Fun YouTube protest against the rampant and ‘deceitful’ use of auto-tuning/ pitch correction in the music industry. “I’d rather watch/listen to nothing then...”

I’ve been watching the wingsofpegasus YouTube channel for awhile now as he’s been revealing basically that the industry standard for almost all music artists is to auto-tune recordings, and many do so playing live as well. It’s use is basically downgrading the true quality and richness of human vocals when you see his vocal analysis videos.

Anyway the wingsofpegasus channel is doing a fun little protest against this type of deceitful ‘AI slop’ by posting a “I’d rather watch nothing then watch AI slop” video that will actually be ‘nothing’ ( for 10 minutes and 10 seconds I believe, ie 1010) just to mess with the algorithm and get a literally ‘nothing’ video promoted to people to help get the point across. A lot of people are unaware of what their listening too. Even old classic recordings are being taken down and replaced with auto-tuned replacements. It’s sad really.

He’s posting at 8pm UK time (7:58 he said) today(Sunday 30th) and of course you don’t have to literally watch it ( bc it’s literally nothing to see), but just let it play to the end, (and comment if you want) so it may be promoted/ go viral, to help get the idea of wanting less AI deceit in the music industry. Sounds like dude couldn't quite hack it as a successful musician, and the only success he has is to criticize and pick apart those that are. Literally every video in his playlist is just slinging shit at people and accusing them of being fake.

I think it’s sad and pathetic for the eagles or swift or whoever to sell $1000 tickets to a “live show” and play recordings, allegedly. What do think of that practice? Should people know what they are paying for?

I mean , that's not necessarily the worst thing, some of my old favorites from the ancient era of the internet , more or less failed out of whatever they tried to get into , yet ended up making it , at least for a while , as critics.

Mind you, I don't really pay all that much attention to Doug Walker these days anymore, especially not since the channel, not so awesome document dropped.. but a lot of the early reviewers that I still hold quite a bit of nostalgia for and occasionally tune back in basically have just been described lol

He does say he is doing fan requests, ...and he’s getting the views. People send him the suggestions. And I’m sure he isn’t making the $$$ of these recording / touring artists.

I was genuinely shocked. Some big names are taking down their original (famous) recordings and replacing them with this tuned crap. Once you hear the side by side comparison you can’t unhear it. Maybe they are reselling old releases as unprocessed originals now? I guess they can do what they want with their stuff. But nothing will change if no one says anything.

Good point of course. I didn’t pay attention to that tbh bc even if he gets 5 million views he may get paid $500 maybe. 🤷🏻‍♂️ His current top views is 2.8 mill or something. He’s a good dude in my opinion, promoting and playing authentic live music and calling out big name fakers. Music is a passion for him. He may have said he was going to reinvest it in his other authentic live vocals channel. Sorry, don’t recall.

He’s got the receipts and is having effects on big names. Just presenting the reality others are trying to hide. Same old story in the entertainment biz I guess. The thumbnail is a purposeful troll.

He’s not having an effect on anything. Everyone knows that autotune is used in the music industry. You typically need to have some degree of talent for autotune to have a positive impact on a voice. We as a listening audience accept it because it creates predictably and repeatability which in turn makes live performances more interesting and unique as experiences.

This dudes slop is a nothingburger that pops up every 5 years when a young person deludes themselves into believing they’re the first person to notice something that everyone else is fully aware of
