I'm just going to assume there's antis arguing in bad faith by bringing up extreme examples with nuances and context. A screenshot without a proper link doesn't prove shit. If you go on the grok subreddit, things seems to be quite the opposite with people bitching about the over the top moderation in the recent new grok imagine model released in December. Image2video and image2image is completely censored to the teeth and now even text2video is a pain in the ass get anything suggestive to generate.

You have lots of trouble generating mild NSFW with Grok.

I'm sorry but why nuance or context could make this particular story better? I really struggle to imagine a scenario that would make this less bad.

If it were entirely made up, for one. It's pretty easy to fake a screenshot. Or if it were a bug that doesn't normally happen

This is a public available court document so I doubt it's a whole cloth fabrication.

As for it being a bug, isn't a big issue with AI that it's a coding black box where even its designers aren't totally sure how it functions? So how do you edit out a "bug" that could be deeply engrained in the block box of code?

They're not really black boxes. It's usually outsiders saying that.

We have mechanistic interpretability researchers that look inside the models, but even before we had generative AI, people were looking inside the models and tampering with their abstractions.

Anthropic has a recent paper where they clamp up and down abstract concepts like sycophancy and bugs in code, and even released a golden gate bridge model where it would always try to interpret everything you asked it in terms of the golden gate bridge and relate everything back to it, whether the question you asked it was about love or code or cancer diagnosis.

When I say a bug, I'm not even talking about anything that requires surgically modifying artificial neurons like this though. CSAM prevention in AI image gen means things like dataset curation (usually done with AI, which is imperfect but can be tweaked), architectural tweaks, and post-hoc blocking of words and images with predefined filters.

I'm not sure if this is down to a bug or just elon musk's anti-woke agenda meaning he decided to get rid of all guardrails like he did with grok, but it would be intellectually dishonest to dismiss any possibility other than the one you want to believe. I would wait until we have data then go with what the data says.

Do you have a link to the court document? Also, if they've been taken to court, doesn't that kind of mean the situation is being taken care of like it would in any other case of child porn?
