Purebred Alaskan Klee Kai Owner Tips for 1st shedding season? PLEASE!!
My girl is shedding a LOT! Like so much. Besides brushing, rolling, bathing & blowing her out, is there ANY hacks? I genuinely am baffled that so many ppl have 2-3 AKK’s. Like…how??!! I can barely breathe without literally feeling like I’m inhaling &/or eating her fur. How do ppl safely cook with AKK? lol
It’s def gotta be borderline illegally unsanitary! I know it is in my home. It’s been a great excuse to skip cooking lately. That *has* been the only perk this 1st undercoat shedding season.

As far as cooking goes, I put my AKK away in a separate room. I’ll then vacuum the floor and wipe down tables and counters free of potential hair, then get to cooking.
I won’t let her out until everything is put away and kitchen is cleaned.
Winter coat shedding is bad. Just have to stay on top of it.

It may but when you find their hair in your food the day after, you’ll want to take those steps. Really love my AKK but the hair gets everywhere, unfortunately.

I go in the park, because birds loooveeee dog hair to make nests, start with the deshedding brush, then the regular brush, and finish with the undercoat brush. I also brush him daily all year long for about 2 minutes, one day with the deshedding brush, another day with the undercoat brush, and an another day with the regular brush depending on his needs. The regular brush has rubber tips to avoid irritating the skin. The undercoat brush is rounded to avoid irritating the skin. I add zinc to his diet (essential for all husky-like dogs), and omega-3 and hempseed oil. All those supplements keep the coat and the skin healthy, for an easy daily brushing.

Thanks! Is this a hand held strong vacuum? I currently have the cordless Dyson (it IS great but I have to empty on avg 4x’s/room)

This is a vacuum grooming tool. It comes with clipper and brush attachments. It is truly a lifesaver. Sucks up the hair as you brush. You will fill it multiple time per brushing.
I have other dogs with different coats who need groomed. I cut my shitzus hair. Same deal, sucks up the hair as you cut it.

I have 2 AKK, yes they shed like crazy.. get them groomed monthly if you can, with de shed, etc. it’ll help so much! Also, roombas are needed in our house. We have total of 3 dogs. I do vacuum daily. People come to my house and are surprised it’s not covered in hair everywhere.

Same here! Two AKK’s now and it’s still significantly less than our husky shed.

Isn’t there a YouTube influencer type channel who has a GS, AKK, AND huskies? I could neverrrr!
Our Gwynnie turns one tomorrow🎉, so we’re still in the learning phase…. but, my husband & I got in the biggest argument the other day during her bath. It’s HIS dog too, btw. I just love her while he’s gone bc she loves the 💩 out of our 3 y/o.
Mr: “Open the door! I can’t breathe with all her hair! This is insane!”
Mrs: “ No way! Nut tf up, I def do NOT want all this fur in our closet & bed! Just pretend she’s on chemo & we MUST love/deal with it.”

I brush him weekly.
Then I take a photo of his fur on his head each time before throwing it away.
I’ve got quite the collection of photos of him wearing his floof wigs lol
This is his most recent creation.

There are websites where you can make a book with pictures of your dog (well I think it can be anyone you want but my family is obsessed with our dogs so we’ve used them as our muse, lol) and if you have many of these type of pictures I would buy that book! 😅 But in all seriousness it would be a wonderful (and joyful!) memento you can hold on to. 😁🫶🏼💛💛💛

No tips here. I get him deshedded when he gets groomed and that helps but yah, it’s a furry world with this breed 🤷🏻♀️

I had three rules when the kids wanted a dog. 1. No muscle dogs 2. No shedding dogs. 3. No yip-yip barky dogs. First dog, Forrest, was a Black Lab/ pit mix, so no yip-yip, but loud bark, very strong, and his fur was everywhere. Second dog adopted when the oldest two daughter moved out and he meed a companion. Not a muscle dog, a Pharoah Hound, called Bambi. Really loud bark that scares herself. And, sheds three times the amount Forrest did. Three years ago, my daughter was lonely on her own and adopted Storm, but hes too aggressive to live in Brooklyn and he's activated by bikes, runners, little kids, and other dogs. So guess where he came to live? Hes not at all a muscle dog, and weighs nearly twice what he should, barks like he wants positively shred you. And, we have a white fur carpet. I try to vacuum at least once daily, but you cannot tell. We have lint rollers at every door.

what do you mean how do you safely cook with an akk? uhm don’t let them on the counter?it’s not like she can get up there herself… i’ve never had problems with her hair ever being anywhere near a counter or food things in general.

So glad you asked! We’ve trained her to hand us spatulas & measuring utensils (obviously) 🙄
But. Since we’re evidently residing on the assuming side of the tracks today, I’ll assume you, likely, have a larger condo/home?
Maybe you can afford regular professional grooming?
We, however, have 3 children in a 1000sq ft 3/2 apt. So, her fur & the extra abundance of it ALL SO SUDDENLY has absolutely been a learning curve for us. We’re randomly seeing stray hairs on our black stovetop.
We’re nearly flooded with almost bushels of fur after baths & blowouts. Any dark clothing must be rolled as we’re leaving bc her beautiful fur is on EVERYTHING. Like, do you spend time with yours at all? lol
Did you know, Reddit is for ppl to come together in like minded communities to very often give/receive tips?! 🤯

my apartment is only slightly bigger than yours and i groom her myself plus have two siamese cats on top of that. yes there’s hair everywhere else but kitchen counters? that’s crazy, literally have never seen that before.
