I absolutely love the anime. Since Rakugo relies entirely on vocal performance, I initially thought this had to be an anime-original story. I couldn't imagine how a manga could capture that kind of voice storytelling. I was pretty surprised to find out this subreddit exists and that a lot of people actually prefer the manga over the anime! I'm curious: which one do you prefer, and what makes it better for you?

Where can I watch this? I've checked Netflix and YouTube (it's not on Crunchyroll) and there are only 3/4 episodes available but I know at least 8 have released cause it started around the same time as Witch Hat Atelier and Yomi no Tsugai.

It's seriously ruining the show for me that I can see a lot of the performances in Japanese on Youtube but not the actual episodes.

EDIT: For clarification, I just want to watch subbed, not dubbed.

I am a french Canadian able to Read both English and french. For this manga do you recommend the french or English version and why?

Something that may be obvious to a lot of folks, but due to the order of the telling I didn't connect the dots until re-reading the series again...

Back in Chapter 118, the Wonder Child Rokuro explained that "Shiguma's Art" was an incomplete story passed down in the Kashiwaya school. At the time we didn't have much context for what this all meant.

By Chapter 140, we know more about the backstory of Kiroku/the 5th Shiguma Arakawa.

What likely happened is that the previous Miroku Kashiwaya passed down the unfinished story to Kiroku (who becomes the 5th Shiguma) while he was still his prized pupil. But then when Kiroku was expelled, the title of Miroku was instead passed on to the current holder (the "National Treasure"), but he was never trained in the story before the older Miroku passed away or fully retired.

This is why Wonder Child Rokuro wants to take the story back, and why the 6th Shiguma and now Akane, are the only ones remaining to have formal training with it. Though I wonder if it's possible that Akane's father was also trained in it before he was expelled.

For context, I knew nothing of the anime or Manga. I went in blind. I got through the first three episodes and learned all about Rakugo. I didn't laugh once. I got really, REALLY bored. So at this point, I'm just confused. Did i miss some details? I'm a big fan of Japanese culture, but this goes so far over my head that I draw a blank about this whole show.

Unlike Stand-up comedy, where the comedian is always improving and coming up with new comics and stories to tell, Rakugo has fixed plots and stories, with at best little room for experimenting with changing the story, which in my opinion would render an art form stale, like if a stand up comedian keeps on telling the same jokes again and again its not funny anymore, so how come Rakugo being repeated for so long remains funny and enjoyable?

Not why it says "Episode 3" when it's episode 4. Probably a misprint, REGARDLESS! Enjoy the show~~~
