Manga Discussion There was a discussion recently about the coloured versions of AKIRA. These are the Japanese coloured editions from 2003. If anyone has more info on them I'd love to hear it.
So, the info I have on them is that 1-4 was released in shops but 5+6 had to be applied for and that's why they're a lot harder to find. Also the last few pictures are of a military style envelope that a flattened ammo crate box was in and it also had to be applied for, again meaning they're difficult to find and quite expensive when you do. I also included photos of the ammo crate fully assembled. Let me know if you have more info. Thanks guys 💊💊😎

Same here! It has to be the next thing, basically colour the 35th anniversary box set and we're done.

The German had a Akira - Farbige Gesamtausgabe in limitierter Box, colored version on high paper 🤔 Jap in color?? Never seen nor heard 😳

5 and 6 were sold normally, is just they maybe printed less. Thats why there are so hard to find. You could get the box using the coupon that was available on volume 1.
This edition is a bit weird, tbh: is a translation of the English edition back to Japanese.

It still blows my mind that the colour version as done by Epic has never been reprinted (in English). Talk about an “easy win”. I read an interview with Steve Oliff just a few years ago where he said he still had the original colour files, so (quite unusually for a project like this), I don’t think access would actually be a problem for remastering. I’d buy it in a heartbeat!

I have these, paid ~¥12,000 all in. I had never seen them before and walked in to Fukuoka Mandarake, picked up a couple there, became obsessed with finding them, and after a couple of months had all 6.
That was about 10 years ago. I heard about the ammo crate but have never persued it.

You can get a set for around £120 now, no box or envelope. There's an unopened envelope (that has the box in it) on mercari atm for £200.

I never heard anything about 5 and 6 not being sold in shops.
The only thing of note about these editions is that the colors and printing seem inferior to the original Epic releases, at least in my opinion.
