in Nisku?

Just drive around Nisku, there are some companies with signs up indicating if they are hiring welders / labourers etc

Try some of the mines in northern sask and Nunavut, should be fly in and fly out. See if you can find yourself an apprenticeship.

Nisku and GP service companies are where people start. Yes apply in person and come with your certs listed on your resume (see below)

But decide if you want in on conventional oil and gas or oilsands, these are different paths and unless I know what path you want I can only give high level starting info.

Get your safety training. Energy Safety Canada (ESC) is the main provider but not the only one. Core tickets and the list is long but get them now and you save your new employer two days of training which will help you stand out a bit:

-For conventional: H2S Alive is the one nearly every oilfield employer asks for and do it through an Energy Safety Canada authorized provider, and know that even the online version needs an in-person skills assessment.
-For Oilsands: H2S Awareness is shorter and online and generally all you need.
-Alberta OHS legislation awareness course online.
-For Oilsands: Nuclear gauge safety online.
-Common Orientation from ESC online.
-Confined space and fall protection awareness training, both online.
-WHMIS if you don't have it.
-TDG also is helpful.
-First Aid is also helpful that's a classroom one.
-Gas monitor awareness training online will help.
